President 2012: Solar Plant Bankruptcy Now an Anti-Obama Campaign Ad

President Obama visited the solar company Solyndra on May 26, 2010 to tout his $535 million loan guarantee. On August 31, 2011, Solyndra announced it was filing for bankruptcy and laying off 1,100 employees
Signs of the failed Obama PORKULUS (Economic Stimulus and Debt) and economic policy.
The Republican National Committee wasted no time in turning Wednesday’s bankruptcy of Solyndra — the Fremont solar company touted by President Obama as the future of the U.S. economy — into a campaign web-only ad.
Not a lot of production values here – mainly a pasting together of clips from our pals at KTVU and CBS5 — but the effect is devastating. The company that Obama (and many other pols) have touted and dropped $535 million in federal tax dollars on, ain’t happening. At least not now.

Green jobs indeed. Looks like throwing taxpayer money down a rat hole to me.

    • SC Gov. Nikki Haley Calls on Obama to Disband the NLRB; Calls Obama ‘Cowardly’ – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley blasted President Obama and the National Labor Relations Board today. She called on President Obama to address the NLRB’s unprecedented lawsuit against Boeing during his jobs speech on Sept. 8. The South Carolina governor made the comments during a conference call with bloggers and journalists this morning.

Citing the fact that at least 1,000 jobs and the future of American aircraft manufacturing hang in the balance with the NLRB’s lawsuit against Boeing, Haley called the president’s silence on the issue “cowardly” and “unacceptable.” Haley also cited the fact that the current White House chief of staff and Commerce secretary both served on Boeing’s board at the time the South Carolina plant was approved, and demanded that he speak up and go on the record whether he agrees with the NLRB’s actions or not.

Gov. Haley said she will be the poster child for the right-to-work states as they face off against Big Labor and the Obama administration, and said that Obama is “carrying the unions’ water” in his actions, including the NLRB case. Calling the NLRB a “rogue agency that is doing the most un-American thing imaginable to an American company,” Haley repeatedly called out the NLRB for its refusal to even respond to Congressional inquiries about the Boeing case.

    • Governor Nikki Haley: To Be Silent Is Not Leadership – In a blogger conference call today, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley had a great idea for President Obama’s big “jobs” speech, which is scheduled for September 7… Whoops!  My bad!  Make that September 8!

At any rate, if Obama really wants to make a difference with this speech, he’ll follow Haley’s advice and announce, “I’m going to disband the National Labor Relations Board.”

It will admittedly take a little outside-the-box thinking for the President to see things Governor Haley’s way, but what’s the point of simply rehashing the same old tired, failed Big Government programs?  Obama will own the headlines, for at least a day or two, if he announces the dissolution and restraint of “rogue agencies with a bully mentality,” as Haley described the NLRB.  People will also be much more excited about future Obama speeches.  Right now, they’re all blending together into Max Headroom stutters, with each endlessly repeated talking point costing billions of dollars.

Governor Haley, of course, has good reasons for her dim view of the NLRB.  Their action against Boeing imperiled a thousand jobs in right-to-work South Carolina – which, as she points out, were not jobs being “stolen” from Washington State, where Boeing’s union workforce resides.  She said she was so taken aback by the unprecedented NLRB action against Boeing that she thought it was some kind of joke.

Haley said the anti-business actions of the Obama Administration have made the President “the biggest recruiter for other countries,” as American businesses conclude it’s safer to move their operations overseas.  She’s fed up with a chief executive who spends his days executing American jobs.  “How can we in this country have faith in someone who protects unions and federal agencies?” she asked.  “This president works for us.  He owes us answers.  He owes Boeing answers.”

    • Gov. Nikki Haley: NLRB should be disbanded – After all she has learned about the National Labor Relations Board through her fight on behalf of The Boeing Company, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has come to one conclusion: The agency should be disbanded.

“What you have is a rogue agency that is doing the most un-American thing imaginable to our businesses,” the governor said this morning on a conference call. “And as we are looking at President Obama to give his speech on jobs, the only thing I want to hear from him, the only thing the people of this country want to hear from him is that he’s going to disband the NLRB or get them to step down from a great American company that chose to do business in South Carolina as opposed to going overseas.”

The NLRB sued Boeing for its decision to build and open a non-union 787 Dreamliner assembly plant in North Charleston, S.C., claiming the choice was made in retaliation against the company’s unionized workforce in Everett, Wash. Never mind that Boeing has since added more than 1,000 jobs in South Carolina and more than 2,000 jobs in the state of Washington.

The South Carolina governor feels so strongly that the independent agency shouldn’t exist that she would even support a decision from the lone Republican member of the NLRB to step down. With the recent departure of NLRB chairman Wilma Leibman, such a resignation from Republican Brian Hayes would reduce the board to just two members — i.e., to less than a quorum.

“Anything that would disband the NRLB, I’d be the biggest cheerleader for,” Haley said.

    • Obama Labor Secretary Hilda Solis Buys Canadian-Built Car – To show her support for American workers, President Obama's labor secretary, Hilda Solis, has junked the standard black limo and purchased a new Chevrolet Equinox to ride around Washington in. The problem: the crossover SUV is built and assembled in Canada from parts also made in Canada.

Solis proudly arrived at a media breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor today in the shiny silver vehicle, which she has dubbed the "bullet." She was asked about why she traded the standard-issue limo for the SUV. "What better example could I set if I encouraged my staff to go and purchase and seek how we could acquire a vehicle that would for me would send a signal that we're for supporting our American workers, American-made products, fuel efficient as well," she told the Monitor's Dave Cook, who provided this video of her answer.

Good research at the Labor Department. NOT

    • Solis: Obama has been focused on jobs – Labor Secretary Hilda Solis on Wednesday rejected criticism from unions that President Obama has not focused on jobs.

Solis said Obama has “absolutely not” been nibbling around the edges in trying to fix the economy and instead had offered bold solutions to create jobs as the economy struggles. She highlighted Obama’s efforts to help the U.S. auto industry.

The Labor secretary was responding to criticism from AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, who last week said Obama has not offered bold enough solutions to fix the economy and has been distracted by Republican demands to bring down the national deficit.

  • Michele Bachmann,  President 2012,  Rick Perry

President 2012: Rick Perry Strikes Back at Michele Bachmann Ad

Texas Governor Rick Perry is answering Michele Bachmann’s Super PAC ad now airing in South Carolina.

    From the press release:

AUSTIN – A committee supporting Michele Bachmann has released a blatantly false ad that completely misrepresents Gov. Perry’s fiscally conservative record in Texas.
“Gov. Perry is a proven fiscal conservative, having cut taxes, signed six balanced budgets, and led Texas to become America’s top job-creating state,” said Ray Sullivan, RickPerry.org’s communications director. “Congresswoman Bachmann’s front-group ad is patently and provably false. Unlike Washington, the Texas budget is balanced, does not run deficits and limits spending, even as Texas added jobs and population in big numbers.”

FALSE CLAIM: “Rick Perry doubled spending in a decade.”

TRUTH: State spending – the non-federal dollars state lawmakers can control – is six percent lower under Gov. Perry than it was under the two-year budget in effect when he took office, adjusting for population growth and inflation. In unadjusted amounts, state spending is $80.5 billion for the 2012-13 biennium compared to $55.7 billion for the 2000-01 biennium. Texas’ population growth plus inflation since 2001 is 54 percent. The current Texas budget funds the state’s vital needs by operating within available revenues and providing tax cuts for small businesses. Gov. Perry is the only Texas governor since World War II to cut state (general revenue) spending.

FALSE CLAIM: “This year, Rick Perry is spending more money than the state takes in.”

TRUTH: Texas’ budget has been certified as balanced by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, with an estimated $6.5 billion remaining unspent in the state’s Rainy Day Fund. Every budget Gov. Perry has signed has been balanced.

FALSE CLAIM: “Covering his deficits with record borrowing.”

TRUTH: Texas does not have a deficit. The state’s recent sale of Tax and Revenue Anticipation Notes (TRANs) is cash-flow management tool that dates back to 1987. These notes are sold every fiscal year to manage cash flow and to provide up-front payments to public schools. They are repaid within the fiscal year with tax revenue that comes in after the upfront school payments are made. Texas earned the highest possible ratings in anticipation of this offering, receiving a rating of SP-1+ by Standard & Poor’s, MIG 1 by Moody’s Investors Service and F1+ by Fitch Inc. Texas’ net interest rate of .27 percent is down from last year’s rate of .34 percent, representing the state’s lowest net rate ever for these notes.

This ad began running yesterday, so Perry’s response is a little late.

But, it is apparent as we go into Labor Day weekend, this race is just getting started.

    Let the media fly…..

  • Humour,  Republican National Convention,  Sarah Palin

President 2012: Florida Adult Industry Ready for 2012 Republican National Convention?

    H/T Chip Hanlon

    Apparently so.

Following an extensive remodel, the Penthouse Club in Tampa, Fla., is finally ready for next summer’s Republican National Convention. Club operator DeWayne Levesque has installed two secluded VIP sections, which he hopes will help his club attract a bigger share of the 50,000 visitors expected to descend upon the city on Aug. 27 for four days of conservative politics and liberal partying. In addition to the club’s new carpets and furniture, the private rooms are designed to provide cover so that camera-shy donors, politicians and aides can enjoy the strippers without fear of getting caught, he said.

A few blocks from the Penthouse Club, another strip club owner, Joe Redner, said he has high hopes for what the convention means for business at his all-nude club, Mons Venus. “I’m guessing we’ll make five times as much in a night as we usually do,” Redner told HuffPost. “Republicans got plenty of money. They take it all from poor people,” he said.

The Huffington Post spin on this story is hilarious.

But, I am positive those clubs will get a work out next year.

Now, will Sarah Palin be a candidate?

  • Mitt Romney,  Polling,  President 2012,  Rick Perry

President 2012 Poll Watch: GOP Insiders Pick Romney Over Perry to Beat Obama

According to the latest National Journal Poll.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry may be surging in polls of Republican primary voters, but his party’s Insiders aren’t convinced he’d be the best general election candidate. More than two-thirds of Republican Insiders say Mitt Romney has a better chance than Perry of defeating President Obama in 2012, according to this week’s National Journal Political Insiders Poll.

This is the first poll in weeks that can please Mitt Romney. But, GOP Insiders do not vote in Iowa, South Carolina and Florida.

Many Republican Insiders acknowledged Perry’s appeal to conservatives but questioned his ability to win over independent voters. “Perry can fire up the base, but this election will be won in the middle, not on the fringes,” said one. Said another, “Having trouble ID-ing a single independent who’d vote for Perry.”

Democratic Insiders echoed that assessment by an even larger majority. “This election is sitting on a platter for Republicans if they do it right,” said one. “Romney is probably good enough. Perry will get drilled by independent voters and women.” Another quipped, “Rick Perry is all base and no swing.”

Insiders in both parties raised questions about Perry’s durability under the intense scrutiny of a presidential campaign. “As a conservative Republican, I love Rick Perry,” said one Republican Insider, who added “but as a campaign strategist, I know the degree to which a few self-reinforcing oppo-hits can devastate a candidate.” A Democratic Insider said plainly, “Perry’s mouth will do him in.”

  • Barack Obama,  Polling,  President 2012,  Rick Perry

President 2012 Poll Watch: Perry 44% Vs. Obama 41%

According to the latest Rasmussen Poll.

For the first time this year, Texas Governor Rick Perry leads President Obama in a national Election 2012 survey. Other Republican candidates trail the president by single digits.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows Perry picking up 44% of the vote while the president earns support from 41%. Given the margin of sampling error (+/- 3 percentage points) and the fact that the election is more than a year away, the race between the two men is effectively a toss-up. Just over a week ago, the president held a three-point advantage over Perry.

Rick Perry has vaulted ahead of the field and is now beating the incumbent President. President Obama is in trouble.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney currently trails the president by four percentage points, 43% to 39%. That’s a slight improvement for the Republican compared to a week ago. Earlier in the year, Romney held a one-point edge when matched against the president. Prior to today’s release, that was the only time a named Republican has held any kind of lead over President Obama. A Generic Republican currently leads the president 48% to 40%.

  • American Economy,  Polling,  Unemployment Rate

Poll Watch: U.S. Unemployment Increases in August – Underemployment Worsens

According to the latest Gallup Poll.

Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is at 9.1% at the end of August — up from 8.8% at the end of July.

This data further confirm Gallup’s mid-month prediction that the August unemployment rate that the government will report Friday will be higher than the 9.1% it reported in July — barring another sizable decline in the U.S. workforce or an unusual seasonal adjustment.

The percentage of part-time workers who want full-time work is at 9.4% at the end of August — up from 9.2% in mid-August and at the end of July.

    Underemployment Worsens

Underemployment, a measure that combines the percentage of workers who are unemployed with the percentage working part time but wanting full-time work, is 18.5% at the end of August — up from 18.0% at the end of July.

    The chart:

Remember no American President has been re-elected with an unemployment rate above 8 per cent, except for ronald Reagan where the trend was markedly toward more employment. Hence, this is why President Obama is giving a “JOBS” speech next Thursday.

While the dismal job situation is a negative for the economic outlook, unemployment is generally seen as a lagging indicator. Americans’ worries about potentially being laid off are much more of a leading indicator, and Americans are now worried about losing their jobs to the same degree they were in 2009. People are likely worried about their job situation both because their Economic Confidence is low, and because they fear their companies may be scaling back on hiring. When a large percentage of Americans are worried about their jobs, it does not bode well for consumer spending or the prospects for another recession.

  • Barack Obama,  Hilda Solis

Obama Labor Secretary Hilda Solis Buys Canadian-Built Car

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis speaks about employment situation and job creation in the U.S., ahead of Labor Day and the election season, Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at the National Press Club in Washington

The Obama Administration continues to show its incompetence.

To show her support for American workers, President Obama’s labor secretary, Hilda Solis, has junked the standard black limo and purchased a new Chevrolet Equinox to ride around Washington in. The problem: the crossover SUV is built and assembled in Canada from parts also made in Canada.

Solis proudly arrived at a media breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor today in the shiny silver vehicle, which she has dubbed the “bullet.” She was asked about why she traded the standard-issue limo for the SUV. “What better example could I set if I encouraged my staff to go and purchase and seek how we could acquire a vehicle that would for me would send a signal that we’re for supporting our American workers, American-made products, fuel efficient as well,” she told the Monitor’s Dave Cook, who provided this video of her answer.

Solis added that she was inspired to buy the Chevy because of the pride she saw in American auto workers during trips to U.S. car and truck plants. She said that she was wowed by “the pride that they take making our automobiles here in America.”

The car is made at two Canadian plants and has been so popular that General Motors has been hiring more workers in Canada to keep up with demand.

Obama Administration Cabinet Member’s cannot even do symbolism over substance right.

    Good Grief.
