Rudy Giuliani Watch: Giuliani – McCain Ticket?

No

But I could see Rudy choosing McCain as Secretary of Defense or another Cabinet position.

    Rudy says:

“I happen to be a very big admirer of Sen. McCain and I can tell you quite honestly that if I weren’t running for president I would be here supporting him. If for some reason I made a decision not to run he’d be my candidate.”

That’s the Kiss of Death for Rudy, at least from this voter.

I was willing to consider him, until I read the above.

Guess we’d better get used to “Madam President”. sigh.

  • Flap

Don’t you think Rudy was JUST being cordial to a long time friend on the campaign trail?

Rudy will choose the VP candidate who will deliver the most votes – probably Condoleezza Rice or Governor Pawlenty of Minnesota. But it could be Huckabee.

    • Cactus Wren

That’s laying it on pretty thick for “just being cordial”, imo. What’s your opinion… Did Rudy mean what he said… or not?

It would be difficult for me to vote for any ticket with McCain on it. I have mixed emotions about the possibility of appointing him Secretary of Defense, and the thought of him heading Homeland Security gives me revolutionary thoughts.

I whole-heartedly support the War on Terror.
HOWEVER, I find it completely hypocritical for anyone to proclaim they believe in this fight while leaving our southern border unsecured.

  • Flap

The have campaigned with each other for many many years. Rudy is not choosing McCain.

But, tell me: Would you vote for Hillary or stay home if Rudy chose McCain?

Is it just the immigration issue or is it more?

  • Cactus Wren

You didn’t give me the courtesy of giving me your opinion on whether Rudy meant what he said or not regardubg McCain, when I asked for it…

    I don’t trust McCain.
I also believe that McCain has not acted in either his state’s or our country’s best interests when it comes to border security, …and that’s an understatement… so I would hope Rudy wouldn’t choose him for anything.

Actually, I can’t think of much McCain has done for Arizona. He seems to spend most of his time gadflying around the country. I doubt he’ll carry his own state if he’s still in the race come primary time.

Would I vote for Hillary? I can’t imagine that under any circumstance.
Would I not vote if Rudy chose McCain? That’s a distinct possibility.

    You asked:

Is it just the immigration issue or is it more?

Are you one of those who does not understand the difference between homeland security and immigration?

  • Flap

I don’t know if Rudy meant what he said. But, I can ask him for you. I believe he was being cordial.

McCain has been a great American, a so-so Republican and a lousy presidential candidate. He has accomplished alot in his career and I will not disparage that.

Are you one of those who does not understand the difference between homeland security and immigration?

You might want to read some of my illegal immigration posts and I think you will find your answer.

  • Cactus Wren

If you know Rudy well enough to ask him, then please do.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who would be interested in his response.

OK. I read as many of your posts as I could find.
From what I can tell, you are for border security and against illegal immigration. Am I correct?

What’s more important, is this: What is Rudy’s record on those two issues?

My question to you was valid.
I made no mention of immigration, legal or otherwise, and only spoke of border security. You morphed that into an immigration question. I’m wary of people who do that.

    Speaking of border security:
    I googled, but found nothing…
What is Rudy’s position on Ramos and Compean?
If you don’t know – then ask him that question, too, please.
…It’s another one he needs to answer.

  • Flap

    You are correct.

Rudy’s position on illegal immigration is his second committment. You can read about it here – plus I have a number of posts in my Rudy Giuliani archive.

Also, in the right side bar there is a search window where you can search flapsblog.

And, if you cannot find an answer just ask away.
