Jeb Bush Florida Senate Candidacy – All of Us Will Lay Down For Jeb

    Jeb bush June 2008

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush answers questions at the Excellence in Action conference, a national summit on education reform, in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Still popular in Florida, former Gov. Jeb Bush said Wednesday that he’s interested in the seat Sen. Mel Martinez is giving up, and the field of possible candidates could quickly narrow to make way for the president’s younger brother, June 19, 2008.

Jeb’s announcement that he is “interested” in the Mel Martinez U.S. Senate seat FREEZES the field of Democrats and Republicans.

The potential Senate candidacy of Jeb Bush is clearing the decks of Democratic and Republican challengers in the Sunshine State — as intended.

Politicians from both sides of the aisle said the former governor of Florida and brother of President Bush is popular enough to scare away Republican and Democratic challengers before many really consider a bid for the seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Mel Martinez (R).

“It has Jeb’s name on it,” said Bob Butterworth, the state’s former Democratic four-term attorney general and secretary of the Department of Children and Families. “He has the potential to scare away people on both sides of the aisle.”

“He’s going to take his time to decide this, but it’s his for the taking,” agreed Washington lobbyist Al Cardenas, a two-term chairman of the Republican Party of Florida and one of Bush’s closest friends. “He’s been really disappointed with the party’s performance, and he sees this as a chance to reinvigorate it and help it follow a new path. This is a call to arms for him.”

If Jeb Bush says he is interested then he is running.

    Stay tuned…….

Russian Warship To Cross Panama Canal – Will U.S. Navy Provoke?

    russian-battleship-and-hugo

Flap bets the Russian Navy may be in for a little surprise, no?

A Russian warship will sail through the Panama Canal this week for the first time since World War II, the navy announced Wednesday, pushing ahead with a symbolic projection of Moscow’s power in a traditional U.S. zone of influence.

The destroyer Admiral Chabanenko will arrive Friday at a former U.S. naval base in Panama’s Pacific port of Balboa for a six-day visit after carrying out joint maneuvers with the Venezuelan navy in the Caribbean Sea, navy spokesman Capt. Igor Dygalo said in a telephone interview.

The Panama Canal has long been a symbol of U.S. clout in Latin America, and Dygalo said no Soviet or Russian military ship has sailed through it since World War II. The wartime alliance between the U.S. and the Soviet Union swiftly gave way to the mistrust, military buildups and proxy conflicts of the Cold War.

In a throwback to those times, the Russian navy statement announcing the plans referred to the base the Admiral Chabanenko will visit as Rodman naval base—its name when it was a U.S. base many years ago.

Rodman was the hub for all U.S. naval activities in South America and supported fleet units transiting the 50-mile (80-kilometer) canal. But control of the facility shifted to Panama a decade ago, and it is now called the Balboa naval base.

Monday’s joint maneuvers with Venezuela, which brought the Admiral Chabanenko and the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Peter the Great across the Atlantic along with two support ships, were widely seen as a show of Kremlin anger over the U.S. use of warships to deliver aid to Georgia after its August war with Russia.

Russian warships tailed U.S. ships in the Black Sea, where Russia borders Georgia, on that mission.

Wow – two big Russian ships crossed the Atlantic to support dictator Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

Just a reminder to Americans that while the price of gasoline has fallen precipitiously that American Energy indpendence is essential over the next decade.

Then, we don’t have to fund and deal with these tin-horn tyrants and their totalitarian governments.

  • Hillary Clinton

Is Hillary Clinton Constitutionally Ineligible to Serve as Secretary of State?

    hillaryandobama

Answer: Yes, according to Judicial Watch:

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is constitutionally ineligible to serve as Secretary of State in the Obama administration.

According to the Ineligibility Clause of the United States Constitution, no member of Congress can be appointed to an office that has benefited from a salary increase during the time that Senator or Representative served in Congress. A January 2008 Executive Order signed by President Bush during Hillary Clinton’s current Senate term increased the salary for Secretary of State, thereby rendering Senator Clinton ineligible for the position.

Specifically, Article I, section 6 of the U.S. Constitution provides “No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been encreased during such time.” The provision is seen by most as designed by our Founding Fathers to protect against corruption.

Ok, so what legal loophole with the Democrats use?

Remember the DC Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supremes still are controlled by the RIGHT.

Mormon Shocker: Donny Osmond is Against Gay Marriage

    donny osmond
Entertainer and recording artist Donny Osmond

Donny Osmond weighs in on gay marriage.

There are many gay individuals that are members of our church. I know many of them. In fact, some of my best friends are gay. You ask how I react regarding their marriages. Well, I do support our Church leaders who say that we can accept those with gay tendencies in our church as long as they do not act upon their temptations. Everyone has tenancies to succumb to temptation, but we all have the same standard given to us by our Father in Heaven. Whether we may be tempted to be immoral with members of our own sex or of the opposite sex, we are expected to live chaste lives. This is very well explained not only in the Book of Mormon, but in the Bible as well.

You see, the whole beauty of God’s plan is that we all have our free agency to live our lives the way we want to live them. Personally, I believe in the words stated above and that they came from a living prophet, so I abide by them.

We all determine for ourselves what is right and what is not right for our own lives and how we live God’s commandments. I am not a judge and I will never judge anyone for the decisions they make unless they are causing harm to another individual. I love my friends, including my gay friends. We are all God’s children. It is their choice, not mine on how they conduct their lives and choose to live the commandments according to the dictates of their own conscience.

Ok, Donny, Flap understands but the self- righteous Proposition 8 folks will either boycott you now because you are a member of the LDS Church or just because you are a bigoted hater.

    Take your pick.

Somehow I do not think your audience will mind one way or the other – but Harrah’s Entertainment (owners of the Las Vegas Flamingo Hotel where Donny and Marie have been performing) who are big contributors to the homosexual lobby might.

And, that would be a shame.

California Proposition 8 – The Musical

See more Jack Black videos at Funny or Die
Proposition 8: The Musical! starring Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, Allison Janney and a buncha other liberal actor types…

The LEFT and gay marriage proponents ACTUALLY think ridiculing The Bible and Christianity is the way to win “hearts and minds” to win support for gay marriage.

But, everyone knows what the elitist Hollywoood types think about the commoners who foot the bill for their extravagant and immoral lifestyles, now don’t we?

Interesting how they only ridiculed the Obama supporters who helped pass Proposition 8 in passing.

    Update:

Some reviews are in courtesy of the Los Angeles Times:

Gawker: “This reminds us how smart Obama was to keep celebrities from too-vocally supporting him…. Because usually they seem really obnoxious and do more to aggravate than they do to inure. Oh, plus the music sucks.”

Playbill has some of the cast names: The “Proposition 8’ers and The People That Follow Them” include John C. Reilly as Prop 8 Leader; Allison Janney as Prop 8 Leader’s #1 Wife; Kathy Najimy as Prop 8 Leader’s #2 Wife; Jenifer Lewis as Riffing Prop 8’er; Craig Robinson as A Preacher; and
Rashida Jones, Lake Bell and Sarah Chalke as Scary Catholic School Girls From Hell.

Re-elected Senator Chambliss: Sarah Palin is DYNAMITE

    Sarah Palin and Saxby Chamblis

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, at podium, campaigns for Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., right, in Atlanta on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008. Palin urged Georgia voters to back Chambliss in Tuesday’s runoff in an election eve appeal that underscored her popularity within the Republican Party and the GOP’s efforts to stave off erosion of its shrinking Senate numbers.

Yes, Sarah Palin is DYNAMITE and a ROCK STAR in the GOP.

Senator Saxby Chambliss cannot say enough about her:

    • “I can’t overstate the impact she had down here,” Chambliss said during an interview Wednesday morning on Fox News.
    • “When she walks in a room, folks just explode,” he added. “And they really did pack the house everywhere we went. She’s a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she’s got a great future in the Republican Party.”
    • “We had John McCain and Mike Huckabee and Gov. Romney and Rudy Giuliani, but Sarah Palin came in on the last day, did a fly-around and, man, she was dynamite,” he said. “We packed the houses everywhere we went. And it really did allow us to peak and get our base fired up.”

This is why the LEFT has so personally attacked Palin and painted her as a know-nothing rube who is out of her element. In the meantime, the ‘Cuda will govern Alaska, win re-election and raise tons of money for the GOP.

Gallup Poll: African Americans as Conservative as Republicans on Some Moral Issues Including Gay Marriage

    Black Democrats 1

An interesting poll just out by the Gallup shop.

Only 31% of black Democrats in America say homosexual relations are morally acceptable, roughly the same as the 30% of Republicans who agree, while very much different from the 61% of nonblack Democrats who say homosexual relations are morally acceptable.

And, this position on the issue of gay politics propelled California’s Proposition 8 which restored the traditional defintion of marriage to the California Constitution to victory in November.

Exit-poll results after that vote on Nov. 4 suggested that black California voters had overwhelmingly voted in favor of the amendment, while overall, Democrats in California overwhelmingly voted against it — essentially confirming the national attitude structure apparent from Gallup’s analysis.

This explains the reluctance of Barack Obama to ACTIVELY campaign against Proposition 8 in California and to state emphatically he supports marriage between a man and a woman. How does this translate into Obama’s public policy?

Obama has put homosexual politics on the backburner and his staff have stated the “don’t ask don’t tell” military position may ONLY be evaluated in a year or so.

Homosexual organizations wish to bring the gay marriage issue back to the California voters in 2010 should the California Supreme Court fail to overturn Propsoition 8 (which they will). With this poll, California gay marriage proponents have a long way to go.

New Poll: How Obama Got Elected – Interviews with Obama Voters

www.HowObamaGotElected.com by John Ziegler looks at how media coverage of the 2008 election impacted what Obama voters knew (or thought they knew) about the campaign.

John Ziegler is out with a new poll – you know the one that Zogby took the heat and pulled out of the gig. Captain Ed has a summary:

    • Those “exposed” to Fox News got “congressional control” correct 64-25 (+39)
    • Those “exposed” to CNN got “congressional control” correct 48-38 (+10)
    • Those “exposed” to Network news got “congressional control” correct 48-39 (+9)
    • Those “exposed” to print media got “congressional control” correct 52-37 (+15)
    • Those “exposed” to MSNBC got “congressional control” correct 55-35 (+20)
    • Those “exposed” to talk radio got “congressional control” correct 61-29 (+32)

    Some interesting Sarah Palin observations:

    • Women under 55 did worse than they might have by guessing on four of the thirteen questions, and yet 95% of them knew that Palin was the candidate with a pregnant teenage daughter. Even 95% of those in this demographic group who didn’t know “congressional control” got this question correct.
    • Those “exposed” to MSNBC “scored” 90% correct on the three Palin questions (including an incredible 98% on the “pregnant teenage daughter” question), while those not “exposed” to MSNBC averaged 84% correct on those three questions.

The GOP definitley needs to work on its communications shop and have a much better messenger.

    DUH…….

Timm Herdt of the Ventura County Star has a piece up this morning outlining the shoe leather beat Tony Strickland inflicted on Hannah-Beth Jackson.

The spasm of spending in this fall’s $10 million 19th Senate District campaign purchased many things: an avalanche of mail, a brigade of consultants, a squadron of pollsters and enough television advertising to launch a new brand of shampoo.

But, in the end, the decisive difference may have been something as inexpensive as shoe leather.

Republican Tony Strickland was sworn in this week as the district’s new senator, the prize for winning what was not only the most expensive campaign in California this fall but also the state’s closest election.

Strickland appeared skinny, almost gaunt. He had the look of someone who had survived a physical ordeal that had brought him nearly to the point of exhaustion. “I did a lot of walking,” he explained.

I asked Strickland whether he had knocked on every door in the Santa Clarita neighborhoods that are part of his district. After a thoughtful pause, he answered: “I believe I did.”

Having observed the Tony Strickland campaign for months, Flap can vouch that Tony Strickland took nothing for granted, worked very hard, and walked the precincts. Strickland knew he had to turn out his GOP base in order to beat Jackson in a very tough Democrat, Barack Obama turn-out year.

The goal was to turn out all of the Republican voteres in the district (which has a slight GOP registration edge) and a few more. The few more were located in a slight sliver of the district located in Santa Clarita.

Going into the 2008 campaign, Strickland knew that he would be in for a tough race, and he knew that in order to win, he needed to capitalize on the Republicans’ Santa Clarita advantage.

The Los Angeles County portion of the district included only 7 percent of the district’s 525,000 voters. But those 38,000 voters could be critical. Not only were they decidedly Republican (44.5 percent to 33.5 percent), but the area was also separated from the rest of the district. It was not part of either the Ventura or Santa Barbara media markets, and could therefore be worked in isolation.

Early in the campaign, Strickland secured the endorsements of every member of the Santa Clarita City Council, and he campaigned in the district alongside his friend Cameron Smyth, the city’s former mayor who now represents the area in the Assembly.

That focus on Santa Clarita provided Strickland with his narrow margin of victory. Not only did he win the LA County portion of the district, he outperformed the 11-point GOP voter-registration edge there, winning by 15.6 percentage points.

Diligent basic, campaign work and an excellent strategy led to a close victory.

Congrats to Team Strickland and political consultant Joe Justin for the win.

    Now, the governing part…….
