Representative Robert Filner Watch: House Ethics Committee Slaps Filner on the Wrist Over Airport Assault
Representative Robert Filner D-California
Well, before the House of Representatives adjourned for the year the House Ethics Committee delivered a mild rebuke to California Democrat Representative Robert Filner.
The Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, which established an investigative subcommittee earlier this fall to look into an incident between the congressman and an airline employee, ruled that Filner “demonstrated poor judgment” when he got into an altercation with a United employee at Dulles airport over the summer.
Filner entered a so-called Alford plea to trespassing in November, days before he was scheduled to appear before a Virginia judge, meaning he acknowledged the evidence against him without officially admitting his guilt. He also wrote a letter apologizing to the airline employee and paid a $100 fine.
In light of those actions, the House ethics panel refrained from any further action.
The committee concluded, “Notwithstanding this determination, the investigative subcommittee agreed unanimously that Rep. Filner’s conduct demonstrated poor judgment on his part, and that he is responsible for creating a situation that implicated the reputation of the House of Representatives.”
Hell, if you or I would have assaulted an airport employee in this manner we would have been arrested, booked and sentenced to either jail, community service or both. But, Filner as a member of Congress gets away with a “slap on the wrist.”
No wonder the public has so little regard for the Congress – among other things, of course.
But, with the gerrymandered Congessional Districts in California, unless a well-heeled Democrat decides to challenge Filner next year in a primary election, he will be re-elected easily, despite being an asshole bully.

Representative Robert Filner Watch: Assault and Battery Details Come Out

Remember California Democrat Congressman Robert Filner who was charged with Assault and Battery in an altercation last August at Dulles International Airport?
Now, the details of his assault and battery on an airport emplyee have been released:
Rep. Bob Filner stormed into a United Airlines baggage office at Dulles International Airport, barged past other customers, screamed at employees and repeatedly pushed a female baggage worker, according to a criminal complaint.
Filner was served Monday with a summons for an Oct. 2 court hearing on the incident. The complaint was subsequently filed in Loudoun County, Va., General District Court and released Thursday.
Here is the text of criminal complaint against Rep. Bob Filner:
Mr. Robert Filner came storming into our baggage office demanding help with his delayed baggage. He barged in front of a line, interrupting our business with other passengers. He is screaming.
I tell him he needs to wait in line. He then begins to step behind our baggage counter. I now stand up and tell him he is not allowed back here and he needs to step back. I then put both of my arms out to the side blocking him from going any further.
I continue to insist that he leaves and wait in line. He continues to push past me, pushing on my arms. I then yell at him to “Get out of the office now.”
He again pushes through my arms wanting to get to our adjacent employee-only office. He wanted people in the back office to help him. I told him they were busy.
I said he needs to stop. He told me, “You can’t stop me.”
I said, “The police can.”
At this point I am yelling for co-workers to call the police. He gets past me into the back office yelling at other agents. He again pushes me out of the way near the doorway.
After hearing a co-worker on the phone with the (Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority) dispatcher Mr. Filner leaves the office.
**********
Filner faces an Oct. 2 hearing in Loudon County, Va., General District Court.
So, when will the APOLOGY be given?
Good grief. Talk about a first-class jerk who thinks because he is a United States Congressman that he does not have to conduct himself like a regular person.
Wonder what Representative Filner’s constituents in California think of his attitude?

Representative Robert Filner Watch: Filner to Address American Legion Convention

Remember California Democrat Congressman Robert Filner who was charged with Assault and Battery in an altercation last week at Dulles International Airport.
Filner is in Iraq now but will be returning to speak before the American Legion next week. Democrat Filner is the Chairman, Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, U.S. House of Representatives.
In the meantime, Fox News is reporting that this altercation at Dulles is not the ONLY brush-up Filner has had with the law.
Now the Copley News Service is reporting that Filner tried to bully his way into a California immigration detention facility four years ago and officers there called local police for assistance. A Justice Department incident report says Filner tried to push his way past immigration officers after being denied immediate access to a detainee. A supervisor quotes Filner as challenging detention officers by saying, “Are you going to stop me, big man? Are you going to shoot me? Are you going to arrest me?”
The supervisor adds that Filner also said, “I am a congressman and can do whatever I want.”
Is the incident at Dulles yet another Cynthia McKinney moment for Representative Filner?
Apparently so.
Flap looks forward to his explanation when he returns from Iraq.

Representative Robert Filner Watch: Filner Denies Assault and Battery as Ridiculous Charges
Representative Robert Filner D-California
Representative Filner is on his way to Iraq and his Congressional office issued the following statement:
“Congressman Bob Filner is on his way to Iraq, visiting our troops, and will have a full statement when he returns,” his office tells Roll Call. “Suffice it to say now, that the story that has appeared in the press is factually incorrect — and the charges are ridiculous.”
And here is the statement from Dulles Airport officials:
Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, Airports Authority police were called to the United Airlines bag claim office at Dulles for a report of an incident with a passenger regarding his baggage. The individual allegedly attempted to enter an area authorized for airline employees only, pushed aside the employee’s outstretched arm and refused to leave the area when asked by an airline employee.
When MWAA officers arrived a few minutes later, the man had left the office and was waiting in the area of a bag carousel. Officers interviewed him and witnesses and released him. Before the individual left the airport, officers advised him that the airline employee would be pursuing charges. The airline employee appeared before a Loudoun County magistrate later that evening and a summons was obtained charging Robert Filner (DOB 9/4/1942) with assault and battery, a Class 1 misdemeanor. Mr. Filner is scheduled to appear in Loudoun County General District Court on Oct. 2.
Being a Congressman does not entitle you to being an ASSHOLE to airport employees.
Flap is not Filner’s political consultant but it seems that he would have been better off politically if he had postponed his trip to Iraq and taken care of this business first.
Filner could start with an APOLOGY.

Sounds like Congressman Robert Filner had a Cynthia McKinney moment and remember what happened to her.

So far NO response from the California Congressman’s office.
An apology would be a START.
Update:
Fox News is reporting that the Representative Filner’s office has said that the charges are “ridiculous.”
