Alaska Senator Stevens, joined by Governor Sarah Palin, discuss initiatives aimed at solving the energy needs of Alaskans, July 2008.

Politcal payback can be so sweet. Now, Republican Represenative Don Young is openly promoting recently vindicated former Alaska U.S. Senator Ted Stevens to run against Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in 2010.

Now that the corruption case against former Sen. Ted Stevens has been dropped, Alaska Rep. Don Young wants Stevens to run for governor — a move that would set up a Republican primary between the veteran lawmaker and Sarah Palin, if she decides to seek a second term in 2010.

“Personally I’d like to see him run for governor, and that’s my personal feeling,” Young told the Alaska Public Radio Network on Thursday. “So, we’ll see what happens down the line. He probably won’t, but I think that would be a great way to cap off a great career as being the governor of the state of Alaska.”

Stevens will be 87 years old by the time the next governor takes office in January 2011.

Now, why would you suppose Representative Young would want an intraparty blood bath among former Republican colleagues?

Sarah Palin backed a GOP primary challenge against Young in 2008 and refused to support him in the general election because of corruption charges.

Don’t look for the octagenarian Stevens to run against Palin any time soon or EVER.

Senator Ted Stevens, R-Alaska

Good riddance to the corrupt and convicted felon senior Senator from Alaska.

Tuesday’s vote count showed the convicted Alaska Senator trailing Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by 3,700 votes– more than the 2,500 overseas ballots still uncounted.

And, go out with some class, would you? And concede.

Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was defeated in his bid for re-election on Tuesday.

Mr. Stevens, a Republican and a 40-year incumbent, was trailing his Democratic challenger, Mayor Mark Begich of Anchorage, by 3,724 votes out of more than 315,000 cast after state election officials on Tuesday counted more than 35,000 absentee and other outstanding ballots.

Only an estimated 2,500 ballots remain to be counted next week, according to Gail Fenumiai, the state elections director.

“I am humbled and honored to serve Alaska in the United States Senate,” Mr. Begich said. “It’s been an incredible journey getting to this point, and I appreciate the support and commitment of the thousands of Alaskans who have brought us to this day.”

Mr. Stevens did not immediately concede the race. Presuming the results are certified, the senator could request a recount, but he would have to pay for it.

Time to retire, Senator and serve your sentence.

Bye Bye……

Alaksa Governor Sarah Palin on The Today Show, November 12, 2008

So, should Sarah Palin run for the United States Senate should incumbent convicted felon U.S. Senator Ted Stevens be re-elected and the Senate then expels him in January?

The answer is YES.

Palin would have to run in a special election within 60-90 days of the vacancy as per Alaska law. She would undoubtedly be opposed by Democrat Mark Begich who Ted Stevens will have beaten – even after a federal felony conviction.

Flap says is Palin has a “FREE RIDE” then she should go for it. She would be a STAR in the Senate and would be set for life in a Senate seat that rarely changes occupants.

And, she would establish herself as the leader of the GOP from Washington, D.C..

Adios, Senator Ted Stevens.

Democrat pick up of this normally safe GOP seat.

Why didn’t the GOP replace Stevens prior to the GOP primary election?

U.S. President George W. Bush (R) shakes hands with U.S. Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington in this file photo taken August 3, 2007. Veteran Republican senator Stevens was charged on Tuesday with concealing $250,000 of gifts from an oil services company and its top executive, the Justice Department said

Say good bye to Senator Ted Stevens (R- Alaska).

John McCain should take the opportunity to make an example of him and the financially corrupt morass of the Congress.
