Yes On California Proposition 8 Blogger Conference Call – Status of the Race

Flap just got off a telephone blogger conference call with ProtectMarriage.com – Yes on 8 campaign manager Frank Schubert.

Status of the race:

Polling indicates the race has a 97 % awareness level among California voters. When these voters are asked how they will vote it is:

  • 44 % – Yes
  • 44 % – No

When you read the voters the ballot label language the result is:

  • 48 % – Yes
  • 48 % No

So, the race is DEAD EVEN on both ways of counting which is a good position the Yes campaign feels to be in.

Frank Schubert:”If we are tied on Monday night then Yes on 8 will win by 4-8 points.”

Why?

For a couple of reasons:

  1. The history of polling on this issue suggests there is a percentage of people who do not accurately report they support traditional marriage. They do not want to say something that may be perceived as not politically correct. Historically, that polling percentage has averaged about 7 % if you look at all of the states where marriage has been on the ballot. “I don’t think it will be 7 per cent this time, more like 4 or 5 per cent bump that we will get…”
  2. Another reason why if Yes is tied or behind by a couple of points on Monday night is the ground operation that the Yes on 8 campaign has. We have a truly Presidential GOTV operation (Get Out The Vote). There are over 100,000 people who have committed to walk door to door to distribute targeted literature and doorknob hangers throughout the weekend and Monday and on Monday we will have as many as 5 people per precinct working to get the vote out – both going door to door or phoning voters who either have not voted or will be voting. This is a GOTV effort that has never been done in California before for a proposition.

Oh Yeah on Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell within fifteen minutes of the challenge offered up to debate the gay marriage issue, he delined. Shocker, isn’t it?

And, for the San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom fans, Newsom will make a repeat performance this weekend on television for the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign.

    It’s not about forcing something down someone’s throats. That’s the gay agenda. 61% of California voters said whatever you call it, it’s not marriage. You can have the same legal rights, it’s just not marriage. Now that the Supreme Court inexplicably said sexual orientation deserves special class treatment, they threw out the law. An alternative definition of marriage has been forced down the throats of millions of CA voters by an overactive judiciary. Prop 8 changes it back.

    lots of people talk about the rights that will be denied homosexual couples if this doesn’t pass. this is a misinformed argument.

    to prop8discussion regarding your “children have a right to a mom and a dad week.” what about a child just having two people who care, love & provide for them in all aspects of life. there are plenty of children who have a mom & a dad & they have a horrible childhood due to a plethora of reasons: physical, mental or emotional abuse, but at least they have a MOM & A DAD, right? come on – so ridiculous. Isn’t Prop 8 just another way to force your views & values onto someone else. How does a gay couple who are in love, getting married, have ANYTHING to do with you? How does it TRULY affect your life in any way? Again, it’s just a way to discriminate & FORCE your ideals onto others.

    Your right Joel… Its all about Hate, Discrimination, and a Fear of change. Children will learn about Gay marriage either way, one way it will be shunned and one will be an open and positive influence to avoid those children of growing up with the same hate this generation did.

    I am just wondering about the status on prop 8, if it has passed? For my opinion, which I try to make my opinions based on the bible perspective, main reason that i vote yes on prop 8 is of course what pbj says that whatever you want to call it, its not marriage, marriage is a man and woman together as one, God has stated many times in the bible. The bible does say something about homosexual: 1 corinthians 6:9-10 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God (NLT version). Now of course thats why I would like to say this, an open invitation to who want to repent (turn away and follow jesus christ), why…. john 3:16. how do you do this, well simple, pray a prayer, what to say in this prayer, well you can go to many sites to pray that prayer and i recommend especially after you pray that prayer, http://www.harvest.org, also http://www.24hourprayer.com/saved.html, so… sorry for the long post, but had to say it. again, what is the status on prop 8?

    Why does it always have to come down to a HATE or DISCRIMINATION issue? This business of “forcing” ideals is ludicrous. The reality is both sides can argue that the one is attempting force their agenda on the other. That is the way it works with opinion. Simply standing firm on something one believes in doesn’t make them a HATER or DISCRIMINATOR. If you can’t stand firm for what you believe in and voice the reasons for your position without demeaning those that disagree, you probably don’t have much of a platform to stand on in the first place.

    Hello, i also want to know the status of prop 8, i have voted yes to pass 8 for one main reason which pbj sorta states, marriage was made for man and woman, one main statement is said in eph. 5:23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of his body, the church; he gave his life to be her Savior. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives must submit to your husbands in everything. also in 1 corinthians 7:1-2 NLT It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. As stated in the bible, god does not say anything that a man should be with a man or woman should be with a woman or else he would have stated in, instead it goes to say this in 1 corinthians 6:9-10 NLT Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God?     so, it looks like californians finally had EQUAL RIGHTS and an opportunity to VOTE about same-sex marriage. over 5 million californians compared to 4 judges from the (s.f.) supreme court — FINALLY: of the people, by the people, for the people! now that’s the power of voting!

    If it is a civil rights issue, we should allow incest and polygamy as well, right? What if 2 brothers want to marry? Where so we draw the line? I agree with civil Unions, not gay marriage.

    It depends on if the issue is gender discrimination, or sexual preference discrimination.

    The latter would be relevant to the issue of polygamy.

    This is not a civil rights issue. Choosing a lifestyle of homosexuality should not altar the law to benifit those who choose that life. If I choose to succomb to strong passions that cause me to harm my neighbor and thereby violate the law I am a criminal. Therefore the law is made to penalize and deter criminal behavior such as, murder, theft, oppression of people because of skin color, an issue (skin color) to which they are powerless to change. Strong sexual desire for someone of the same sex does not nullify the overwhelming evidence that God created you as a man or a woman. Sexuality is a choice to use the body as one sees fit. Homosexuality is a revolt against God and not the law of the land. It is a denial in the face of overwhelming evidence that you are created male or female, to deny the natural use of your body for what is unnatural. Choosing to use science to manipulate the hormones to be what you obviously were not created to be is denying Gods natural law. Even if you get your way with the law of the land the truth remains the same, you will continue in self deception and confusion harming yourself. The real freedom from the darkness of deception is found in embracing the reality that we are all sinners who desperately need God’s salvation in Christ.
