Senator Larry Craig Watch: News Conference Saturday – Will Craig Resign?
Senator Larry Craig will resign effective September 30 tomorrow according to GOP sources.
Idaho Gov. C.L. Butch Otter will appoint Idaho Lieutenant Governor James E. Risch to serve out the remainder of Larry Craig’s term. Senior Republican sources said Risch was the consensus choice after it was determined that the two members of Idaho’s Republican Congressional delegation – Mike Simpson and Bill Sali – would not be tabbed to replace Craig.
Flap missed the call for a resignation today. But, will Craig resign tomorrow or not?
Dan Whiting, Craig’s spokesman, said the senator would hold a news conference in Boise Saturday but would not say whether he will step down. Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter already appears to have settled on a successor: Lt. Gov. Jim Risch, according to several Republicans familiar with internal deliberations.
President Bush when asked today whether Craig should resign, walked off the stage not answering the question.
Is this a hint?
Senator Craig should resign and Idaho Governor Otter should immediately appoint a successor so that Idaho will have two functioning United States Senators after the Labor Day recess.
Stay tuned…….
