Senator Trent Lott to Retire By End of the Year

Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott of Miss., becomes teary-eyed on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, after speaking to reporters after the Senate confirmed Judge Leslie Southwick to the federal appeals court in Mississippi. Lott, the Senate’s No. 2 Republican, plans to resign his seat before the end of the year.

Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi, re-elected in 2006, will resign by the end of the year. GOP Governor Haley Barbour will appoint his successor until the 2008 election.

No reasons besides the initial BS were given.

Losing the Senate Majority, the top GOP Leadership spot and the bungling of the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina were probably sufficient enough to retire. Lott is 66.

Like Allah and MM, Flap will NOT miss Trent.
