Iran Focus: Iran says U.S., Israel ordered September 11 attacks
The Supreme Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps accused the Bush Administration and the Israeli security service Mossad of ordering the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington, DC.
“The events of September 11 were ordered by U.S. [officials] and Mossad so that they could carry out their strategy of pre-emption and warmongering and unipolarisation in order to dominate the Middle Eastâ€, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi told military commanders on Tuesday. His comments were reported by the state-run news agency ISNA.
Safavi sounds like the LEFTY SEPTEMBER 11 CONSPIRACY NUTTERS.
But, what is Iran and the Mullahs REALLY saying?
General Safavi said that Iran was the leading force of the “Islamic worldâ€. “The geographic heart of the Islamic world is in Mecca and Medina. But, the political heart of the Islamic world is in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei] is the flag-bearer of the front of Islamic awakening and the fronts of the awakening of third world nationsâ€, he said.
He said that Washington had been defeated in its strategy of “attacking Iraq, Afghanistan, and Lebanon†and creating a new order in the Middle East.
Iran views itself as the REGIONAL HEGEMON of the Middle East. Iran has won and the United States and Israel have been defeated.
Destabilization of American opinion and propaganda are the nature of Iran’s war against the United States and Israel. This is one part.
Khatami’s visit to the United States is another.
Manipulate the Western Media Cycle and make outlandish media claims like September 11 Conspiracy theories to undermine public support for the United States government is all part of the game of media warfare.
And one asks why the American State Department allowed the Iranian propaganda machine into the United States? If one says weakness.
They would be correct.

Flap, I utterly agree about the ridiculous theories attributing the 9/11 attacks to the US/Israel. It’s the result of a desperate desire to cram world events into any kind of mental box which can sit comfortably within those people’s mental closets. That kind of thinking is sadly all too common these days.
On the other hand, and without passing judgement, why shouldn’t Iran be the regional hegemon of the middle east? After all, they live there, and their regime is no less repressive than Saudi, Syria et al. Vicious, murderous and unpleasant, but probably less so than its immediate neighbour will be in about a year’s time.
Is it the God-given right of western nations to assume hegemony over barbarous states if we disapprove of their barbarous conduct? I thought that the American Revolution was a refutation of such ideas, and I’ve always regarded its results as the benchmark of democracy.
As far as Iran’s nuclear program goes, the Saudis would bite our hands off if a western nation was to offer them nuclear technology, for similar reasons to Tehran – regional dominance. Such is realpolitik.
Finally, it’s amusing to note that you object to Ahmadinejad’s purge of liberals from Iranian colleges, given the propensity of the American right for such notions.

Why not Iran as regional hegemon?
1. Iran’s government is run by a radical Muslim Theocracy run by the Iranian Mullahs who have the perverted view that all of us should be Shia Muslims or else.
2. Israel – And what does Iran wish to do with Israel? Wipe them off the face of the earth. Right.
3. Oil – Iran wishes in their global world of things Islamic wish to dominate the Saudi and Kuwaiti oil fields – and thus control the world oil market. You see the majority of Iranians are not Arabs and their Shia Islam is better than the Sunni Islam in Saudi Arabia.
4. Iran and its theocracy covet nuclear weapons which if obtained would destabilize the Middle East. Less countries that have nuclear weapon materials the better, right? Isn’t that the point of the NPT Treaty?
5. Saudi Arabia, Egypt nor Kuwait have expansive foreign aspirations.
