President Obama Warns GOP About Listening to Rush Limbaugh – Remember “I WON”

    Obama-Vs-Rush-Limbaugh

President Obama is already at war with the MSM Press and now he is picking on conservative radio talk show king, Rush Limbaugh.

President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

“There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats,” the official said. “We shouldn’t let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done.”

That wasn’t Obama’s only jab at Republicans today.

While discussing the stimulus package with top lawmakers in the White House’s Roosevelt Room, President Obama shot down a critic with a simple message.

“I won,” he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. “I will trump you on that.”

The response was to the objection by Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Arizona) to the president’s proposal to increase benefits for low-income workers who don’t owe federal income taxes.

    The post-partisan President, indeed……

Video: Sarah Palin Delivers Alaska State of the State Address – Institutes Hiring Freeze

Sarah Palin delivers State of the State

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gives the state of the state address to a joint session of the Senate and House in the Capitol in Juneau, Alaska on Thursday Jan. 22, 2009 as Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, back, listen

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is back to governing and delivered her “state of the state” address yesterday.

Gov. Sarah Palin has instituted a hiring freeze and pledged to work with state lawmakers to rein in spending as Alaska faces the possibility of a more than billion dollar deficit this year.

She told lawmakers Thursday night in her annual State of the State address that she also has restricted nonessential spending as oil prices remain low.

“At a time when other state legislatures are staring at multibillion dollar deficits, and when our federal government proposes a deficit in excess of a trillion dollars this year alone, we have all the cautionary examples we need in the virtues of living within our means. With less revenue, we have an obligation to spend less money,” Palin said.

The hiring freeze will not cover public safety positions, she said. Palin also is proposing an overall 7 percent reduction in spending from last year, first announced in December.

Palin told a joint session of the Alaska Legislature that while Alaska is well positioned because of savings from high oil prices, the state has a duty to spend less money.

The ‘CUDA is back in the saddle.

Sorry: Tom Hanks Apologizes for Calling Traditional Marriage Supporting Mormons – “UNAMERICAN”

Tom Hanks at Big Love premiere

Tom Hanks, left, executive producer of the HBO series ‘Big Love,’ poses with cast members, from left, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Bill Paxton and Chloe Sevigny at the show’s third season premiere in Los Angeles, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009

Remember last week when Tom Hanks exposed his anti-Mormon bigotry at the premiere of the show in which he is executive producer, “Big Love?” The controversial HBO show deals with a Mormon polygamist family.

Tom Hanks, Executive Producer for HBO’s controversial polygamist series “Big Love,” made his feelings toward the Mormon Church’s involvement in California’s Prop 8 (which prohibits gay marriage) very clear at the show’s premiere party on Wednesday night.

“The truth is this takes place in Utah, the truth is these people are some bizarre offshoot of the Mormon Church, and the truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen,” he told Tarts. “There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American and I am one of them. I do not like to see any discrimination codified on any piece of paper, any of the 50 states in America, but here’s what happens now. A little bit of light can be shed and people can see who’s responsible and that can motivate the next go around of our self correcting constitution and hopefully we can move forward instead of backwards. So lets have faith in not only the American, but Californian constitutional process.”

    Now, Hanks has apologized.

Last week, I labeled members of the Mormon church who supported California’s Proposition 8 as “un-American.” I believe Proposition 8 is counter to the promise of our Constitution; it is codified discrimination. But everyone has a right to vote their conscience – nothing could be more American. To say members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who contributed to Proposition 8 are “un-American” creates more division when the time calls for respectful disagreement. No one should use “un- American” lightly or in haste. I did. I should not have.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Hanks

The Mormon church has voiced its objection to Hank’s original statement.

A spokesperson for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kim Farah, took offense at Hanks’s comments, telling FOX News, “Expressing an opinion in a free and democratic society is as American as it gets.”

Business trump politics Tom? Or did you receive a revelation?

Not smart to bash Mormons when you are producing a show about polygamy and MORMONS, now is it? FAIL

How contemptible. Flap won’t be paying to see any more of Hank’s shows at the movies or otherwise.

Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand Appointed to Replace Hillary Clinton in US Senate – Opposition Forms

    Kirsten gillibrand appointed

Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., left, and New York Gov. David Paterson appear at a news conference in Albany, N.Y., Friday, Jan. 23, 2009. Gillibrand, a second-term lawmaker from upstate New York, was named by Paterson to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated when Hillary Rodham Clinton resigned to become secretary of state in the Obama administration

New York Governor David Paterson appointed two term Democrat Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand to repalce Hillary Clinton.

Gov. Paterson, defying the liberal wing of his Democratic Party, has chosen little-known, NRA-backed, upstate Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton as New York’s junior senator, it was learned last night.

The surprising – and, for many Democrats shocking – decision to pick the conservative Gillibrand, 42, from Hudson in Columbia County, was disclosed by the governor in calls to party officials and some members of the state’s congressional delegation, many of whom said they were unhappy with the selection, sources said.

The GOP must be happy with this Blue Dog Democrat being appointed. Opposition from the LEFT is already forming.

Anti-gun groups have denounced the pick and suggested they will be closely eyeing Gillibrand’s transition from a congresswoman in a gun-toting upstate district to a senator representing one of the most anti-gun cities in America, where she will need support to win the Democratic nomination in 2010.

Signs of severe unrest with the pick are already apparent, particularly in a blogging community that was happy to have her hold down a conservative House district, but thinks it can do better for a senator in a blue state.

Rep. Gillibrand is little known and will be no match for former New York Governor George Pataki, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani or current New York Mayor Bloomberg. She undoubtedly will have to move to the LEFT or face a NUTROOTS backed primary challenge.

Plus, her conservative leaning Congressional district in upstate New York which she is vacating will be ripe for a GOP pick-up.

All things considered, a perfect appointment for the Republican Party.

Shocker: Obama Becomes Irritated With The Press – The Press War Has Started

    Obama-not-the-time-for-ques

    Shocker?

Not Really. Remember all of the Obama schmoozing in the world will not stop the eventual press war.

    So, President Obama becomes irritated.

President Obama made a surprise visit to the White House press corps Thursday night, but got agitated when he was faced with a substantive question.

Asked how he could reconcile a strict ban on lobbyists in his administration with a Deputy Defense Secretary nominee who lobbied for Raytheon, Obama interrupted with a knowing smile on his face.

“Ahh, see,” he said, “I came down here to visit. See this is what happens. I can’t end up visiting with you guys and shaking hands if I’m going to get grilled every time I come down here.”

Pressed further by the Politico reporter about his Pentagon nominee, William J. Lynn III, Obama turned more serious, putting his hand on the reporter’s shoulder and staring him in the eye.

“Alright, come on” he said, with obvious irritation in his voice. “We will be having a press conference at which time you can feel free to [ask] questions. Right now, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to you guys – that’s all I was trying to do.”

The president was quickly saved by a cameraman in the room who called out: “I’d like to say it one more time: ‘Mr. President.’ ”

    It is just starting.

Here is the video where President Obama dodges Politico’s Jonathan Martin’s question:

    Oh the transparency……

    Update:

    The press is also pissed
about being excluded from the second swearing in ceremony.

News organizations that cover the White House sparred with the Obama administration on Thursday over access issues for photographers and rules for briefings.

Representatives from Obama’s press office held a conference call with photo editors, who are concerned that the administration prefers distributing photos taken by a White House photographer in cases where photojournalists have been permitted access in the past. It was unclear whether the two sides had reached any accommodation.

The Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Presse refused to distribute photos taken by the White House of the new president on his first day in the Oval Office because of the dispute. Still photographers were also not given access to Obama’s do-over oath of office administered Wednesday night by Chief Justice John Roberts and an economics meeting on Thursday.

Television network bureau chiefs also protested the exclusion of video cameras from the second oath of office.

Every Hollywood left-leaning celeb made a point to be seen at the Obama Inauguration. Paris Hilton was missing but didn’t she do a commercial for John McCain?

    Just kidding.

Team McCain ran an effective ad touting Obama’s celeb status featuring Paris Hilton about the time “The One” made his Berlin speech. And, after the flap of using Paris and Britney Spears, the McCain campaign reworked the ad.

Now, Damon, you watch yourself in Paris. Flap understands Jacque Chirac’s dog may still be on the loose.

    • Now that Caroline Kennedy has dropped out, the new frontrunner for Hillary Clinton's senate seat is upstate congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democratic hero for capturing a Republican-majority district in 2006. Camera crews are now posted outside her home in Hudson, New York, and she is reportedly telling Washington colleagues that she believes she will be tapped by Governor David Paterson, who is now in such a rush to announce a pick that he plans to do it either tomorrow or Saturday.

The irony is that Paterson may be swinging from the nation's most prominent Democratic family to one with strong Republican ties.

    • Representative Carolyn McCarthy of Long Island, a staunch supporter of gun-control laws, said in an interview Thursday that she would challenge a fellow Democrat, Representative Kirsten E. Gillibrand, if Gov. David A. Paterson names Ms. Gillibrand to the Senate.
    • PIX NEWS is being told that Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand is the reported choice of Governor David Paterson to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton. Two Congressional sources say members of the New York delegation have been invited to join Governor Paterson for the announcement in Albany at noon tomorrow.
    • President Barack Obama urged Israel on Thursday to open its borders with Gaza
The plea came in a speech that signalled the new US administration’s shift from Bush-era policy on the Middle East and the world as a whole. In a high-profile address on his second day in office, just hours after he signed an executive order to close the centre at Guantánamo Bay, Mr Obama proclaimed that the US would “actively and aggressively seek a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians” in the wake of this month’s Gaza war

      Good luck with that…..
    • Stefan Friedman, spokesman for Caroline Kennedy, who is getting chewed up by the New York press today, puts out a response, leaving her reasons for withdrawing unspecified:

Caroline Kennedy withdrew her name for consideration from the United States Senate for personal reasons. Any statements to the contrary are false. The governor set up a fair and deliberative selection process. This kind of mudslinging demeans that process and all those involved.

2 months in the arena for Caroline.

    • In a stunning revelation, a source close to Gov. David Paterson insisted this afternoon that the governor "had no intention" of picking Caroline Kennedy for New York's vacant senate seat – because she was "mired" in an issue over taxes, her nanny and possibly her marriage.

Kennedy was "mired in some potentially embarrassing personal issues," the source said, citing tax liabilities and worker compensation liabilities connected to the employment of a nanny.

The source also said the state of her marriage may have presented a problem as well.

"She has a tax problem that came up in the vetting and a potential nanny issue," the source said. "And reporters are starting to look at her marriage more closely," the source continued, refusing to provide any specifics.

    • MSNBC wants to create a new show to fill its 10 p.m. hour. Might Bill Maher be its host?

It's widely known in the cable news world that the third-place network has a longstanding interest in Maher, who now hosts a weekly current-events chat program, Real Time, on HBO. He's an obvious choice, having hosted his own daily talk show, Politically Incorrect, until ABC canceled him in 2002, a few months after the comedian made some poorly-received remarks about the Sept. 11 hijackers.

Though more libertarian than strictly liberal, Maher's politics make him a good fit with MSNBC's audience, which has grown in direct proportion to the network's enthusiasm for the Democratic party. One caveat: Maher would probably be expensive (although Chris Matthews's recent pay cut, from $5 million a year to around $2 million, frees up some cash for that).

      We can only hope

    • Yesterday, President Barack Obama held the first meeting of his military cabinet. Expectations are huge; among those in attendance was Gen. David Petraeus, the commander in chief of Centcom and the officer who will be responsible for the Obama administration's strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For some insight into what Gen. Petraeus expects from President Obama, I spoke with a friend of his; Col. Peter Mansoor (Ret)., a key adviser who served two tours in Iraq. Mansoor is the author of Baghdad at Sunrise and an architect of the counterinsurgency doctrine that proved successful in Iraq. Mansoor is now a professor of history at Ohio State University.

    • Here's what we know: Caroline Kennedy's advisers and friends believed she would be appointed to Hillary Clinton's Senate seat later this week, and were working with New York Gov. Paterson and the intermediaries on the roll out.

They fully expected it to come.

But then sometime early yesterday evening, around the time Clinton resigned her Senate seat, Kennedy called New York Gov. Paterson and said she was withdrawing for personal reasons.

Now, that set off another flurry of activity where it appears that some on Paterson's team tried to convince her not to withdraw.

The Associated Press then reported Kennedy was not withdrawing. But then there was another conference call just around midnight, and Kennedy finally, finally withdrew.
      ++++++
      Yeah, right…..
