According to the latest PPP Poll.

Favorable Vs. Unfavorable:

  • Sarah Palin – 66% vs. 24%
  • Mitt Romney – 55% Vs. 25%
  • Newt Gingrich – 42% vs. 34%

GOP Primary Head to Head:

  • Romney – 21%
  • Palin – 16%
  • Cain – 12%
  • Gingrich – 12%
  • Bachmann – 10%
  • Paul – 9%
  • Pawlenty – 5%
  • Huntsman – 1%
  • Someone else/not sure – 15%

The entire poll is here.

Romney’s ahead in Ohio because he has a broad lead with voters describing themselves as ‘somewhat conservative,’ getting 27% with Gingrich coming in second at 14%. He’s also ahead with moderates at 22% to Palin’s 18%. Voters falling into the ‘very conservative’ camp continue to be a problem for him though. His favorability with them is a +37 spread at 61/24. That puts him a whooping 33 points below Palin’s standing with that same group, which is a +70 spread at 83/13.

Palin leads the horse race with those voters at 20% with Michele Bachmann at 15%, and Romney tying Cain for third at 13%. Maybe voters on the far right will split their votes enough that their lack of support doesn’t cost Romney the nomination but for now they look like they could be a big problem.

Ohio is a key battleground state and one that the GOP desperately needs to win the general election in the Electoral College. Sarah Palin is showing some signs of a resurgence in the polling now that Mike Huckabee has left the race. I suspect votes for Hermain Cain would go to Palin once she officially declares her candidacy.

Tim Pawlenty is trailing badly and Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann are looking more like an anti-Romney candidate (s).

Karl Rove on Fox News last night saying he believes Sarah WILL run

As readers know, I was once positive that Sarah Palin would run for President.

My opinion soon changed after her television show ended and the “Blood Libel” speech. Also, affecting my view was her polling, both favorable vs. unfavorable and head to head with GOP opponents and President Obama.

Now, I think with Mike Huckabee, and Mitch Daniels out of the race, her grand strategy was to wait to see who the GOP “Establishment” would put up to face Romney, and if there was none, then go head to head with Mitt.

Michele Bachmann has thrown a little wrinkle into the equation, but Palin has dispatched her run with her Memorial Day bus tour launch. This is not to say that Bachmann will not run, because she will. Bachmann and Palin will both do well in Iowa but then Bachmann will fade.

So, despite some pundits who seem to lean against a Sarah Palin campaign, I think she is a go.

Sarah Palin: “Game on, Mr. President.”

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The online communities will allow a more transparent view of the 2102 Presidential campaign. This is not to say that the parties and candidates will not try to manipulate the race. Obama has already added a staffer to monitor online negative comments.

I, somehow think, that Sarah Palin and her apparent campaign for the Presidency will NOT be in the conventional mode. I don’t know if it is a winning strategy against President Obama but it will certainly be controversial and entertaining.

cacensus Census Watch: California Latino Population Booming

I had posted on this previously here but here are more of the numbers.
California’s Latino population grew nearly three times as much as the state as a whole in the last decade, making the state home to more than a quarter of the nation’s Latinos, according to a new Census Bureau report.

While California’s population grew by 10 percent, the 2010 census found, the Latino growth was 27.6 percent, accounting for more than 90 percent of the state’s overall population gain. Latinos accounted for more than half of the nation’s growth during the decade and now are 16.3 percent of the U.S. population.

Latinos, the census said, now are 37.6 percent of all Californians, up more than five percentage points since 2000. That percentage is exactly the same as that of Texas, with both states trailing only New Mexico, at 46.3 percent.

Many states have seen higher Latino growth rates than California, some nearly 150 percent, such as Alabama and South Carolina.

Latinos now trail non-Latino whites in California by about four percentage points. They are expected to become the state’s largest ethnic group by mid-decade.

This will mean more Hispanic officeholders as the California Redistricting Commission draws new Legislative and Congressional boundaries based on the census. It will also mean the California GOP may shrink further into irrelevancy like New York, Massachusetts and Maryland since the Republican brand has been tarnished by the national party’s postion on illegal immigration.
