  • But Steven Lubet of Northwestern University said no recusal was required. “Ms. Fiorina’s connection to the case was far too remote to trigger the disqualification statute,” the law professor said.

Dillon and Cannon report that Lerach wanted to raise the alleged conflict as part of a further appeal but that his law partner, Melvyn Weiss, quashed the idea. “If we do, we’ll trigger a firestorm of resentment from judges,” Weiss said, adding that Sneed had ruled favorably to the firm in other cases.

Neither Lerach nor Weiss are in much of a position to be lecturing others on their ethical standards these days. After a long-running federal investigation, both men pled guilty to obstructing justice by concealing secret arrangements to pay legal fees to plaintiffs in securities cases.

  • John Edwards will soon be indicted by a federal grand jury, the National Enquirer reports.

The tabloid has basically owned the Edwards scandal beat since it first reported his affair with Rielle Hunter. The pending indicted, they report, will stem from an improper use of campaign funds to pay Hunter.

And in a soap opera twist, Elizabeth Edwards may in fact testify against her estranged husband.

  • Sen. Tom Harkin told POLITICO that Senate Democratic leaders have decided to go the reconciliation route. The House, he said, will first pass the Senate bill after Senate leaders demonstrate to House leaders that they have the votes to pass reconciliation in the Senate.

Harkin made the comments after a meeting in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office including Harkin and Sens. Baucus, Dodd, Durbin, Schumer and Murray.

When asked whether the leaders had made the decision, Durbin said: "We are moving ahead with a version of the health care reform bill that we believe has a good chance of passing both the House and the Senate."

He then put the onus on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to signal whether she can provide enough votes to pass the Senate bill, followed by a package of fixes through reconciliation.

And, the Democrats will OWN Obamacare

  • Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he's obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson's brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

alarian600 CA Sen: What Does Tom Campbell Have to Say About Sami Al Arian?
Florida Leadership Council Ad against Betty Castor who was running for Florida Senate

As Jennifer Rubin says Tom Cambell is struggling to explain his association.

Tom Campbell is struggling to explain his association with Sami Al-Arian, a convicted terrorist from whom he
accepted campaign money and who he defended when Al-Arian was canned by the University of South Florida. (Both these actions occurred before Al-Arian’s conviction.) He’s not the only politician who has struggled
with this. In 2004 Betty Castor ran for the Senate in Florida. Her tenure as president of  that same university and her handling of Al-Arian made for campaign fodder.

Yes, these are the type of ads that Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore will be running against Tom Campbell.

Why, you ask?

Tom Campbell took the money and now is giving lame excuses. Shame on him.

0303103633091 Day By Day March 3, 2010 Batter Up!

Day By Day by Chris Muir

What do you expect from President Obama. He has been bought and paid for by organized labor and specifically the SEIU who represents a good many government employees.
The White House announced on Friday, February 26th, Obama’s appointment of members to the Bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform:  David Cote, Ann Fudge, Alice Rivlin, and  Andy Stern.  That’s correct; Obama has appointed left wing thug and  controversial head of the SEIU (Service Employees International Union)  to his new commission of fiscal responsibility and reform.  Andy Stern  is the antithesis of fiscal responsibility and reform.  At a time when  the economy is in dire straits, SEIU-United Health Worker members in  California alone earn double the national average even though California’s economy is probably one of the worst in the entire country and they will continue to earn raises.

Stern is the progressive, anti-business, anti-American  left wing extremist who deserves no place in the White House (although  he’s been Obama’s most prolific visitor since taking office).  In September 2009, Stern (who is closely  associated with ACORN) denounced anyone who questioned federal funding  for ACORN by calling them liars, anti-American and right wing  extremists.  In reality, taxpayers across the country were concerned about their hard earned tax dollars paying for yet another corrupt  organization.  Of course, the MSM neglected to report on this but you can see a full report about his lunatic rant here.

Pay back time for Obama and it is corrupt as well as disgusting.

Union THUG indeed.

  • White House officials tell ABC News that in his remarks tomorrow President Obama will indicate a willingness to work with Republicans on some issue to get a health care reform bill passed but will suggest that if it is necessary, Democrats will use the controversial "reconciliation" rules requiring only 51 Senate votes to pass the "fix" to the Senate bill, as opposed to the 60 votes to stop a filibuster and proceed to a vote on a bill.

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have been awaiting the president’s remarks direction on how health care reform will proceed.

In his remarks, scheduled to be at the White House, the president will paint a picture of what he will say will happen without a health care reform bill – skyrocketing premiums, everyone at the mercy of the insurance industry as recently seen with the 39% premium increases proposed by Anthem Blue Cross in California.

  • Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) Tuesday derided as "a joke" a bipartisan proposal being crafted by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), and John Kerry (D-Mass.) to address climate change since it does not spell out what to do with toxic waste that would be generated by proposed new nuclear plants.

"There's no nuclear power, there's no recycling, there's no storage," McCain said. "It's a joke when there's no site recycling and there's no storage. Nuclear power is not viable without recycling and without storage. Period."

McCain is right on this one….

  • Obviously, I'd prefer a strong conservative Republican over a moderate liberal Democrat as the next senator from California. But Mickey Kaus would provide the sort of iconoclasm the Democratic party desperately needs, particularly in California. If more Democrats were as empirical and tough-minded as Mickey, the country and the state would be in a lot better shape. I'm reminded that WFB supported tough-minded Democrat Joe Lieberman over squishy Republican Lowell Weicker on similar grounds. Still, I hardly think what Mickey needs to win in a Democratic primary is full-throated support from the likes of me, or National Review. (There's a story about Lyndon Johnson begging The New Republic to stop praising him and start attacking him because in Texas, praise from The New Republic was less than helpful). So, I'm fully prepared to attack Kaus's outrageous, left-wing vanity run to be the next left-wing looney bird from Hollyweird!

ariannasparty029thumb06 CA Sen: Mickey Kaus to Challenge Senator Barbara Boxer in Democrat Primary?

Blogger Mickey Kaus, Laurence O’Donnell and Michael Sonnenschein

Well, Mickey Kaus hasn’t filed yet and taking out papers means little for a protest candidacy unless they are actually filed.
Pioneering political blogger Mickey Kaus took out papers filed to run for U.S. Senate in California, he told LA Weekly. The Venice resident said he’ll run this year against Barbara Boxer for her seat. He said he took out filed papers at with the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters, although a spokeswoman there could not yet confirm the filing.

The Democrat has been centrist and even conservative on some of the issues on which Boxer has taken a more left-leaning stand, including immigration: He does not favor amnesty and favors a more restrictive national policy.

Of course, Boxer with over $6 million in campaign cash will crush Kaus. So, what is Mickey’s real motivation here?

But, whatever, gives Barbara Boxer campaign angst, is good enough for me.

0302107720834 Day By Day March 2, 2010 The Real Thing

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The REAL THING indeed.

Looks like President Obama should go back to THE REAL THING and stay away from the beer and cigarettes.

Barack Obama should not only try harder to kick his smoking habit, his team of doctors warned, but they also recommended ‘moderation of alcohol intake’.

It would seem the pressure of the U.S. presidency – and all those White House receptions – are taking their toll after the 48-year-old’s first medical checkup since winning the race to the White House.

The chief executive, who has endured an exhausting first year in the White House and year-long battles with congressional Republicans, should also eat better to lower his cholesterol, but was otherwise declared in excellent health and fit for duty.

Great, a stressed out President. Maybe if he and his cronies Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi stopped trying to RAM through Obamacare, he could revert to a less stressful life.

In any case, for these revelations to show up, there must be some cause for alarm by Obama’s physicians.
