The latest PPP Presidential Poll in South Carolina has arrived.

Obama’s approval rating in the state is 44% with 52% of voters disapproving. Those numbers track pretty well with his nine point margin of defeat in 2008. He has the Democratic base firmly behind him at 89% approval. That’s no small feat in a state where traditionally Democrats have been unusually conservative but I guess you could also argue that’s a measure of the exodus of those conservative Democrats to the independent or Republican ranks. GOP voters unsurprisingly give Obama almost no support at all, with just 8% approving and 89% disapproving. And independents lean against Obama by a 39/54 spread.

And, how do the GOP candidates match up against the slighlty unpopular Obama in a RED state?

Favorability Vs. Unfavorability:

  • Gingrich – 32% Vs. 46%
  • Palin 34% Vs. 58%
  • Huckabee 48% Vs. 32%
  • Romney 42% Vs. 34%

Heads up against President Obama:

  • Obama leads 47% Vs. 41% Palin
  • Obama leads 44% Vs. 43% Gingrich
  • Huckabee leads Obama 49% Vs. 43%
  • Romney leads Obama 49% Vs. 42%

I am really surprised that Sarah Palin does worse than Romney in South Carolina. Of course, with Mike Huckabee out of the race, she may do better against Mitt Romney.

However, her poll numbers against the President at this time may give her pause. Why run and risk her brand when she can wait, and bide her time while making the big bucks on Fox News and other media gigs?

Then, there is favorite son, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint.

We also tested Jim DeMint against Obama. DeMint has very solid approval numbers with 49% of voters giving him good marks to just 34% who disapprove. He has near unanimous support from the Republican base and the favor of maybe a surprisingly high 19% of Democrats. But matched up with the President he leads only 47-45. That suggests a pretty high level of ambivalence about DeMint going for the White House from voters in the state, whether the cause of that is people not thinking he’s suited for the office or just that they’d like to see him serve out his Senate term.

The poll is here (Pdf).

“Uncloaking the Kochs” rally sponsored by Common Cause, AFFCE, The Ruckus Society, 350, Greenpeace, Code Pink, the Progessive Democrats of America, and others. Staged outside venue of Koch Brothers conference in Palm Springs.

Well, Common Cause who along with other Far Left organizations got caught with their UNHINGED conduct and now they have apologized.

Common Cause’s 40 year history of holding power accountable has been marked by a commitment to decency and civility – in public and private. So we are of course outraged to find that a few of those attending the events around a gathering Common Cause helped to organize Sunday near Palm Springs voiced hateful, narrow-minded sentiments to an interviewer in the crowd.

We condemn bigotry and hate speech in every form, even when it comes from those who fancy themselves as our friends.

Anyone who has attended a public event has encountered people whose ideas or acts misrepresented, even embarrassed, the gathering. Every sporting event has its share of “fans” whose boorish behavior on the sidelines makes a mockery of good sportsmanship; every political gathering has a crude sign-painter or epithet-spewing heckler.

We organized the “Uncloak the Kochs” panel discussion and took part in the rally afterwards to call public attention to the political power of Koch Industries and other corporations, their focus on expanding that power, and the dangers it presents to our democracy.

We’re committed to staging other forums and public events in the coming months to continue that effort. We urge all Americans of good will to join us.

Common Cause is a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization founded in 1970 by John Gardner as a vehicle for citizens to make their voices heard in the political process and to hold their elected leaders accountable to the public interest.

Uh Huh!

Sorry Common Cause, you knew what you were getting when you had the Far Left and Big Labor bus those folks in for your ASTROTURF – Moonbats who are far outside mainstream America.

Let’s just call a Moonbat a Moonbat shouldn’t we?

And, how about a personal apology to U.S Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas?

Danish Muhammad Cartoonist Kurt Westergaard

He was convicted of attempted terrorism and attempted murder.
A court on Thursday convicted a 29-year-old Somali man of attempted terrorism and attempted murder for attacking a Danish cartoonist who caricatured the Prophet Mohammed.

The court in the central Danish town of Aarhus ruled that Mohamed Geele not only tried to kill Kurt Westergaard when he broke into his home on January 1, 2010, wielding an axe and a knife, but that the attack also amounted to an act of terrorism.

“The court deems that the attempted murder of Kurt Westergaard in his own home, (of the man who) personifies the Mohammed cartoon affair, must be considered as an attempt to instil a heightened level of fear in the population and to destabilise the structures of society,” which falls under the Danish anti-terrorism law, judge Ingrid Thorsboe told the court.

The verdict was reached by a unanimous jury, she added

Westergaard, 75, had testified during last month’s trial that Geele rushed in screaming “You must die! You are going to Hell!”, forcing the cartoonist to escape “certain death” by rushing into a bathroom-turned-panic-room to call police.

The Somali had threatened police with his axe and knife before being shot twice and placed under arrest.

Geele insisted during the trial he was only trying to scare the cartoonist.

Now, this moron can rot in prison for the rest of his life. He will be sentenced tomorrow.

“I am an old, peaceful man and I am not vindictive but I am very satisfied,” Westergaard told The Associated Press. “I’ve never been in doubt that he was a terrorist who wanted to kill me. He was a holy warrior yelling and shouting as he was hammering the ax on the bathroom door.”

He could face life in prison, although such sentences are generally reduced to 16 years under Danish law. Prosecutors earlier had demanded that the defendant is (be) expelled from Denmark after serving the sentence.

This will not help President Obama as he prepares to run for re-election.
Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, increased to 9.8% at the end of January — up from 9.6% at the end of December, but down from 10.9% a year ago.

Some political pundits maintain that if the unemployment rate does not decrease to below 8% that Obama will NOT win re-election. So far, economic conditions do not look favorable for him.

Comparing Gallup’s unemployment and underemployment rates so far in 2011 with those for the same periods in 2010 provides something of a seasonally adjusted view of Gallup’s jobs data. Unemployment and underemployment are now at least one point below the rates of a year ago, reflecting modest improvement over the past year.

Still, Gallup’s measures paint a real-time picture of the current job realities on the ground: nearly 1 in 10 Americans in the U.S. workforce are unemployed, nearly one out of five are underemployed, and the nation’s overall hiring situation has not improved over the past four to six months.

Sarah Palin was EVEN offered the keynote closing address but she is a no go for the Conservative Political Action Conference.
After skipping the popular Conservative Political Action Conference for the past three years, Sarah Palin has once again turned down the invitation of CPAC officials to address the conference this year.

CPAC organizers invited Palin to deliver the closing-night keynote speech on Saturday Feb. 12, immediately following the announcement of the results of CPAC’s annual presidential straw poll,  but after several days of negotiations, she declined.

“We’re disappointed that she wasn’t able to make it this year,” American Conservative Union Chairman David Keene said through a spokesman on Thursday. He noted that Palin “expressed interest in wanting to come this year,” but said that it came down to “a scheduling issue.”

I think Sarah is afraid of what a third or fourth place finish in the Presidential Straw Poll would do to her brand. You know that Mitt Romney would bus folks in and spare no expense.

Sarah Palin does not need CPAC to be better known among conservatives, unlike Tim Pawlenty and Mitch Daniels. If her polling against President Obama continues in the doldrums, she will NOT run for President anyway.

Sarah, if not a candidate, can speak next year at CPAC and deliver the red meat.

The recreation yards in Camp Delta, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, include exercise equipment for the detainees. An adjoining area gives the detainees room to play soccer

I guess Awal Gul should have played soccer instead.
A 48-year-old suspected Taliban base commander dropped dead of an apparent heart attack after exercising on an elliptical machine inside Guantánamo’s most populous prison camp, the military said Thursday.

The dead man, Awal Gul, had been held at the prison camps in southeast Cuba since October 2002.

Gul was working out Tuesday night in a collective cellblock at the cement penitentiary-style building called Camp 6, said Navy Cmdr. Tamsen Reese, a prison camps spokeswoman.

“He went to go take a shower and apparently collapsed in the shower,” Reese said. “Detainees on the cellblock then assisted him in getting to the guard station.”

From there he was taken to a prison camp clinic, then to the Navy base hospital, some miles away, but could not save him despite what the commander called “extensive life saving measures.”

Hey, I thought President Obama was going to close Gitmo because of all of the torture going on there or something?

Now, the detainees will be restricted from using the elliptical – no doubt.

“Uncloaking the Kochs” rally sponsored by Common Cause, AFFCE, The Ruckus Society, 350, Greenpeace, Code Pink, the Progessive Democrats of America, and others. Staged outside venue of Koch Brothers conference in Palm Springs.

You remember the protest and all of the nonsense that preceded it.

Now, here is video from the UNHINGED crowd, most of them bussed in by Common Cause with the help of Big Labor.

We were then ushered outside to the parking lot across from the hotel in which the Koch brothers were holding a meeting, whereupon we were encouraged to yell at the building, decrying not only the Kochs, but Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia for their Citizens United ruling. Oh, and Fox News while we were at it.

We were joined by at least half a dozen busloads of public sector union members and common demonstrators from AFFCE, The Ruckus Society, 350, Greenpeace, Code Pink, and the Progressive Democrats of America, among others, without whose valuable contributions to the yelling, the rally would’ve been just a lousy bust. Video camera in hand, I purposely engaged them to get beyond their programmed talking points, only to find some rather colorful agenda items – particularly for Justice Thomas.

Well, what do you expect from the Far Left?

Moonbattery, of course.

But, the calls to have Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas hanged, stringed up, tortured and sent back to the fields are a little much, you think?. The other Justices were afforded SUCH civility too, but you will have to watch the video for the fun. No wonder the Far Left, wealthy sponsors of SUCH civil discourse want to remain anonymous. But, I will mention them anyway: George Soros (from whom Common Cause has received $2 million over the past eight years) Peter Lewis, John Doerr, Julian Robertson, Nicolas Berggruen, and many others.
