You don’t stop that agenda by nominating an O’Donnell in Delaware and turning a Senate seat from safe Republican to safe Democratic.
If DeMint and Palin want to show that helping O’Donnell over the top — she won late and by six points — wasn’t a capricious spreading of fairy dust, perhaps they should go to Delaware now and get her elected to the Senate.
You made it possible. Now make it happen. I would be happy to be proved wrong about O’Donnell’s electability — I want Republicans to win that 51st seat. Stay in Delaware and show us you were right. The beaches are said to be lovely in the fall.
In a surprising outcome, Indiana Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) was announced this afternoon as the preferred 2012 Republican presidential nominee among social conservatives in a Values Voters Summit straw poll.
Pence squeezed by in a small margin against former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee — last year's winner by a landslide — earning 170 votes out of 723 cast over two days.
"I think Congressman Pence gave an outstanding speech last night when he spoke, but he has also been providing more crucial leadership… among social conservatives and, really, conservatives in general," said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, which put on the event.

A new generation of Republican POLS are starting to rise.
The simple truth is that “[t]here are millions of Americans,” as one of the Plaintiffs’ own expert witnesses has acknowledged, “who believe in equal rights for gays and lesbians … but who draw the line at marriage.” M.V. LEE BADGETT, WHEN GAY PEOPLE GET MARRIED 175 (2009) (ER1351) (quoting Rabbi Michael Lerner). And the people of California, 44 other states, and the vast majority of countries throughout the world continue to draw the line at marriage because that institution continues to serve a vital societal interest that is equally ubiquitous—to channel potentially procreative sexual relationships into enduring, stable unions for the sake of responsibly producing and raising the next generation.

The standing issue may reset the entire district court decision
The political eyes of the nation and world will be watching Sarah Palin’s scheduled appearance in Iowa tonight for signals about her plans.
More than 50 news media organizations, from as far away as London, plan to cover the Republican Party’s biggest celebrity when she headlines the Iowa Republicans’ marquee fundraiser in Des Moines. It’s her first appearance in Iowa as a 2012 presidential prospect.
But there is little about Palin’s visit to the leadoff caucus state to suggest whether the 2008 vice presidential nominee is weighing a campaign for president.
When Sarah decides she will run there will be a full court press and a social media storm. For now, as I have said before, she will wait and see just how vulnerable President Obama is before committing to a 2012 Presidential campaign.
Plus, we will see how many of her endorsed POLS win seats in the next Congress.
In the meantime, Sarah will maintain a high profile with a new book and Fox News commentary.
Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News “I would give it a shot” if the American people think she’s “the one.”
The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.
Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.
“If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot,” she said.
Government bureaucracy, Chris. This is how “Big Government” rolls.
Have you seen how well the City of Los Angeles has done with their $111 Million in Obama Economic Stimulus funds?
Two Los Angeles departments have received $111 million in federal stimulus funds yet have created only 55 jobs so far, according to a pair of reports issued Thursday by City Controller Wendy Greuel.
The reports conclude that the agencies, Public Works and Transportation, moved too slowly in spending the federal money, in part because of the time it takes to secure approval of government contracts. The two agencies plan to create or retain a combined 264 jobs once all the money is spent, according to the reports.
With unemployment above 12%, city officials should move more urgently to cut red tape and spend the money, Greuel said. “The process needs to be changed to make sure we get these projects out as quickly as possible,” she said.
Yeah, that is right, waste more of the money that has been allocated. Spend it more quickly. Geeeez……
Remember, this is how “Big Government” rolls: $2 Million per job. Previous:
Translation: Knowing how much Democrats hate Palin, it’d be silly to hand them a club in a state as blue as Delaware by appearing there frequently. If anything, it’d probably do more to alienate pro-Castle fencesitters, who likely blame her for Castle’s defeat, than to fire up Christine supporters who are already fired up. Krauthammer knows that, of course, but he’s making a point here about true belief in “true conservative.” If demographics don’t matter and it’s just a matter of preaching the right-wing gospel to convert the liberal heathens, let’s send our best preachers down there and let it rip. What could go wrong?

They won't go for obvious reasons. But, they will be called out on it.
The following Democrats have come out in support of extending all of the George W. Bush-era tax cuts. A full extension of the tax cuts would include those individuals making more than $200,000 and families making more than $250,000. This list will be updated as more members make their position known.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday renewed her pledge to pass an extension of the Bush tax cuts for the middle class, but now she’s leaving the door open to extending the tax cuts for upper-income Americans.
The California Democrat, speaking in the same room House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) appeared in earlier in the day, said that the “only thing I can tell you is the tax cuts for the middle class will be extended this Congress,” leaving open the possibility that cuts for people making more than $250,000 could be extended at some point, too.

Raising taxes in time of this recession is idiotic.
Gay rights advocates went on high alert Thursday afternoon after Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), a key proponent of repealing the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, said that he believes Senate Republicans can kill the defense authorization bill containing the repeal if they choose to filibuster it – a step Sen. John McCain has already threatened to take.
“The question is whether the Senate leadership can negotiate an agreement with the Republicans that will allow the bill to come up and get them to feel that they can introduce amendments that they want to introduce as well,” Lieberman said in an interview with Kerry Eleveld of the Advocate, a web site and magazine for the gay community. “But until that happens, I don’t think the votes are there to break the filibuster, which would be a shame.”

Good for John McCain – if he stays the course.
But that was soooooo nine months ago. On Thursday, Shultz will co-host a "garden party" fundraiser in Woodside for Fiorina…who, after initially balking, supports Prop. 23 (She calls it "a Band-Aid fix and an imperfect solution.") Not to mention she opposed/drubbed George's pal Campbell in the U.S. Senate primary.
Oh, but Carly's Prop. 23 support was sooooo two weeks ago. Now, apparently George has no problem co-hosting a $5,000-$10,000-a-head sitdown at the home of mogul/philanthropist Tad Taube for someone who opposes one of his pet initiatives — AND who opposed his chosen candidate in the primary.
Yes, that's called being a good Republican Team Player, as there is no "i" in Shultz. But by our count, George has his left foot on red, his right hand on blue and his ear on yellow. Twister!

Politics makes strange bedfellows
Carly Fiorina’s latest video, a web ad for now but soon to be on television
It did not take long for Carly Fiorina to respond to Barbara Boxer’s attack ad that was released yesterday afternoon. The ad is based on the failure of Senator Boxer’s career in the U.S. Senate.
From the Fiorina campaign press release:
“For the last 28 years, Barbara Boxer has done nothing but foster a hostile work environment for our nation’s job creators and help destroy jobs across California. While the Golden State struggles under the weight of an unemployment rate that has soared to 12.3 percent and with more than 2 million Californians out of work, Barbara Boxer is living off the spoils of elected office, having watched her salary more than double, become a millionaire and paid her family members hundreds of thousands of dollars out of her special-interest-funded political committees,” said Carly for California Press Secretary Andrea Saul. “Her record of failure includes voting for more than $1 trillion in higher taxes and trillions more in wasteful spending. It’s clear that Barbara Boxer has completely failed to deliver results for the people of California, and that’s why voters will fire her come November 2.”
Let’s see: Senator Barbara Boxer has fiddled while the California economy has burned.
Former California Democrat Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown once called Boxer one of the luckiest, if not the luckiest POL he has seen.
