Tony Strickland Extends Vote Lead in California State Senate Race

    strickland-and-jackson

Former California Assembly Members Tony Strickland and Hannah-Beth Jackson and candidates for California State Senate District 19

Ventura and Santa Barbara County Election Divisions updated their totals today for the California State Senate District 19. Los Angeles County did not report an update today.

According to Flap’s math Republican Tony Strickland has extended his lead to 1,560 votes versus 540 votes yesterday.

    The raw figures:

Santa Barbara County (as of 4:32 PM today):

    • Hannah-Beth Jackson: 69,829
    • Tony Strickland: 56,522

Ventura County (as of 1:46 PM today):

    • Hannah-Beth Jackson: 104,920
    • Tony Strickland: 115,753

Los Angeles County (as of 4:49 PM yesterday)

    • Hannah-Beth Jackson: 11,322
    • Tony Strickland: 15,356

The Ventura County Star reports that Ventura County elections this afternoon added another 14,394 ballots to the results of last week’s election.

Ventura County has now counted 294,736 ballots, or about 88 percent of the those cast. The remaining 41,000 or so are absentee ballots that were handed in at the last minute, or provisional ballots, cast by voters whose registration status couldn’t be clearly determined on Election Day.

Because election officials don’t know where the uncounted ballots were cast, it’s impossible to know just how many votes are left up for grabs in each race. The county plans to release more results on Friday, but the final tally won’t be known until next week at the earliest.

Flap would rather be ahead by 1,500 votes than behind if this is any solace to Tony Strickland.

Stay tuned as Flap has absolutely no idea where the ballots are coming from or when the remaining ballots (late absentee and provisional) will be finally counted.

But, Flap will update as information becomes available.

Frank Luntz to John McCain – GO AWAY OLD MAN

    ramireztoon110608

    Political Cartoon by Michael Ramirez

GOP pollster and pundit Frank Luntz had a few choice observations/comments at today’s Republican Governor confab in Miami.

    • Noting that Obama has an email list of 10 million voters, Luntz said that coalition “makes him and his supporters the most powerful special interest group in all of America.”
    • “He’s got 10 million names and our candidate doesn’t know how to use this,” Luntz continues, holding up his BlackBerry in the air.  “There is a problem there.”
    • “Stevie Wonder reads a teleprompter better than John McCain,” Luntz cracked drawing laughs.

John McCain was too old to be elected President. America had grown tired of Bush and angry old white men.

McLame should never have been the Republican nominee.

Flap said this over and over during the primary season.

McCain admitted did not know how to use e-mail while Barack Obama and the Democrats were raising tens of millions on the internet. He was out of touch and held back Sarah Palin who was more relevant.

John McCain knew little if anything about financial matters and the economy and it showed while America plunged into crisis. McCain has never run anything except his “MAVERICK” mouth in the Senate cloak room.

So, while we laugh at Frank Luntz’s quips – we know he is RIGHT.

Representative William Jefferson Watch: Federal Appeals Court Paves the Way for Bribery Trial

    william jefferson on election night

Democrat Congressman William Jefferson and his wife, Dr. Andrea Green-Jefferson, right, acknowledge the crowd at his election night party after Jefferson beat runoff opponent Helena Moreno for the 2nd Congressional District seat he has held for nine terms in New Orleans, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008

Looks like Congressman Jefferson is finally going to receive his day in court on the 16 count federal indictment.

A federal appeals court has upheld bribery charges against U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, clearing the way for a trial.

The Louisiana Democrat sought to dismiss the indictment, claiming that his constitutional rights were violated when the grand jury received evidence that violated legislative immunity.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday rejected Jefferson’s claims, ruling that prosecutors can pursue the case without making reference to constitutionally protected material.

A lower court judge previously refused to dismiss the indictment, saying Jefferson was trying to apply immunity so broadly that it would make it virtually impossible to ever charge a congressman with a crime.

    Remember the flap?

Elton John Criticizes California Proposition 8 for Focusing on Marriage

    elton john and partner

“I don’t want to be married. I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership,” said Elton John, who cemented his relationship with David Furnish in 2005. “The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. ”

Singer, composer, entertainer, gay rights/AIDS activist, Elton John has criticized California’s Proposition 8 which reinstated California’s traditional definition of marriage last week.

In December 2005, John and Furnish tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England. But, clarified the singer, “We’re not married. Let’s get that right. We have a civil partnership. What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage.”

John and Furnish, and their two cocker spaniels Marilyn and Arthur, were in town for Monday’s annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“I don’t want to be married. I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership,” said John. “The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.”

Isn’t this the same argument that the YES on 8 supporters were arguing?

Here is a pre-election video that says the same thing:

    Proposition 8 Made Simple

But, Elton John is NOT the only gay activist who is criticizing gay leaders for emphasizing marriage versus expanding gay rights in other areas.

Longtime gay rights advocate Dean Trantalis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and others on the conference call expressed concern that the gay rights movement had become too focused on marriage, and is now paying the price in other more critical areas. “Marriage was never our issue,” Trantalis said. “It was thrust upon us by the other side, and they’ve done a very good job of beating us up over it.”

In the meantime, California Proposition 8 opponents continue street demonstrations and protests directed at churches which supported the traditional definition of marriage.

Winning hearts and minds for homosexuals and their lifestyle?

    Not so much.

Tom McClintock Continues to Lead in California Congressional District 4

    Tom McClintock Election Night 2008

California State Senator Tom McClintock, R- Thousand Oaks and wife, Lori on election night

Tom McClintock continues to lead Democrat Charlie Brown in northern California’s 4th Congressional District.

As of late afternoon (yesteerday, Tuesday) there have been no changes in the reported count – we are still ahead by 1,092 votes, or 0.34 percent out of 313,384 votes counted.

We expect the bulk of Nevada County’s votes to be reported tomorrow, where we could lose as many as 1,500 votes.  Nevertheless, we are seeing better performance with the late absentees than we saw on election night in every county – including Nevada – and if that keeps up, our numbers should bounce back fairly rapidly.  Based on the precincts yet to be counted, chances are very good that our lead should start widening from our low point when Nevada comes in.  If we stay out of negative territory with that vote, victory should be within sight.

    Stay tuned……

Sarah Palin for Alaska United States Senate?

Alaksa Governor Sarah Palin on The Today Show, November 12, 2008

So, should Sarah Palin run for the United States Senate should incumbent convicted felon U.S. Senator Ted Stevens be re-elected and the Senate then expels him in January?

    The answer is YES.

Palin would have to run in a special election within 60-90 days of the vacancy as per Alaska law. She would undoubtedly be opposed by Democrat Mark Begich who Ted Stevens will have beaten – even after a federal felony conviction.

Flap says is Palin has a “FREE RIDE” then she should go for it. She would be a STAR in the Senate and would be set for life in a Senate seat that rarely changes occupants.

And, she would establish herself as the leader of the GOP from Washington, D.C..

Why the RIGHT Calls John McCain – McLAME

Senator John McCain on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno November 12, 2008 – Part 1

The election is not one week over and John McCain, “THE MAVERICK” is already selling out and NOT SUPPORTING his Vice Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin from the vicious rumors from his former campaign aides. Remember the NAKED AIRHEAD SHOPAHOLIC?

    McLame is the name.

Let’s look at the transcript and then some more video of the LAME Senator from Arizona.

Senator John McCain: She understands all the energy issues. There’s a $40 billion pipeline coming to bring natural gas to places like California. And so look, she’s a marvelous person.

Jay Leno: Now, these aides that were criticizing her — and I think everyone agrees there were Republican aides who were criticizing her. I know you wouldn’t go for that. I know you’re an old soul. You don’t let people talk — but why?

Senator John McCain: One — these things happen in campaigns too. I think I have at least a thousand, quote, top advisors. “A top advisor said” — people I’ve never even heard of, much less a, quote, top advisor or a high-ranking Republican official. It’s — these things go on in campaigns, and you 6 just –

Jay Leno: Why don’t we just move on.

Senator John McCain: I’m just very proud to have had Sarah Palin and her family, a wonderful family.

Here is part two of the video of Senator McLame and Jay Leno:

Hell of a job of kissing your own ass, Senator McLame and leaving Sarah Palin to twist in the wind. But, what does the RIGHT expect? McLame have never been supportive of anyone but his own damn ass.

Isn’t it revealing that McCain would not name names in the leaks. Nicolle Wallace and Rick Davis have already been on television attempting to save their own reputations and who has been conspicuous by his absence?

McLame’s good friend advisors Mark Salter and Steve Schmidt.

Now, Sarah Palin will come out fine in this flap and McCain will return to the Senate where Flap will cringe for the next two years every time he opens his fraking mouth – at least until he retires.

A GOP loss is a GOP loss and McLame presided.

Now, you know why Flap endorsed Rudy Giuliani in the GOP primary elections.

    Day By Day 111208

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The MSM love affair of “The One” continues and it is especially nauseating on NBC local and national news. Even, Mrs. Flap who is apolitical asked Flap to turn off the Today Show – too political anymore.

Biased coverage is so pervasive in television media today, Flap cannot help but think there will be a conservative “BACKLASH” with the concomitant spillover in ratings – even for entertainment shows.

    Call it a “SILENT” boycott.

Watch the ratings and show cancellations fall in line with the major newspapers – downward.

    • Reagan worked his magic with tax cuts. Obama is trying to do the same with government spending. But stimulus packages are only supposed to keep the recession from getting worse or morphing into a mini-depression. I don't think anyone expects that $500 billion in hot money to return America to prosperity. Only time (and the private sector) can do that, especially with a downturn caused by a credit crisisa and deflating asset bubble. And four years may not be enough time for the Obama presidency to traverse that long road or complete that steep climb.
      +++++++
      Agreed. Symbolism over substance

    • The California Supreme Court's surprising announcement that it will quickly review the legality of Proposition 8, banning gay marriage, has prompted growing speculation that the four judges who found a right to gay marriage in the state Constitution in a May ruling will quickly throw Prop. 8 out. If that happens, watch out for a "barn-burner of an election — the biggest thing this state has ever seen," says recall election guru Ted Costa.

Costa says he's already been contacted by some of the folks who would seek to recall Ronald George, Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar and Carlos Moreno if Prop. 8 is scrapped. He thinks it's premature and risky because talk of a recall "would just (bleep) off the judges."
      ++++++++
It will be NO problem gathering the signatures recalling the 4 Justices of the California Supreme Court that would vote to invalidate the will of the people.

    • The California Supreme Court could rule as early as this week on a lawsuit that seeks to invalidate Proposition 8, court spokeswoman Lynn Holton said today.
      ++++++++
If the California Supremes invalidate Proposition 8 all hell will break loose in California politics.

Meanwhile, more than 40 Democratic state legislators filed a friend of the court brief on behalf of opponents of the gay marriage ban approved last week by California voters.

    • In a teleconference last week among more than 100 gay legal scholars and others who support gay marriage, the mood was dour. "This has cast a pall" over what had otherwise been a historic election on Nov. 4, said D'Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of the National Lesbian Gay Law Association. Longtime gay rights advocate Dean Trantalis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and others on the conference call expressed concern that the gay rights movement had become too focused on marriage, and is now paying the price in other more critical areas. "Marriage was never our issue," Trantalis said. "It was thrust upon us by the other side, and they've done a very good job of beating us up over it."

Gay activists should also rethink their attacks on churches and people of fatih. They are nt winning heats and minds to their cause.

    • Sarah Palin, who started her post-campaign bid for rehabilitation with a series of high profile interviews this week, emerged from the 2008 election in an even more politically damaged condition than previously understood, new data show.

In the national Election Day exit poll, fully 60% of voters said they did not consider her qualified to serve as president if necessary, while only 38% thought she would be ready to step in. Those figures were daunting enough, but new calculations from the exit poll provided by the NBC News political unit show that outside of the Republican base skepticism about Palin’s credentials reached even more imposing heights. While 74% of Republicans thought Palin was qualified, just 35% of independents and 9% of Democrats agreed, the figures (first aired on David Gregory’s 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Monday night) showed.
      +++++++
Sarah Palin has plenty of time to mature as a politicla figure. Look for her to do GOP fundraising well into 2010 and do some travel.
