    • “I've been really, really disappointed by some of these endorsements and some of the things she's done,” former Marine Sgt. Jesse Kelly said at a small gathering videotaped by former Kelly supporter and Tucson tea party activist Robert Mayer. “She’s got a lot of rehab on her image to do because we need independents to win it, and you don’t need to be less conservative to win independents, but you can’t have your image destroyed, and she needs to rehab that.
Kelly, now a project manager at a construction company, is running against GOP state Sen. Jonathan Paton for the right to challenge Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in November.

Paton immediately slammed Kelly for his remarks. “Jesse sounds more like Keith Olbermann or Joy Behar than a Republican candidate for Congress,” Paton spokesman Daniel Scarpinato said, referring to the two outspoken, liberal talk show hosts.

    • Chances are that Mr. Obama will try to avoid the gathering political storm by pledging, with all apparent solemnity, to obey the court. But Mr. Obama opposed gay marriage during the 2008 campaign, and when the issue moves up through the federal courts, his Justice Department will have to decide whether to support the many states that agreed with him.

His Supreme Court appointees, Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, will have to vote on gay marriage in the next few years. And when opponents of gay marriage seek to reverse unfavorable court decisions, as they inevitably will, every member of Congress will have to go on the record regarding whether to send the Federal Marriage Amendment, introduced in 2004 to define marriage as between one man and one woman, to the states for ratification.

This WILL become an electoral wedge issue should SCOTUS approve gay marriage

    • Even some who support same-sex marriage worry that, in striking down California's voter-approved proposition defining marriage as between one man and one woman, U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker went too far. They are right — and not the only ones who should be concerned. Walker's ruling is indefensible as a matter of law wholly apart from its result.

By refusing to acknowledge binding Supreme Court precedent, substantial evidence produced at trial that was contrary to the holding and plain common sense, the ruling exhibits none of the requirements of a traditional decision. This opinion is arbitrary and capricious, and its alarming legal methodology and overtly policy-driven tenor are too extreme to stand.

    • There's a new argument emerging among supporters of the Ground Zero mosque. Distressed by President Obama's waffling on the issue, they're calling on former President George W. Bush to announce his support for the project, because in this case Bush understands better than Obama the connection between the war on terror and the larger question of America's relationship with Islam. It's an extraordinary change of position for commentators who long argued that Bush had done grievous harm to America's image in the Muslim world and that Obama represented a fresh start for the United States. Nevertheless, they are now seeing a different side of the former president.

    • All this traffic angst was stirred up by street closures as the president made his way from the Beverly Hilton hotel to the Hancock Park home of "West Wing" and "ER" producer John Wells to raise $1 million for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Frustrated motorists took to websites — including that of the Los Angeles Times — to vent.

"If you want an investigation, start with John Wells and everyone at his fundraiser who thought this was a good idea," wrote one man on The Times' website. "Yes, I understand that the actions yesterday were at the Secret Service's direction, but you'd think the president should know by now that when he travels, this is what happens. He could have easily said no or done it at a hotel near the airport. All of that yesterday for a million bucks, just phenomenally inconsiderate."

But, couldn't he helicopter to Hancock Park?

CA-Sen: Arizona GOP Candidate Disses Sarah Palin and Carly Fiorina For Selling Out Principles

At a fundraiser meet and greet in East Tucson. Jesse Kelly is asked if Sarah Palin should run for president given her endorsement of John McCain. What follows is Jesse Kelly explaining his “disappointment” in Sarah.

The guy is obviously an idiot.

If you watched the clips carefully you hear Mr. Kelly express his disappointment in Governor Palin for choosing to get behind candidates that will, in his words, “sell our principle’s down the river.” He then goes on to smear Governor Palin by suggesting that her motives for choosing these candidates are driven by selfish political gain.

By the way, with Carly Fiorina leading Far Left Senator Barbara Boxer, does anyone REALLY think that little known and underfunded Chuck DeVore would be in a better position than Carly?

    Answer: Nobody

It’s as mild a knock on Palin as you can get, though: He really likes her but he can’t stomach the Fiorina endorsement, even though for the moment Carly’s nomination looks like it’ll pay huge dividends for the GOP. (Anyone seriously believe the more right-wing, less well funded Chuck DeVore would fare as well in a California general election?) What you’re seeing here, I think, is the downside to Palin’s most remarkable talent — convincing her most devoted supporters that she’s not actually a politician but rather some sort of avatar of conservatism and guileless authenticity for whom self-interest and strategy never enter the equation. She bet on Fiorina because she
thought Fiorina could win, because it helps her brand of supporting conservative women, and, perhaps, because backing a perceived moderate might help to soften her own media-driven image as some sort of right-of-Buchanan Bircher/theocrat hybrid. Kelly thinks she should have backed DeVore because, well, he was the “true conservative” in the race and that’s all that matters, even though it wasn’t all that matters to Palin.

Day By Day August 18, 2010 – Monologues

Day By Day by Chris Muir

Speaking about monologues, Chris, did you hear what Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said about the New York Mosque FLAP?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, called for an investigation of those who are protesting the building of the GroundZ ero Mosque on Tuesday. She told San Francisco’s KCBS radio:

    AUDIO

“There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque is being funded,” she said. “How is this
being ginned up that here we are talking about
Treasure Island, something we’ve been working on for decades, something of great interest to our community as we go forward to an election about the
future of our country and two of the first three questions are about a zoning issue in New York City.”
    (h/t Kristinn)

Calls to investigate the funding for those proposing the $100 million “Cordoba House” have fallen on deaf ears, though, as New York’s Mayor Mike Bloomberg has described such an investigation as “un-American.”

Ms. Pelosi called the Ground Zero mosque an “urban development decision” for New Yorkers to work through. Her remarks happened on the heels of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, parting ways with President Barack Obama on the issue. Mr. Reid suggested the mosque should be built somewhere else.

In the meantime, Ms. Pelosi is hitting the ball back to New Yorkers to deal with.

“I think everybody respects the right of everyone in the country to express their religious beliefs. ..The decision, though, as to how to go forward in New York, is up to New York,” Ms. Pelosi explained. “I look
to my colleagues in New York. Some of them have different views on the subject. It’s up to them to work it out.”

Of course, when the FLAP hit the fan, Pelosi walked back or should we say clarified her statements.

“The freedom of religion is a Constitutional right.  Where a place of worship is located is a local decision.

“I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that ‘We agree with the ADL that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center.  At the same time, we should also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.’

“For all of those expressing concern about the 9/11 families, we call upon them to join us in support of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act when Congress returns in September.”

“I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that ‘We agree with the ADL that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center.  At the same time, we should
also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.’

“For all of those expressing concern about the 9/11 families, we call upon them to join us in support of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act when Congress returns in September.”

OK, so Pelosi, like Obama, look like idiots involving themselves in a matter over which they have little or no control, except for beating their gums. When will they speak up for New Yorkers and other Americans who adamantly oppose this Mosque?

    Answer: NEVER
