McCain used the Indian Affairs Committee to tear down the social conservative power base in DC. He tore down Delay and Norquist, and dogged the GOP agenda in Congress, and criticized Bush and got the nomination, but it wasn't of any use because the base wasn't there to vote for him. Now Romney is doing the same - he's using Politico and the other rags to burn all viable candidates. End of the day, even if he gets the nomination, he's going to end up all alone.
