    • In addition to fiscal discipline, however, DeVore's closet includes some weird and potentially damaging associations. As pointed out by a Republican source, the assemblyman is connected to noted birther Floyd Brown. Brown, who is famous for creating the 1988 Willie Horton ad and, more recently, pushing an effort to impeach Barack Obama, was supported by DeVore in his efforts to attack Democratic candidates in the 2008 presidential primary.

"Poll after poll shows it works," DeVore said of Brown's deeply controversial product.

All of which is not to say that associations like these — and his relative obscurity — will trip DeVore up in a primary race. Indeed, he likely relishes his current frame as a man of the conservative fringe.

    • Earlier today, Brian noted the endorsement race between former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, but I thought I'd add a few broader points about the sure-to be contentious California Senate primary.

It's pretty clear that DeVore, who has less built-in fundraising advantages and lacks institutional support, will try to Scozzafava-ize Fiorina. Essentially, his best bet is to portray her as a liberal who is being thrust upon voters by the establishment, while he tries to galvanize grassroots activists — and grab the online donations that go along with it. This much was pretty clear when DeVore spoke at a Spectator Newsmaker Breakfast in August. At the time, Fiorina wasn't even running yet, but he blasted her as a "rich moderate" and "self-funded dilettante."

    • Carla Fiorina's been (officially) on the campaign trail for, what, three days and it's like she's already wearing the GOP Senate crown. Boxer, Boxer, Boxer, Boxer, Boxer. That's the only opponent she can talk about.

Hey Carly, where's the respect for Chuck D from the OC, aka her GOP primary opponent Orange County Assemblyman Chuck DeVore? At her Pleasanton stop Friday, C-Fi was asked why she keeps talking about Boxer and not Chuck:

"She is the opponent," Carly said and laughed.

Uh, perhaps — if you win the GOP primary in June. So while we're talking Chuck — finally — how are you different than Chuck D?

Guess this moron MSM journalist from San Francisco didn't bother to look up today's Survey USA poll.

God, you guys really call yourselves journalists?

    • The illegal immigration issue is emerging as the biggest threat to passing healthcare reform in the House.

Congressional Hispanics have threatened to vote against the bill because of a last-minute threat from within the Democratic Caucus to bolster the House bill’s immigration restrictions to match those included in the Senate Finance bill.
And they’re also fighting President Barack Obama, the original sponsor of the language prohibiting illegal immigrants from accessing the public health insurance exchange.

On Thursday afternoon, four leaders of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) traveled to the White House to meet with Obama on behalf of the entire group.

    • California has problems, higher than average unemployment, a budget that’s bust and a man-made drought, however that is nothing compared to what California Barbara Boxer has planned – housing the 9/11 terrorists somewhere in the golden state.

Yes, move over Alcatraz, Boxer would like to see the 9/11 terrorists tried in federal civilian courts instead of traditional military commissions.

The same dirt bags that were responsible for killing more than 3,000 innocent Americans in 2001, may be transferred to California soil and join the ranks of Charles Manson, Hillside Strangler and O.J. Simpson.

Amendment 2669 in the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010 was written by Sen. Lindsey Graham-R S.C.; the amendment would have prevented those responsible for the 9/11 attacks any funds for prosecution.

California’s other Senator Diane Feinstein-D joined her partner in crime in voting to allow the terrorists to be tried in federal court.

    • It seems some conservative bloggers are so devoted to defeat the more establishment Republicans in the race that they assume all contests on the right are between a “stimulus” supporters like Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio or Dede Scozzafava and Doug Hoffman. Here, in the Golden State, some of my fellows in the rightosphere, including some very good bloggers are committed to Assemblyman Chuck DeVore in the race to replace our big-spending, California citizens-avoiding junior Senator Ma’am Barbara Boxer.

And because his opponent Carly Fiorina is backed by many establishment figures, they figure she’s not different than Dede.

    • Democratic senators on the Environment and Public Works Committee dismissed a Republican boycott of the panel's markup session and passed a climate change bill 11-1, with only Sen. Max Baucus of Montana opposing. When Republicans refused to attend markup sessions, committee chairwoman Sen. Barbara Boxer of California used an obscure procedure that allows a bill to be voted out of committee by a simple majority without considering amendments. The bill would mandate a 20 percent reduction in the United States' carbon emissions by the end of the next decade.

California GOP U.S. Senate Candidate Carly Fiorina Announces California Leadership Team

Speaking with local residents at a town-hall style meeting at Wawona Frozen Foods yesterday, one of California’s leading agri-businesses, U.S. Senate Candidate Carly Fiorina today called the comprehensive water package passed yesterday by the state Legislature a historic step forward to ensure families, farmers and businesses have long-term access to water. In addition, she called for short-term action in Washington to help get water flowing in the Central Valley.

This afternoon Carly Firoina announced her Campaign Leadership Team.

    From the press release:

Prominent Californians from across the state today united behind U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, coming together to form her campaign leadership team. This group of respected Californians is committed to supporting Fiorina in her bid to unseat Barbara Boxer in 2010.

“I am honored to have the support of so many great California leaders,” Fiorina said. “Their support is clear evidence that over the last 17 years California has not had the kind of representation in Washington, DC, that it deserves and it’s time for a change. That is why I am running against Barbara Boxer and I will work hard everyday with this great team to ensure my message of job creation, economic recovery and restoring fiscal accountability to Washington, DC is heard.”

Here is the list, a virtual Who’s Who in California Republican politics:

    Noteworthy to Flap:

    • Ed Atsinger, a founder of of Salem Communications which owns TownHall.com among other Christian contemporary music stations. Atsinger is a member of the Christian Right and has donated to Flap’s son’s high school: Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, California.
    • General William Lyon: A billionaire developer from Orange County who has donated millions to Flap’s alma mater USC.

The other donors are noteworthy and Carly Fiorina on the blogger conference call the other day said financial resources for her campaign would not be a problem (listen around 15:20). Fiorina was not referring to her own personal wealth. These supporters will be able to raise massive amounts of campaign cash.

Representative Elton Gallegly: Congress Must Focus on Job Creation and Not Job Killing

    Obama Kisses Nancy Reagan

Nancy Reagan, President Barack Obama, Senator Richard Lugar (R- Indiana) and Representative Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley)

    From the press release:

“The unemployment numbers released today underscores what I have been saying for months – Congress should be focusing on real job-creation legislation. It should be Congress’s most important domestic priority right now,” said U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties).

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the national unemployment rate reached 10.2 percent in October, the highest rate since 1983.

“I voted against the trillion-dollar stimulus bill in February because it was unfocused and spent more on social programs than job creation. Unfortunately for the American people, I have been proven right. Unemployment was 7.9 percent nationally when President Obama signed the bill in February. It’s now 10.2 percent and growing. Very few jobs were created by the stimulus, as reflected in today’s unemployment numbers.

“Of those jobs that were created, more than half are government, not private sector, jobs. That means more deficit spending or higher taxes to cover government payrolls with no goods or services created to stimulate the economy. Likewise, the health care and cap and trade bills being pushed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will destroy millions of more jobs through burdensome and unnecessary regulations on small businesses and higher taxes on businesses and the American people.

“We can and must do better.

“I supported a stimulus package that actually would have created jobs by giving small businesses—which employ half of all Americans—the incentives to innovate and expand, thereby producing new jobs. Congress should repeal the stimulus package passed in February and pass this bill now.

“I supported an energy bill that would have created more jobs and enhanced our national security by expanding energy production in all areas—including wind, solar, nuclear and natural gas. I urge Speaker Pelosi to allow a vote on this bill.

“I support a healthcare plan that does no harm by opening up competition and reining in frivolous lawsuits and which helps the working poor and those with preexisting conditions to obtain coverage. Again, I urge the speaker to rescind her $1.3 trillion healthcare bill and push for real reform that creates, not destroys, jobs.”

As an aside for Ventura County, California political observers: Elton Gallegly is NOT retiring and running for re-election in 2010.

CA-Sen Poll Watch: Barbara Boxer Unfavorable But…..

The latest California survey USA poll shows why the GOP might have an opportunity to wrest a California U.S. Senate seat away from incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer. Senator Boxer has a net unfavorable rating.  The poll is here.

But, the likely Republican nominee Carly Fiorina also has net unfavorability driven by Democrats and Independent voters. On the positive side, she is the ONLY Republican with net favorables by GOP voters.

The other Republican candidates, Chuck DeVore and Al Ramirez are unknown by three quarters of voters and both have net negative favorability.

If Carly Fiorina is to have a chance to beat Barbara Boxer next November, it appears she will have to appeal to the broad spectrum of California voters, including independent, or decline to state ones.

But, Fiorina’s campaign has just begun and the heat is being turned upon Boxer for her partisan style and failures in leadership.

    Stay tuned……

Day By Day November 6, 2009 – Thirst for Representation

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The American Association of Retired Persons – AARP has been a LEFT-WING spewing organization for many years. Although I am eligible I have NOT joined and NEVER will. They do NOT represent me on American health care or anything else.

The American Medical Association is a strange endorser of Obamacare. Perhaps the physicans that do belong to the AMA (and their membership has been eroding lately and NOT every MD belongs) are either big government, public health types or they are just scared as to not be a part of a reform solution. I do know that many physicans that are my age WILL retire if the government takes over the remainder of private medicine. How will Obama and Pelosi deal with a lack of trained professionals?

With last Tuesday’s election results in Virginia and New Jersey, I continue to hold that Obamacare with a public option has a slim chance of passing into law. The GOP will NOT support it in the Senate (even Senator Olympia Snowe) and neither will a few Democrats like Senator Joe Lieberman. The Democrat majority will not be able to invoke cloture (prevent a filibuster). Now, reconcilation may be a different matter – but very risky politically in an upcoming midterm congressional election year.

Exit question: Will Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid push Obamacare through at the political risk of their members?
