Mitt Romney Watch: Romney’s Wife Ann Has Donated to Planned Parenthood – Mitt’s Response

Politico: Say What?

Said Romney in Iowa yesterday when asked about his wife’s contribution to PlannedcParenthood: “Her positions are not terrible relevant to my campaign.”

First off, I assume he meant “terribly” and it was lost in the transcription or something.

Now, for two reasons this response is ineffective, if not damaging.

For one, how can Mitt use his wife in campaign commercials, bring her up to the podium at nearly every speech he gives and routinely cite their relationship only to dismiss (dis?) her views in such a cavalier fashion? I can hear other campaigns screaming “he can’t have it both ways” as I type this.

Secondly, this comment stands out like a sore thumb – a sore mitt, if you will – precisely because the former governor does fawn over his “sweetheart” so much. Why would he take one of his best assets and relegate her positions as irrelevant?

Wrong response……

Why doesn’t Mitt just gaffe-slap his wife again – right before Mother’s Day.

Telling any woman particularly YOUR WIFE that they are not important or relevant means trouble – like in sleeping on the couch for quite a while.

Oh Yeah! Mitt, remember that women now VOTE.

Update:

An interesting statement in light of this 2002 video:
