    • The House Ethics Committee on Thursday cleared Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Long Beach) in her dealings with a bank that cancelled the sale of a foreclosed home she owns in Sacramento.

The bipartisan panel unanimously found that Richardson “did not receive an improper gift or other benefit'' when Washington Mutual placed a hold on the sale.

But the committee's 87-page report brought new attention, in an election year, to the financial affairs of the congresswoman with a history of problems making her house payments, defaulting on three different houses, including the Sacramento house that had become rundown.

    • July 1, 2010 is finally here – and we all know what that means: The first ObamaCare tax starts today.

Nationwide, all tanning salons will be required to pay a 10 percent tax on the services that they provide. The Examiner points out the key elements of the tax, including the facts that tanning salons are personally on-the-hook for failure to levy the tax on customers and that salons in physical fitness facilities are somehow exempt from paying.

30 million Americans use tanning beds each year and the National Federation of Independent Business estimates that small tanning shops will “spend an average of more than $74 an hour to comply with federal tax paperwork burdens.”

      Great – it has started.

Wonder how many jobs it will kill?

    • By an average 10 percentage-point margin since March, 45% to 35%, independent registered voters have consistently preferred the Republican to the Democrat when asked which congressional candidate they would vote for in their district. Independents' preference for Republicans has been generally consistent over this time, with the gap in favor of Republicans increasing slightly since March, from 8 to 12 points.

This trend may very well swing Barbara Boxer out of office in California and the GOP into the US Senate majority

    • President Obama today called for a "practical, common sense" immigration system that will help the U.S. economy and maintain America's immigrant tradition — and he put the pressure on Republicans to get it through Congress.

"Reform that brings accountability to our immigration system cannot pass without Republican votes," Obama said in his first major immigration speech as president . "That is the political and mathematical reality."

Video: Nancy Pelosi Says Unemployment Checks Fastest Way to Create Jobs

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi:”It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name.”

Has the Speaker lost her frakking mind?

Unemployment benefits are creating jobs faster than practically any other program, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday.

Talking to reporters, the House speaker was defending a jobless benefits extension against those who say it gives recipients little incentive to work. By her reasoning, those checks are helping give somebody a job.

“It injects demand into the economy,” Pelosi said, arguing that when families have money to spend it keeps the economy churning. “It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name.”

Pelosi said the aid has the “double benefit” of helping those who lost their jobs and acting as a “job creator” on the side.

“It’s impossible to think of a situation where we would have a country that would say we’re not going to have unemployment benefits,” Pelosi said.

Democrats have been trying for more than a month to pass a bill extending jobless benefits to more than 1 million people. Currently, jobless benefits last nearly two years — up to 26 weeks paid by state treasuries with federal help for up to an additional 73 weeks.

Of course, those workers could be sending a lot more money into the economy if they had jobs since unemployment benefits generally do not cover the entire cost of lost wages.

The counterintuitive statement drew jeers from Republicans, who claim Democrats can’t figure out any way to tackle the economic slump that doesn’t involve spending massive amounts of taxpayer money.

These statements are beyond belief. She is almost as convincing as Slow Joe Biden.

No wonder the economy is in the shitter.

Day By Day July 1, 2010 – The Tab

Day By Day by Chris Muir

President Obama today will give “lip service” to the problem of illegal immigration. After having ignored border issues for the entirety of his presidency, I am positive he will blame corporate employers who exploit the law and do not pay their “fair” share.

    Some policy?

    The Obama blame game.

There can be no illegal immigration reform until the Mexico – USA border is secured. I mean if America can send 100K plus troops to Iraq and Afghanistan what is so hard with sending 10K to Arizona, New Mexicao and Texas?

Now, there is a solution and I did not even have to fire up the teleprompter.
