Shocker: Maverick John McCain Throws Daughter Meghan Over The Side

Meghan McCain and her father, Senator John McCain

Well, sort of……

Sen. John McCain told CNN Friday he doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with his outspoken daughter.

Meghan McCain, the 24-year-old daughter of the former Republican presidential nominee, has grabbed the media spotlight this year, thanks to a string of attention grabbing blog posts, television appearances and speeches.

Her comments critical of some of her party’s positions, and jabs at some senior Republicans like former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Bush senior advisor Karl Rove, have made her one of this year’s hottest young GOP pundits.

“I love and respect my daughter, and I appreciate the fact that she brings fresh views and ideas and we need that in our party,” the senator said Friday on CNN’s American Morning. “We don’t always agree, and sometimes we have spirited discussions, and that is good in families.”

Flap knew this would happen after Meghan attacked Rudy Giuliani, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich and Dick Cheney yesterday on the View.

Plus, the Maverick has an Arizona Republican primary challenge where he needs to raise some money.

Who do you think will do fundraisers for John McCain now?

I don’t understand how McCain’s statment of “We don’t always agree…” equals ‘throwing her over the side.

Hyperbolic marginalization is the domain of the “liberal punditry” (including that liberal punditry which proceeds from the mouths of self-identified conservatives), and one of their greatest discreditors & weaknesses.

Let them own it; it’s a great way to identify them.

Why would Senator McCain TODAY even address the issue?

The Maverick is sending a message and it is for Meghan to cool it. He worries about the downside which is considerable.

Meghan is NOT making the Senator any friends in Arizona.

I don’t see how McCain’s comments about his daughter is tantamount to “throwing her under the bus” He is quoted in the same comment that he loves his daughter.

    Dennis,

Ok, I agree that maybe there is some hyperbole in the headline but softened by the “well sort of.”

You think Senator McCain’s statement is typical of the support given a daughter?

He suddenly appears to comment the very next day after Meghan rips the GOP base who has worked with him over many years.

    Not a glowing endorsement.

I couldn’t watch that video again – that girl sends me into a blinding rage.

I’m getting the feeling she gives poor daddy a headache too – but frankly, he reaps what he sows. He sowed the wind and he’s reaping the whirlwind. He chose to spend his political career attacking Republicans for being conservative, being a gadfly, and his daughter is just like him. Only she’s really stupid and she doesn’t have any of the heroism he had. Her mantra of MY GENERATION (and she really seems to think she speaks for them LOL) is tantamount to shaving my head with a cheesegrater while chewing on tinfoil.
