California Federation of Teachers Adopt Resolution of Support for Convicted Cop-Killer Mumia Abu-Jamal

Remember Daniel Faulkner. From Dec, 2006

The California Federation of Teachers is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the FAR LEFT.

Between negotiating for more benefits and teaching their students, the California Federation of Teachers has adopted a resolution of support for convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.

At the CFT’s 2011 Convention in late March, the delegates passed 30 resolutions, from solidifying support for anti-bullying legislation to supporting transitional kindergarten. Among the resolutions largely pertaining to education and collective bargaining rights was Resolution 19 – to “Reaffirm support for death row journalist.”

“Therefore, be it resolved, that the California Federation of Teachers reaffirm its support and demand that the courts consider the evidence of innocence of Mumia Abu-Jamal,” the Committee Report reads.

Mumia Abu-Jamal was a former member of the Black Panthers who was found guilty of murdering Philadelphia police officer Daniel J. Faulkner during a routine traffic stop in 1981. Abu-Jamal was subsequently sentenced to death.

His supporters, such as the California Federation of Teachers, argue that his trial was unfair and that he is a civil rights hero.

“Mumia Abu-Jamal has for decades as a journalist fought courageously against racism and police brutality and for the human rights of all people and has taken strong stands in support of working people involved in labor struggles and in support of well-funded, quality, public education,” the resolution reads.

Daniel Flynn, author of “Cop killer: How Mumia Abu-Jamal conned millions into believing he was framed” told The Daily Caller that Abu-Jamal was the poster-child for ending the death penalty…20 – 30 years ago.

“Somebody should tell the California Teachers Federation that this is over, he is in jail, he is going to stay there,” Flynn said. “You have numerous eyewitnesses saying Mumia did it. You had ballistic evidence – Mumia’s gun at the scene was consistent with the bullet used to kill Faulkner. Mumia admitted after the fact that he did it.”

Fred Glass, CFT spokesman, told TheDC that the even though the case is 30 years old, since Abu-Jamal is still going through appeals, the issue remains relevant.

    Relevant?

The sorry academic condition of the California K-8 public schools, and the poor graduation rate from California High schools are a bit more pressing than supporting a convicted copy-killer wouldn’t you think?

Now, the resolution will go to the national mother union, the American Federation of Teachers where they can make more sorry asses out of themselves.

    How despicable is this?

Nanny State Alert: Chicago Public School Bans Lunches Sent From Home

A Little Village Academy student cringes at an enchilada dish served at his school. Many students throw away their entrees uneaten and say they would rather bring food from home. The school, though, does not allow students to bring in their own lunches, unless they have a medical condition or a food allergy

Yes, it is all about healthful eating or is it the unions and school district that are enriching themselves?

Fernando Dominguez cut the figure of a young revolutionary leader during a recent lunch period at his elementary school.

“Who thinks the lunch is not good enough?” the seventh-grader shouted to his lunch mates in Spanish and English.

Dozens of hands flew in the air and fellow students shouted along: “We should bring our own lunch! We should bring our own lunch! We should bring our own lunch!”

Fernando waved his hand over the crowd and asked a visiting reporter: “Do you see the situation?”

At his public school, Little Village Academy on Chicago’s West Side, students are not allowed to pack lunches from home. Unless they have a medical excuse, they must eat the food served in the cafeteria.

Principal Elsa Carmona said her intention is to protect students from their own unhealthful food choices.

“Nutrition wise, it is better for the children to eat at the school,” Carmona said. “It’s about the nutrition and the excellent quality food that they are able to serve (in the lunchroom). It’s milk versus a Coke. But with allergies and any medical issue, of course, we would make an exception.”

Carmona said she created the policy six years ago after watching students bring “bottles of soda and flaming hot chips” on field trips for their lunch. Although she would not name any other schools that employ such practices, she said it was fairly common.

A Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman said she could not say how many schools prohibit packed lunches and that decision is left to the judgment of the principals.

“While there is no formal policy, principals use common sense judgment based on their individual school environments,” Monique Bond wrote in an email. “In this case, this principal is encouraging the healthier choices and attempting to make an impact that extends beyond the classroom.”

Any school that bans homemade lunches also puts more money in the pockets of the district’s food provider, Chartwells-Thompson. The federal government pays the district for each free or reduced-price lunch taken, and the caterer receives a set fee from the district per lunch.

At Little Village, most students must take the meals served in the cafeteria or go hungry or both. During a recent visit to the school, dozens of students took the lunch but threw most of it in the garbage uneaten. Though CPS has improved the nutritional quality of its meals this year, it also has seen a drop-off in meal participation among students, many of whom say the food tastes bad.

“Some of the kids don’t like the food they give at our school for lunch or breakfast,” said Little Village parent Erica Martinez. “So it would be a good idea if they could bring their lunch so they could at least eat something.”

The nanny state is now telling Chicago public school students what to eat because?

Their parents don’t know what is nutritious enough for their own child? Are they too stupid? Or, is it because the school principal knows what’s best?

Looking at the enchilada above, my cynical self tells me it is more about how the public school lunch program is enriched with more meals being consumed than any student’s healthy food choices.

    Am I wrong?

By the way, what is wrong with a PB and J sandwich?

President 2012 Florida Poll Watch: Romney 48% Vs. Obama 43% and Huckabee 49% Vs. Obama 44%

According to the latest Sachs/Mason-Dixon Poll.

President Obama Job Approval Vs. Disapproval:

    • Approve – 43%
    • Disapprove – 56%

President Obama Job Approval Vs. Disapproval among Independent Voters:

    • Approve – 34%
    • Disapprove – 56%

    For the Republican Nomination:

    • Mitt Romney – 23%
    • Mike Huckabee – 18%
    • Donald Trump – 13%
    • Newt Gingrich – 11%
    • Tim Pawlenty – 8%
    • Sarah Palin – 5%
    • Mitch Daniels – 4%
    • Ron Paul – 3%
    • Michele Bachmann – 1%

Most interesting here is that Tim Pawlenty is polling better than Sarah Palin and so is Donald Trump.

    Head to Head:

    • Romney 48% Vs. Obama 43%
    • Huckabee 49% Vs. Obama 44%
    • Trump 40% Vs. Obama 48%
    • Palin 39% Vs. Obama 51%

So, what does this all mean?

Looks like Mitt Romney who announced his exploratory Presidential committee today has a leg up in this race, especially if Mike Huckabee does not run.

President Obama who won Florida by 3 points in 2008 may have a tough time in 2012 unless the GOP were to nominate someone like Sarah Palin or Donald Trump.

The GOP needs to win Florida and its 29 electoral votes in order to beat the incumbent President Obama and chances look good that they will.

    • The 9th Circuit strikes down Arizona’s immigration law – I examine the concurring opinion in some detail for two reasons. First, preemption doctrine requires a close reading of the statute and analysis of its purpose. Objections to a state statute cannot be brushed off because the federal government is “not doing its job.” That may be true, but this is a political and not a legal argument. Second, if immigration exclusionists think they are going to get a more satisfactory analysis from judges than the one rendered by Judge Noonan they are, I would suggest, kidding themselves. Noonan’s decision made Swiss cheese of the state’s law, an indication of how difficult it is to skirt the federal government’s dominance in the field of foreign policy and border control.

A final observation: Conservatives are making a principled argument regarding Obamacare on the Constitution’s commerce clause in support of the federal system of government. That same structure that limits federal power also limits state power. They should be faithful to the words and intent of the Constitution in both situations.

      ======

If Americans are serious about illegal immigration here are the remedies:

      1. Enforce existing immigration laws, including enhanced employer's raids.

      2. Pass and implement E-Verify for employment.

      3. Secure the southern border with Mexico.

The states should forget about Arizona type laws and Americans should hold their poltician's feet to the fire on the above 3.

    • What Tim Pawlenty’s hiring of Nick Ayers means? – Chris Cillizza reports that presidential contender Tim Pawlenty has hired the former executive director of the Republican Governors Association as his campaign manager.

Pawlenty has been courting Nick Ayers for months. I am told by those involved in the process that Ayers, who served alongside Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour at the RGA, was waiting for Barbour, the candidate with whom he is closest, to make up his mind on whether to run. Now that Ayers has accepted a spot with Pawlenty, the chances of a Barbour presidential race have plunged. It may also be that Barbour’s extremely rocky start, overshadowed by his views on race, persuaded Ayers not to join him.

      =======

      Probably not much.

Tim Pawlenty may be a nice guy and all but is not very exciting. I would say about as exciting as Romney but without the personal fortune.

If the GOP is going to throw a "Bob Dole" type candidate out there it will be Romney and not Pawlenty.

Pawlenty for VP would really bore the GOP base.
