Howard Dean Declines Surgeon General Becomes Paid Hack Lobbyist/Counselor

    howard dean

Howard Dean allies say that becoming Barack Obama’s Surgeon General would not be a good fit for him.

The news that Sanjay Gupta has decided not to go for the gig of surgeon general has already fired up supporters of Howard Dean, who are now touting him for the post.

But a close Dean ally familiar with his thinking tells me that it’s not really a gig that would work for him. “It’s not a good fit for him,” this ally tells me.

A few months back there was a round of chatter about Dean getting tapped as surgeon general, but at the time Dean aides shot down the speculation. “Even then we didn’t think it was right for him,” the Dean ally says.

    Oh REALLY!

The real reason is that Howard Dean was passed over by Obama for the Health and Human Services job TWICE and now is settling for a paid LOBBYIST or counselor gig.

McKenna Long & Aldridge has landed Howard B. Dean III, the former Vermont governor, Democratic presidential candidate and, most recently, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, for its national government affairs practice.

Dean will be based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office as an independent consultant, and will serve as a strategic adviser to its health care and energy clients, said Eric J. Tanenblatt, who heads McKenna’s national government affairs practice. “He won’t be full time, but he will be spending quite a bit of time in the Washington office,” said Tanenblatt, who has held various leadership positions in the Republican Party, including chief of staff to Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue.

Tanenblatt said Dean will not lobby on behalf of the firm’s clients. Instead he will provide more “big picture” counseling. “Someone who has served as governor understands how government agencies work and their interaction with the federal government,” he said.

Looks like Dean has struck LOBBYIST gold.

Why be Surgeon General – even IF you are asked?

Howard Dean Calls the GOP – A “WHITE” Party

Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democrat National Committee – “If you look at folks of color, even women, they’re more successful in the Democratic party than they are in the white, uh, excuse me, in the [laughs] Republican party.”

Carly Fiorina, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee’s Victory 2008 campaign and prominent supporter of John McCain responded to Howard Dean’s comments:

“It is disappointing to see Howard Dean trying to use gender and race to divide voters,” Fiorina said Friday evening in a statement released by the McCain campaign. “His comments are insulting, inappropriate and have no place in this election.”

But, Howard Dean and the Democrats have made race an important issue with their recruitment of African American voters to support Barack Obama.

Ceratainly with a ninety per cent plus lock of African American voters historically voting for the Democrats, Howard Dean simply misspoke and should have said his party was the “BLACK” party.

Sad to say Presidential politicis has broken down to race, religion, gender and national origin, but it has.

DNC Denver Host Committee Short on Cash

    Hillary Clinton

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., waves to the overflow crowd as she walks with campaign aide Huma Abedin, right, and a secret service agent at a campaign event in Huron, S.D., Thursday, May 29, 2008. Clinton is campaigning in the state in anticipation of the June 3rd South Dakota presidential primary election.

Flap can’t help but think the reason why Barack Obama has NOT agreed to pay off Hillary’s campaign debts (rumored by some to be over $30 million) is because he would decimate his own fundraising accounts AND the DNC would not be able to backfill him because they are out of money.

Millions of dollars behind in raising money and unlikely to meet a fast-approaching final deadline, the Denver committee hosting the Democratic National Convention is considering spending cuts.

Committee sources say they are working with the Democratic National Convention Committee to consider lowering the $55 million in private cash and donated services that must be raised to bring the convention to town. The cuts would be made to the many parties the host committee is obligated to throw for the delegations and the news media, and other hospitality functions not tied to production aspects inside the convention hall.

Howard Dean had done GREAT JOB in fundraising for the Democrat National Committee – NOT. And, so now Hillary goes on her merry way to beat up on Obama over and over again until the Denver Convention because Obama cannot afford to help pay her off.

Maybe Obam will have to change his mind again and accept public financing for his general election campaign – just to get rid of the Clintons.

    Stay tuned…..

Why Howard Dean and Barack Obama Wish to Eliminate the Electoral College

Jim Geraghty has why the Democrats want to change how the President is elected.

I wonder if we’re witnessing a new Democratic strategy for well beyond the 2008 election — scrap the electoral college (a challenge, obviously) and nominate a candidate who can “run up” the vote totals in the areas Democrats already run well — big cities and university towns.

And, the GOP response to any CHANGE would be to insist that states go to proportional allocation of electoral college votes by Congressional district. This would yield the status quo to a GOP advantage. A case in point would be California.

The Democrats can WISH. However, a Constitutional amendment would be difficult and met with fierce GOP resistance.

By the way, did you look at the graphic above?

The real reason for the change?

Barack Obama, today, is losing the Presidency in the Electoral College.
