American victory in the Cold War looks inevitable in hindsight. It didn’t seem that way in the Seventies. And, as Iran reminds us, the enduring legacy of the retreat from Vietnam was the emboldening of other enemies. The forces loosed in the Middle East bedevil to this day, in Iran, and in Lebanon, which Syria invaded shortly after the fall of Saigon and after its dictator had sneeringly told Henry Kissinger, “You’ve betrayed Vietnam. Someday you’re going to sell out Taiwan. And we’re going to be around when you get tired of Israel.”

Consequences for cutting and running from Iraq, you say?

Hell the Democrats just want to win the Presidency and control Congress – nothing more and nothing less.

Statue of former California Governor and Mayor of San Diego Pete Wilson will be on display on Horton Square, outside the NBC 7/39 Building on Broadway Circle, San Diego.

Can you believe this?

Protests over former San Diego Mayor, California United States Senator and Governor Pete Wilson’s privately funded statue?

The Nonsense:

During a recent San Diego City Council meeting, Enrique Morones, with the group Border Angels, said the statue promotes “hate.”

He chastised Wilson’s championing of Proposition 187, an initiative passed by voters in 1994 that would have denied services to illegal immigrants. The courts later ruled the initiative unconstitutional.
“Would the city of San Diego allow a Confederate flag in front of the Malcolm X Library?” Morones asked the council last month. “Would the city of San Diego allow a statue of Adolph Hitler in front of a Jewish temple? Then why would a Pete Wilson statue be in the heart of a city that is one-third Latino?”

Gay rights activists accuse Wilson of ignoring their community when he was mayor from 1971 to 1983 and during his tenure as governor.

Flap has known Pete Wilson since the early 1980′s having hosted a fund-raiser for the then Mayor in my home in Thousand Oaks. Pete is one of the nicest politicians Flap has had the opportunity to meet.

But, calling him a racist or anti-Gay is just Bull.

The dedication of the statue outside the NBC building at Horton Square, San Diego will be at 4 PM today.

Statue of former California Governor and Mayor of San Diego Pete Wilson will be on display on Horton Square, outside the NBC 7/39 Building on Broadway Circle, San Diego.

Immigrant Latino activists, calling Wilson “the founder of the pro-racist movement” for his support of Proposition 187 in 1994, vow to block the placement of a statue of former Governor and Mayor of San Diego on private land in downtown San Diego.

“Pete Wilson, to us and to many, represents the worst of the American spirit,” Enrique Morones, founder of the Border Angels group, told City Council members during a non-agenda public comment session at City Hall.

“You can’t separate what he did as mayor from what he did later in life.”

Right

And, all of the Californians (a majority Flap adds) who voted Proposition 187 into California law are racist too.

MORON Morones continues:

“I’m not saying he’s the same thing as Adolf Hitler,” Morones told a group of journalists outside the council’s chamber, “but to put up a statue in the heart of a city that was a Mexican city? A third of the city is Latino. There’s many of us, and many who are not Latino, who say ‘no’ to this type of a statue.”

Pete Wilson is against illegal immigration and this is the REAL FLAP.

The statue will be unveiled in a ceremony which Wilson will attend on August 25. Morones has threatened vandalism.
