    • Many of the cars that once stopped in the Home Depot parking lot to pick up day laborers to hang drywall or do landscaping now just drive on by.

Arizona's sweeping immigration bill allows police to arrest illegal immigrant day laborers seeking work on the street or anyone trying to hire them. It won't take effect until summer but it is already having an effect on the state's underground economy.

"Nobody wants to pick us up," Julio Loyola Diaz says in Spanish as he and dozens of other men wait under the shade of palo verde trees and lean against a low brick wall outside the east Phoenix home improvement store.

Many day laborers like Diaz say they will leave Arizona because of the law, which also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.

And, wasn't that the intent of the law?

    • Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln has fallen to her lowest levels of support yet in her bid for reelection, while her five top Republican challengers now pull over 50% support from Likely Voters in the state. Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter, who is challenging Lincoln in the Democratic Primary, runs only slightly stronger than she does.

    • Protest organizers said on Wednesday outrage over the Arizona law — which seeks to drive illegal immigrants out of the state bordering Mexico — has galvanized Latinos and would translate into a higher turnout for May Day rallies in more than 70 U.S. cities.

"The marches and demonstrations are going to be far more massive than they otherwise would have been," said Juan Jose Gutierrez, a Los Angeles rally organizer who runs an immigration assistance company.

The backlash began on Friday after Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law a measure that requires state and local police to determine a person's immigration status if there is "reasonable suspicion" they are undocumented. Critics say it is unconstitutional and opens the door to racial profiling.

Republican backers of the law say it is needed to curb crime in the desert state, which is a key corridor for drug and migrant smugglers from Mexico.

64 Per Cent of Arizona residents favor the law

    • On April 23, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law S.B. 1070, sponsored by state Sen. Russell Pearce. The law makes it a state crime for an alien to commit certain federal immigration violations while in Arizona. However, based on the hyperventilating reaction of the open-borders left, one would think Arizona had constructed a police state.

    • SARAH PALIN, FORMER ALASKA GOVERNOR: Well, thankfully, Byron York — he hit the nail on the head in summarizing what this law really is about. There is no ability or opportunity in there for the racial profiling.

And shame on the lame stream media again for turning this into something that it is not. Governor Jan Brewer did what she had to do as the CEO of that state. To help protect the citizens of her state she had to do what the federal government has refused to do, and that is help secure the borders.
I think it's shameful, too, that the Obama administration has allowed, too, this to become more of a racial issue by perpetuating this myth that racial profiling is a part of this law.

      Absolutely correct.

    • Chuck DeVore has joined the club of U.S. Senate candidates with a 2008 presidential candidate in their corner.

The Irvine assemblyman announced today that 2008 GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, has endorsed his campaign for the GOP U.S. Senate primary.

Huckabee said DeVore earned the support of him and his political action committee because he will "work to bring some common sense back to Washington."

"Chuck DeVore has a clear pro-life record, with a 100% pro-life, pro-family rating from the Capitol Resource Institute in Sacramento and a 100% rating from the pro-life, conservative California Republican Assembly," Huckabee, who now has his own show on Fox News, said in a statement.

Probably won't make too much difference since DeVore lacks the funds to advertise. This is probably a response to the Susan B Anthony pro-life endorsement of Fiorina yesterday

    • "We have more accomplishments to run on than any Party in a long time," Kaine's expected to say.

** We've gone from recession to recovery.
** We've made more progress in the war on terror in the last eight months than was made in the preceding eight years.
** We've strengthened our relationships with our allies around the world.
**Two million people or more have jobs today who wouldn't have without the bold action taken by this President and Democrats in Congress.
** We have the first Latina and only the third woman ever on the Supreme Court.
** We're using science and fact in policy making instead of ideology and politics.
** We have the most transparent Administration in modern history, with tough ethics standards, and we are wringing the influence of special interests out of the policy making process.

    • A third of registered voters are inclined to reelect their representatives in Congress, the fewest since the Republican Party rode voter discontent to control of the House and Senate 16 years ago, according to a new ABC News-Washington Post poll.

Nearly six in 10 said they'll instead look for someone new come the fall elections.

The impact on congressional races is uncertain, and the finding may chill incumbents of all stripes. But the dynamic does have a partisan cast: Republicans and swing-voting independents alike are far more likely than Democrats to be looking for change in Congress.

The finding is one of a variety of challenges for President Obama and his party in the current political climate, ranging from the tactical, such as weak support among senior citizens, to the thematic, including long-running economic anxiety and the hazardous big-government label he now wears.

Day By Day April 28, 2010 – Weapon of Choice

Day By Day by Chris Muir

    Agreed, Chris.

American voter awareness and sunlight is the best antiseptic for the Saul Alinsky trained LEFT. Since the explosion of the blogs beginning during the 2004 Presidential election cycle, the LEFT has manipulated, ridiculed and demonized the RIGHT and the GOP on the internet. And, they have been successful – overthrowing Republican majorities in the Congress and electing Barack Obama.

But, the RIGHT has figured it out. When a more balanced debate on the issues is presented to the American voting public (and when they see what the Democrats REALLY mean), a shift has occurred. How much of a shift will be realized over the summer and in the November midterm Congressional elections.

You can say when Americans are presented with the issues, ideas and facts the DEMOCRAT LEFT loses the argument.
