Susan Atkins Parole Hearing Rescheduled to September 2, 2009

Atkins was expected to succumb to brain cancer months ago, but the former Charles Manson follower imprisoned for killing actress Sharon Tate nearly four decades ago still clings to life. Now, a hearing that is perhaps her last chance at freedom has been abruptly put off until September 2009.
So says the California Department of Corrections.
Atkins has served 38 years in prison, longer than any other female prisoner, officials said. Before last year’s attempt, she was most recently considered for, and denied, parole in 2000.
In early 2008 Atkins was diagnosed with brain cancer. With one leg amputated and the other paralyzed, Atkins has only six months to live, doctors say. Atkins petitioned for so-called compassionate release, igniting a debate about when mercy is appropriate.
Those backing her release argued unsuccessfully that the cost of keeping Atkins in prison, which by now could be well over a million dollars, should have favored her release because it would save the state substantial amounts of money.
Others, including former Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi, said it was a question of mercy and told The Times it was wrong to say “just because Susan Atkins showed no mercy to her victims, we therefore are duty-bound to follow her inhumanity and show no mercy to her.”
But most were unwavering in their contention she should die in prison considering her crimes.
Tate, the wife of film director Roman Polanski, was 8 1/2 months pregnant when she and four others were killed at her hilltop home in Benedict Canyon. The actress, who was stabbed to death, had begged Atkins for her life.
“She asked me to let her baby live,” Atkins told parole officials in 1993. “I told her I didn’t have mercy for her.”
Atkins was housed at the California Institution for Women in Corona from April 1971 until March 2008, when she was transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
And, here is why, Susan Atkins will likely die in prison:
Remember Susan Atkins famously told a sobbing and begging Sharon Tate prior to her murder and mutilation, “Look bitch, I have no mercy for you.”
Susan Atkins should remain incarcerated for the rest of her natural life.

1. If you are Christian and follow the ways of Jesus Christ, you would know that compassion is a major tenet of the Christian faith. Jesus wants you to forgive. God forgives everyone. No matter what the sin, you are forgiven if you ask forgiveness. It is wrong of you to say rot in hell to this woman if you truly find yourself to be a Christian. It’s hypocritical and one of the many reasons I have found myself as far away from the Christian faith as possible. I was raised in it, I am well-versed and quite knowledgeable concerning what a good Christian should do. Stop placing your judgment on this woman and telling her to rot in hell. Your sin by passing this judgment is just as heavy in God’s eyes as the murder of all of these people. No sin is worse than another. If you’d like to disagree, I’d like you to get out your bible and read a good bit.
2. Just because the United States says you are an adult at 18, does not make you an adult psychologically. The adolescent mind is not fully formed and is not capable of reasoning and understanding consequences until around 25-26. It is highly impressionable and most people in that age group are willing to do most anything to feel like they are loved and belong. Under the influence of a very convincing person and the overwhelming group mindset, a person will do just about anything. Please refer to the Milgram experiment :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment. When told to obey orders, people are willing to commit atrocious acts. It may be wrong and deserves punishment, but compassion is also important for these people.
3. Those who say she should be without medical treatment are just as guilty as she is. That is beyond cruel and unusual and would actually be more painful and more traumatic than the killing of Sharon Tate. That would not be an eye for an eye. She’s served her time. Let her out and let her die with dignity. She has spent all her time living with these horrible acts she committed. It will never leave her, even if she’s out of jail. Stop wasting our money, and let the woman just die on her own.

If Susan Atkins thinks that she has paid society for her horrid crimes by demanding to be released 11 times, she is in for one HELL of a surprise when she dies.
What Susan is going through now with the cancer in her brain and amputation of one leg is nothing compared with the HELL that is waiting for her upon death. What she is going through now will be a joy-ride compared to what is waiting for her.
