Barack Obama Was AGAINST a 90 Day Forclosure Moratorium BEFORE He Was For It

    barack Obama october 13 2008

Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) speaks at a campaign event in Toledo, Ohio, October 13, 2008

Barack Obama was pandering his way across Ohio today in a speech that included a proposal for a 90 day moratorium on foreclosures. But, when Obama was running against Hillary Clinton Obama opposed it.

Clinton’s solution is a 90-day moratorium for foreclosures on sub-prime occupied homes, and a five-year rate freeze on sub-prime adjustable rate mortgages. The Bush administration has already responded with a 30-day cooling period on foreclosures; Clinton and her aides insist a longer freeze is essential for stabilizing a precarious situation for homeowners.

But according to some economists and officials grappling with the crisis, her proposal, which also offers a $30-billion foreclosure fund that is triple the size of Obama’s, might only prolong the agony for homeowners.

“A 90-day freeze is fine for what it is, but what happens on the 91st day?” Rokakis asked. “Why not a year? Or longer?”

In San Antonio on Tuesday, Obama said that Clinton’s foreclosure freeze was potentially “disastrous,” rewarding “people who made this problem worse” by benefiting banks that profit from high mortgage rates.

A “blanket freeze,” Obama added, might “drive rates through the roof for those trying to buy or refinance. Experts say the value of homes will fall even more, and even more families could face foreclosure.”

Michelle Malkin has more of the poop.

Obama’s economic proposals today are nothing but pandering to different Democrat Party constituencies, most notably the labor unions. Now, has he said anything about across the board tax cuts or payroll tax cuts?

    No…..

But, under Obama’s proposal you can borrow against your retirement savings (401k) without penalty. Wow! That is such a great idea – screw yourself when you get older and cannot work to pay for the folks not working now.

    Huh?

John McCain will come out with his PANDER economic plan tomorrow.

    Update:

Geraghty asks why stop at 90 days?

When does Flap get his free house as a part of the bailout?

    Update #2:

Speaking about Obama’s economic proposals, here is an analysis from the Wall Street Journal on his 95% illusion/solution. Look at the graph on marginal rates:

    Obama's tax proposals

There won’t be too much incentive to work any harder with those marginal rates when more than 40 per cent of your increasing income is going to the government. Wasn’t this one of the reasons Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980?

The government will pay your mortgage if you cannot pay but if you and your spouse works and make a good income they will confiscate almost half of that unabashedly.

    Wonderful……..

Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt Are You Listening? Reprise

    nowornever

Flap is NOT reassured with Steve Schmidt’s comments today.

John McCain’s chief strategist Steve Schmidt said Monday that the campaign is “well within striking distance” of Barack Obama.

“We are running in a very difficult political environment, that’s not a secret to anybody that’s out there,” Schmidt said during an interview on National Public Radio. “I believe in this race we are approximately six points behind. There’s a lot of the media right now that is writing Senator McCain off for the third or fourth time this year. That means we have ‘em just where we want ‘em in this race.”

“We have an ability to close that distance in the final weeks of the campaign and we’ll be working hard to do that,” Schmidt added. “We feel good about the possibilities of winning the race.”

Schmidt blamed the financial crisis for the campaign’s current state, pointing out that before the crisis McCain was running ahead of Obama.

“We understand that the day of the beginning of the financial crisis we were ahead in this race. With the financial crisis we have fallen slightly behind in the race and we have some ground to make up,” Schmidt said.

It has been the economy for over three weeks now and Team McCain continues to struggle with a coherent message while Obama really has said nothing.

The ONLY historical note that is optimistic for the McCain-Palin ticket is that Obama has had trouble closing out
his campaign against Hillary Clinton. In fact, he LIMPED into the nomination.

So, Steve, get Mac on a consistent, coherent economic message – and run with it.

You are running out of time – IT IS NOW OR NEVER.

    Update:

    This doesn’t help.

Say Good Bye To Democrat Representative Tim Mahoney

    MarkFoley

Republican Representative Mark Foley, whose lewd internet messages to teenage boys and Congressional pages created a national outrage

Remember Florida GOP Representative Mark Foley?

Now, his HYPOCRITE Democrat Congressional successor is  embroiled in his own sex scandal albeit a non-homosexual one.

West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL), whose predecessor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement, which involved Mahoney and his campaign committee.

Mahoney, who is married, also promised the woman, Patricia Allen, a $50,000 a year job for two years at the agency that handles his campaign advertising, the staffers said.

A Mahoney spokesperson would not answer questions about the alleged affair or the settlement, but said Allen resigned of her own accord and “has not received any special payment from campaign funds.”

Senior Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), the chair of the Democratic Caucus, have been working with Mahoney to keep the matter from hurting his re-election campaign, the Mahoney staffers said.

Say good bye to Rep. Mahoney

Listen to Mahoney firing his mistress:

A conversation between Tim Mahoney and Patricia Allen terminating her.

“If you do the job that I think you should do, you get to keep your job. Whenever I don’t feel like you’re doing your job, then you lose your job,” Mahoney can be heard telling Allen.

“And guess what? The only person that matters is guess who? Me. You understand that. That is how life really is. That is how it works,” Mahoney says on the call.

“You’re fired,” Mahoney tells her. “Do you hear me? Don’t tell me whether it’s correct or not.”

Allen says, “Tell me why else I’m fired.”

“There is no why else,” Mahoney responds.

Later, Allen says, “You’re firing me for other reasons. You don’t, you’re not man enough to say it. So why don’t you say it.”

Well, looks like the GOP will regain this seat.

    Ta Da…….

John McCain Continues to Throw in the White Towel of Surrender

This video is from the other day when John McCain first decided to throw in the white towel and give up the Presidential race. After listening to his speech at Virginia Beach just now, Flap doesn’t believe McCain has the “fire in the belly” to win this race.

A same really because after portraying Barack Obama as a “celebrity” and a good GOP convention, Mac has let the economy sink him. McCain had the opportunity to lead and he has fumbled the ball.

Video: Sarah Palin Booed at Hockey Puck Drop in Philly

    Sarah Palin Flyers Hockey game

US Republican vice presidential nominee, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (center R), is joined by hockey mom Cathy O’Connell (center L), New York Rangers assistant captain Scott Gomez (L) and Philadelphia Flyers captain Mike Richards (R) before dropping the ceremonial first puck at the start of the Rangers versus the Flyers NHL ice hockey game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 11, 2008

The LEFT is yukking it up that Sarah Palin was booed last Saturday night at the Philadelphia Flyers hockey game.

    But, REALLY so what.

    Here is the video:

Flap is positive that Sarah Palin and Team McCain knew Palin was entering the “LIONS DEN” but Palin went anyway. Everyone knows that the Philly fans are about as classless as they come – I mean they have even booed Santa Claus.

She was invited by the owner of the Philadelphia Flyers who is a big GOP donor and she did not hesitate. Wouldn’t it been worse if she had demurred?

After all, when you are meeting with the world leaders and some ruthless ones at that, would the Vice President be deterred by the off chance of hostile demonstrations?

    Nope

But, generally politics and sporting events do not mix.

Tony Strickland Vs Hannah-Beth Jackson – A Fight for the Middle?

    tonys5

Republican California State Senate candidate and former California Assemblyman Tony Strickland waving to early morning commuters in Camraillo, California, August 13, 2008

The Los Angeles Times has a piece up this morning about the Tony Strickland – Hannah-Beth Jackson race. The premise is that both are attempting to attrack moderate voters to win California’s 19th State Senate District.

But as they face off for the 19th state Senate District seat covering much of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and Santa Clarita in Los Angeles County, both candidates are moving to the center in a bid to win over the crucial block of moderate voters who will probably decide the election.

With no incumbent and voter registration split nearly equally between Republicans and Democrats, big money and attention is pouring into the race. Republicans don’t want to lose the seat held by termed-out Republican Sen. Tom McClintock, and Democrats badly want a win to move the party closer to a two-thirds supermajority needed to pass budget and tax measures, analysts say.

“It’s the hottest race on the Senate side,” said Allan Hoffenblum, editor of the nonpartisan California Target Book. “It’s a centrist district that leans Republican, but it’s anything but a safe seat.”

The 19th district has changed over the past four years with fewer GOP registered voters but the Republicans continue to hold a slight registration edge. This spells an uphill climb for Jackson who is a left-wing partisan from renowned liberal and Democrat dominated Santa Barbara.

Tony Strickland MUST turn out all of his GOP base and a few other voters and he wins. In the closing days of the Presidential race, should McCain precipitously decline in the polls, he must work his GOTV to make sure Republicans vote. However, Proposition 8, the Gay Marriage proposition, will likely motivate many Evangelical, conservative Catholic and Mormon voters to the voting booth. This will help Strickland.

Now, it is all about turnout and how the campaigns work the phones, walk the precincts and get out the vote, including absentee ballots. Whoever has the better political organization wins.

    Stay tuned……
