Air America Scandel: Boys & Girls Club May Vote To Drop Bronx’s Gloria Wise Club Next Month

The New York Sun has the continuing story on the Air America Radio Scandel, Boys & Girls Club May Vote To Drop Bronx’s Gloria Wise Club Next Month.

The Boys & Girls Club of America, a federation of nearly 1,200 affiliates across the country, may drop the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club in the Bronx from its ranks at a vote next month.

Gloria Wise is under investigation by the city’s Department of Investigation for matters that include transferring $875,000 to Progress Media, former parent company of the Air America radio network, and to the club’s director of development, Evan Montvel Cohen, who headed Progress Media.

A recommendation to the national organization’s board of governors came out of a months-long investigation by the group, which a spokesman said was initiated before the city probe was announced in June. The spokesman, Evan McElroy, would not detail the findings of the federation’s investigation but said yesterday, “We do not drop an organization lightly. It’s very, very rare that it happens.”

A spokeswoman for Gloria Wise, Marta Rose of Rubenstein Public Relations, said the Bronx club’s board found out about the national group’s recommendation yesterday and will meet soon to discuss how to preserve its affiliation.

Piquant LLC, which acquired Air America from Mr. Cohen’s Progress Media in May 2004, has agreed to pay $875,000 to Gloria Wise, without interest, in installments over the next two years.

    Why NO interest?

    And why installments?

An employee of Air America, who requested anonymity, said yesterday that it received a letter from the city Department of Investigation recommending that the network set up an attorney-managed escrow account for the payments, rather than pay Gloria Wise directly or wait until the department’s investigation concludes. The employee said the network made its first payment, of an unknown amount, yesterday.

An official of the city agency, who asked not to be named, said later that the letter asked that the radio network put the entire $875,000 in an escrow account.

Right! And pledge all of Air America’s Corporate assets (Al Franken can personally gurantee them) to back the note, if installments or perhaps Franken can get a loan from the drug addict Rush Limbaugh that he so artfully (NOT!) trashed in his book, Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot.

    The Robotic Human Jaw

Medgadget finds this mechanical jaw hard to swallow and recommends everyone to sink your teeth into this press release from Massey News, The robotic human jaw.

A robotic human jaw, under collaborative development by Massey engineers, will have applications for both medical and food technological research.

A team led by Dr John Bronlund and Associate Professor Peter Xu in the Institute of Engineering and Technology has been subcontracted by the University of Auckland to design and make a robotic jaw as part of a larger project in its Bioengineering Institute.

Associate Professor Andrew Pullan at the Auckland Institute is mathematically modelling the muscles of the human face to reproduce jaw movement through muscle contraction, but requires information about the mechanics of the jaw muscles, the forces used in chewing and biting.

The Massey team is now engaged in the construction of the robotic jaw, which will provide comprehensive data of the forces and movements applied in the chewing of food. during chewing of food. Post-graduate students have also been given the opportunity to work on the jaw, which is the first of its type in the world.

Masters student Jozsef-Sebastian Pap has designed the robot and the six actuators which drive the bottom jaw (the top half of the human jaw remains fixed). PhD student Jonathon Torrence is working on the control of the robot. The team estimates the first prototype robotic jaw is six months from completion.

Dr Xu says the project is an excellent example of multidisciplinary research – combining a very innovative type of mechatronics, food technology, and biomechanics. The project is also collaborative, originating from a visit to the University D’Auvergne Clermont in France in 1999. There, Dr Bronlund became interested in a project measuring the chewing behaviour of humans and has since been working with Dr Xu to replicate this in robots.

In New Zealand, Professor Jules Keiser at the University of Otago’s School of Dentistry has contributed data on the shape of the jaw and teeth. This information will be combined with research by Dr Kylie Foster at Massey’s Albany campus measuring the movement of the jaw as it chews, to provide a complete picture of the jaw in motion from which to base the robotic movement.

Dr Bronlund says the ability of the jaw to mechanically replicate the chewing actions of humans has applications across medicine and food technology. Dental researchers can use the jaw to study the response of dental implants to the chewing of different foods and to evaluate the impact of impaired dentition on chewing efficiency. The jaw is designed to be fitted with a variety of teeth, such as the sharp pointy teeth of a six year old or the blunter molars of an adult..

For the purposes of food technology, the jaw will be especially useful in the study of the dynamics of texture changes in foods during chewing. Dr Bronlund says robotic testing of this type will be very valuable when combined with sensory food evaluation techniques. . In the future it is intended to teach the robot to adaptively chew food. It may be made to make its own decisions on how to chew a new food product. If it loses a tooth, it will adjust its motion accordingly and the data collected, of chewing force and jaw movement, will reflect the changed situation.

This research really is a GRIND isn’t it.

Interesting stuff and the first of many models to understand the art and science of occlusion.

    Robert Novak Watch: Apologizes

Robert Novak has apologized for swearing on CNN.

Robert Novak apologized Friday for swearing on the air and walking off a CNN set, but said it had nothing to do with the federal probe sparked by his revelation of a
    CIA officer’s name in a 2003 column.

“I apologize for my conduct and I’m sorry I did it,” he said in an interview.

CNN has pulled him off the air indefinitely. Novak said “I’ll follow their guidance” on when he returns.

CNN correspondent Ed Henry said afterward that he had been about to ask Novak about his role in the investigation of the leak of Valerie Plame’s identity, which Novak has repeatedly refused to comment on aside from some references in his column.

“That had nothing to do with it, absolutely nothing,” Novak said. “I was sorry he said that.”

Boy, alot of media play while the Air America Scandel lingers………

    Robert Novak: Suspended by CNN

The Washington Post has CNN Suspends Novak After He Walks Off Set.

CNN suspended commentator Robert Novak indefinitely after he swore and walked off the set Thursday during a debate with Democratic operative James Carville.

The live exchange during CNN’s “Inside Politics” came during a discussion of Florida’s Senate campaign. CNN correspondent Ed Henry noted when it was over that he had been about to ask Novak about his role in the investigation of the leak of a CIA officer’s identity.

A CNN spokeswoman, Edie Emery, called Novak’s behavior “inexcusable and unacceptable.” Novak apologized to CNN, and CNN was apologizing to viewers, she said.

“We’ve asked Mr. Novak to take some time off,” she said.

A telephone message at Novak’s office was not immediately returned Thursday.

Carville and Novak were both trying to speak while they were handicapping the GOP candidacy of Katherine Harris. Novak said the opposition of the Republican establishment in Florida might not be fatal for her.

“Let me just finish, James, please,” Novak continued. “I know you hate to hear me, but you have to.”

Carville, addressing the camera, said: “He’s got to show these right wingers that he’s got a backbone, you know. It’s why the Wall Street Journal editorial page is watching you. Show ’em that you’re tough.”

“Well, I think that’s bull—- and I hate that,” Novak replied. “Just let it go.”

As moderator Henry stepped in to ask Carville a question, Novak walked off the set.

Interesting that the MSM is all over this story. But, the Air America Scandel has received little press play. Why aren’t the New York Times and Washington Post asking Al Franken to explain his role in the theft of federal funds from a Boys and Girls Club? More on Novak is in the Gray Lady…..

The New York Times has Novak Walks Off Live CNN Program.

Robert D. Novak, the syndicated columnist whose unmasking of a C.I.A. operative touched off an investigation about a possible leak, stalked off a live appearance on CNN yesterday afternoon after James Carville, the Democratic strategist, accused him of trying to make a particular point “to show these right wingers” that he had “backbone” and was “tough.”

And yet another story in the New York Times After CNN Outburst, Novak Told to Take a Break

The veteran political commentator and newspaper columnist has been under fire in recent months for his role in the identification of CIA operative Valerie Plame, the wife of former ambassador and Bush critic Joseph Wilson. Novak’s column identified her, but he hasn’t been under the same scrutiny from the leak investigators that jailed New York Times reporter Judith Miller and forced Time reporter Matthew Cooper to testify before a grand jury.

Novak’s involvement hasn’t been determined, and he has refused to discuss the matter publicly. That has drawn criticism from many quarters, and it was just two weeks ago at the Television Critics Assn.’s summer press tour that CNN executives said they backed Novak.

While neither Henry nor Carville acknowledged Novak’s departure in the segment, Henry noted near the end of “Inside Politics” that the columnist had left the set early.

“I had told him in advance that we were going to ask him about the CIA leak case,” Henry said. “He was not here for me to able to ask him about that, and hopefully we’ll be able to ask him about that in the future.”

The Leftie MSM is happy to spread this story of a veteran journalist “losing it”. And emphasising his role in the Karl Rove, Valerie Plame Flap. They did the same when Rush Limbaugh had his problem with oxycontin and drug addiction.

But, then again, the New York Times is investigating the adoption records of Supreme Court nominee, John Roberts.

Do these left-wingers have NO shame?

The Prince of Darkness had a melt-down. Give him some time off…. and please Bob…..move to Fox News.
