    • One question remains: Will a President Obama, with his party in absolute control of both Houses, revert to the politics and policies of the left that brought him the nomination, or resist his ex-comrades' demands that he seize the hour and impose the agenda ACORN, Ayers, Jesse and Wright have long dreamed of?

Whichever way he decides, he will be at war with them, or with us.

    • Peggy Noonan has become an effete New York snob. Her only good book was written almost 20 years ago.
The old lady just needs to go away from the conservative movement – just like WFB's son.
And, the WSJ needs to get a new columnist.
    • Like her thanks-but-no-thanks for that bridge to nowhere, Gov. Sarah Palin’s much-hyped appearance on “Saturday Night Live” tomorrow night may turn out to be somewhat less than advertised.

The Republican vice-presidential candidate, who has been unmercilessly mocked by SNL alum Tina Fey over the past month, told the press on Friday that she was appearing on the show this weekend, but she had yet to see any pages of the script. NBC wouldn’t even confirm that she would be on the show.

Usually, guests on “Saturday Night Live” participate in script discussions throughout the week prior to their appearance, and also take part in run-throughs or rehearsal prior to Friday night.

“We’re not talking,” said a spokesman for SNL late Friday afternoon when asked for any details about Palin’s possible participation on the program.

Sorry but NBC and SNL are so far in the tank for Obama that their programming is avoided by Flap.

    • A lot of the state polls look pretty bad for McCain lately, but there's been an interesting shift in the tracking polls.

      * Rasmussen’s Presidential Tracking poll now shows Barack Obama leading John McCain by four points, 50 percent to 46 percent. At one point, Obama was up by 8.
      * Gallup’s national tracking poll of likely voters has Obama leading McCain by two points, 49 percent to 47 percent.
      * AP/Yahoo shows Obama leading McCain by two points, 44%-42%
      * The Reuters/C-Span/Zogby national tracking survey shows Obama leading McCain by five points, 49%-44%.
      * The GW/Battleground tracking poll has Obama leading McCain by four points, 49%-45%.

The other thing is, in most of these, if there's been movement, Obama's been pretty consistent – right around, or just under, 50 percent. McCain's gains have come from undecideds.

Let's see if Obama can manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

    • Barack Obama’s lucky number is 95. As in 95 percent of working people will get a tax cut in an Obama administration. He trots the figure out every time he’s portrayed as an old-school tax-and-spender. He’s mentioned this factoid 10 times in the three presidential debates, brandishing it as a token of his concern for the economic struggles of the middle class.

    • Barack Obama headed onto Republican turf Friday bidding to seal the deal with voters 18 days from election day while warning Democrats not to forget their ability to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory."

The Illinois senator was en route to Virginia, which has not voted for a Democratic White House hopeful since 1964 but is now very much in play as Republican John McCain struggles to shore up his own support for November 4.

But while he is flush with cash and poll readings that hint at an election wipeout, Obama issued a clarion call against complacency following a fundraising concert here late Thursday with Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel.

"Don't underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory," he said, only half in jest. "Don't underestimate our ability to screw it up."

    • Though we doubt most Americans realize it, this would be one of the most profound political and ideological shifts in U.S. history. Liberals would dominate the entire government in a way they haven't since 1965, or 1933. In other words, the election would mark the restoration of the activist government that fell out of public favor in the 1970s. If the U.S. really is entering a period of unchecked left-wing ascendancy, Americans at least ought to understand what they will be getting, especially with the media cheering it all on.
    • When Barack Obama responded to the Ohio plumber who didn't want his taxes raised by saying that he wanted to "spread the wealth around," I wanted to tell the Illinois senator to spread his own wealth around.

Senator Obama, in a rare moment of candor, all but told "Joe the plumber" that his wealth should be seized in the name of equity. Their personal encounter this past Sunday played out one of the old themes of democratic politics: the appeal to the many to take from the few. It's traditionally an easy sell in democratic regimes.

Despite Obama's implication to the contrary, however, it doesn't represent much in the way of change.
