I suspect that they decided long ago that making any deal with Blagojevich on any subject was too risky. I think that everyone on the transition team was probably instructed to tell anyone who reached out from Blagojevich which candidates Obama liked, but that the governor should use his best judgment in filling the seat. I think that is why Obama is so confident that no one on his team was involved in any deal making even though he can't say for sure who might have had contacts. The fact that David Axelrod, a known Daley operative, was the brains behind Obama's campaign leads one to think we could see Chicago-style politics infect the White House itself. I guess that's already happening.
