U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore's campaign said today it raised $655,000 from mid August until the end of 2009. During the same period, his rival in the California senate race, Carly Fiorina, reported raising $1.1 million and loaning her campaign an additional $2.5 million.

The DeVore campaign argues that it's been able to do more with less, by keeping the race a dead heat despite Fiorina's higher spending. According to the DeVore campaign, he has spent $352,000, compared to $830,000 spent by Fiorina.

Chuck DeVore has been a proven failure in fundraising this campaign. Fiorina has only been a candidate a few months and has already outraised him almost two to 1.

Sure, you know Chuck DeVore as the conservative GOP Senate candidate from Orange County. But Chuck D from the OC is nothing if not a romantic. The other day he and his wife Diane Tweeted Happy 22nd Anniversary wishes to each other.

It was all going well until Chuck misspelled his wife's name. Twice. And the misspelling led us to question the veracity of Chuck's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina loaned $2.5 million of her own money to her campaign for the U.S. Senate, an indication she's willing to invest significant personal resources to unseat Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.

Fiorina also raised nearly $1.1 million in donations during her first two months in the race. After expenses, that gives her about $2.7 million going into 2010, according to her campaign.

Former South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson denies there’s a coup in the works to replace RNC Chairman Michael Steele, but refuses to say whether he’s been encouraged by Republican friends to make himself known in case the RNC chairman is ousted from office.

Dawson, who lost to Steele by only 14 votes to lead the RNC last year, raised eyebrows with news that he will travel to the committee’s winter meeting in Hawaii on Jan. 25 — where Steele could face reprimand by committee members — as a substitute for South Carolina’s chairwoman.

Republicans have blamed Steele for overshadowing last week’s news of high-profile Democratic retirements with comments that the GOP would not win back the House. Steele has also come under fire recently for giving paid speeches and for low fundraising numbers.
