Representative William Jefferson Watch: GOP Challenges FBI Raid of Jefferson’s Office
President Bush, right, shakes hands with Speaker of the House Rep. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., before delivering his speech on the War in Iraq at the Arie Crown Theatre in McCormick Place, Monday, May 22, 2006 in Chicago.
USA Today: GOP challenges FBI raid of Jefferson’s office
Displaying bipartisanship for one of their own, House Republican leaders are expressing concern that the FBI’s search of the Capitol office of Louisiana Democrat William Jefferson crossed the constitutional boundary between the White House and Congress. Tuesday, House Majority Leader John Boehner called the weekend raid “the Justice Department’s invasion of the legislative branch” and predicted the issue would “end up across the street at the Supreme Court.” Read all about the ramifications of the raid — which one blogger calls “The Shot Heard ‘Round The Hill” — from The Associated Press, The Washington Post and The Hill.
Conservative blogger (and law professor) Instapundit is skeptical about the GOP’s constitutional concern: “The separation of powers argument seems to be pretty weak to me.”
Meanwhile, The New York Times takes a look at how the Jefferson bribery probe has cast a shadow over Democratic attempts to hang the “culture of corruption” sign around Republican necks. One influential liberal blog offers this advice to Democrats: “Tell Mr. Jefferson to resign immediately.” Jefferson said Monday he won’t.
And the GOP Speaker Dennis Hastert makes matters worse.
ASSociated Press: House speaker protests to Bush over raid
House Speaker Dennis Hastert complained directly to President Bush on Tuesday about the FBI’s unprecedented raid on Rep. William Jefferson (news, bio, voting record)’s office, while officials said senior Democrats worked to ease the Louisiana lawmaker out of a powerful committee assignment, at least temporarily.
“My opinion is that they took the wrong path,” Hastert, R-Ill., told reporters after meeting with Bush in the White House. “They need to back up, and we need to go from there.”
Good God has the GOP House leadership lost its mind?
The FBI has this Democrat member of Congress on TAPE taking bribes and discovered cold hard cash wrapped in tin foil in his fraking freezer and the FBI is wrong to serve a search warrant signed by a federal judge?
Give me a DAMN break.
And readers wonder why Flap says NOT ONE DIME and NOT ONE VOTE for these fools.
InstaPundit has it RIGHT: Cut Their Salaries and Send Them HOME.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Test-Fires Long-Range Missile
Jerusalem Post: Iran test-fires long-range missile
Iran conducted a test launch Tuesday night of the Shihab-3 intermediate-range ballistic missile, which is capable of reaching Israel and US targets in the region, Israel Radio reported. The test came hours before Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with US President George W Bush in Washington to discuss the Iranian threat.
Military officials said it was not clear if this most recent test indicated an advance in the capabilities of the Shihab 3. They said the test was likely timed to coincide with the Washington summit and with comments made by Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah during celebrations in Beirut marking the 6th anniversary of Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
The extended range of the Shahab-3A (or other designates), putting Europe in its target range.
The Iranians are always masters of timing. President Bush meets with the new Israeli Prime Minister and boom a test firing of a missile if enabled with a nuclear warhead would destroy Israel or as Iranian President Ahmadinejad described Israel, “disgraceful blot” that should be “wiped off the face of the earth.”
But, Israel has a number of defenses and a nuclear offensive deterrent.
And……
The Shihab test was only “partly successful,” according to news reports. The nature of the difficulties was not clear. The Iranians have been working to extend the Shihab 3’s current maximum range of 1,300 kilometers. A year ago, they successfully tested a solid fuel motor for the missile.
In December, Israel’s defense against an Iranian ballistic missile strike, the Arrow 2 missile system, succeeded in intercepting an incoming rocket simulating an Iranian Shihab 3 at an altitude higher than in the previous 13 exercises.
Maj. Elyakim, commander of the Arrow missile battery at Palmahim, told The Jerusalem Post last month that the missile crews were always on high alert, but that they were recently instructed to “raise their level of awareness” because of developments on the Iranian front.
The Arrow missile, he said, could intercept and destroy any Iranian missile fired at Israel, including ones carrying non-conventional warheads. Experts believe that if Iran is attacked by Israel or the US, Teheran would respond by firing long-range ballistic missiles at Israel.
And should Iran ever launch a missile at Israel or United States targets in Iraq or the Persian Gulf, both countries nuclear arsenals WILL come into play.
MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT!
This is MORE BLUSTER from Iran and it grows tiresome.
In the meantime, the foolios in Europe and the United Nations press ahead with another initiative.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Israel Seeks Cruise Missiles
A Tomahawk cruise missile as used by the United States is seen in an undated photo. Israel has speeded up efforts to develop long-range cruise missiles of a type that could be used should the Jewish state try to strike at Iran’s nuclear facilities, security sources said on Tuesday.
Reuters: Eyeing Iran, Israel seeks cruise missiles: sources
Israel has speeded up efforts to develop long-range cruise missiles of a type that could be used should the Jewish state try to strike at Iran’s nuclear facilities, security sources said on Tuesday.
Israel sent warplanes to destroy Iraq’s main atomic reactor at Osiraq in 1981 and has not ruled out similar action to prevent its arch-foe from getting the bomb should U.S.-led diplomatic pressure on Tehran fail.
The greater ranges to Iran’s nuclear facilities might make cruise missiles more practical than planes, but the United States has rebuffed past Israeli requests to buy them.
Cruise missiles are programmed to seek out and hit distant targets, flying low to avoid radar. But only the United States and Russia are known to have mastered all aspects of production.
“A top priority has been put on developing this technology, in light of the Iran situation, as well as improving the Arrow,” an Israeli security source said, referring to the anti-missile defense system designed by state-run Israel Aircraft Industries.
Jane’s Defense Weekly said in 2004 that Israel Military Industries had fielded the country’s first cruise missile, but its range was only around 300 km (190 miles).
There have also been media reports that government arms manufacturer Rafael created at least a prototype cruise missile by attaching a jet booster to its medium-range Popeye missile.
Israel asked Washington to sell it Tomahawk cruise missiles in 2000, during peace talks with Syria. Israel argued that it would need Tomahawks to make up for the loss of “strategic depth” were it to return the occupied Golan Heights to Syria.
The request went unmet. Defense experts saw U.S. reluctance to stir up jitters among Israel’s rivals in the Middle East.
“The United States would not want to export such a capable weapon at such sensitive times,” said Jane’s analyst Robert Hewson, noting that Tomahawks can carry nuclear warheads. Israel is believed to have the region’s only atomic arsenal.Flap bets the United States sells Israel as many Tomahawk cruise missiles as they can afford. And the USA will sell Israel Aegis anti-missile defense systems so that they can deploy them on Israeli Navy ships.
If Iran ever thought they could lob a few chemical or biological laced Shabab-3 missiles at Israel, they better think AGAIN. Israel will defend themselves against the missiles and unleash their nuclear arsenal via bombers and cruise missiles with the help of the United States and its allies.
Now, Ahmadinejad what do you think of those facts?

Cox & Forkum: Core Curriculum
Cox & Forkum: Core Curriculum
The Washington Post: This is a Saudi textbook. (After the intolerance was removed.).
A review of a sample of official Saudi textbooks for Islamic studies used during the current academic year reveals that, despite the Saudi government’s statements to the contrary, an ideology of hatred toward Christians and Jews and Muslims who do not follow Wahhabi doctrine remains in this area of the public school system. The texts teach a dualistic vision, dividing the world into true believers of Islam (the “monotheists”) and unbelievers (the “polytheists” and “infidels”).
This indoctrination begins in a first-grade text and is reinforced and expanded each year, culminating in a 12th-grade text instructing students that their religious obligation includes waging jihad against the infidel to “spread the faith.” …
The Saudi public school system totals 25,000 schools, educating about 5 million students. In addition, Saudi Arabia runs academies in 19 world capitals, including one outside Washington in Fairfax County, that use some of these same religious texts. …
EIGHTH GRADE:
“As cited in Ibn Abbas: The apes are Jews, the people of the Sabbath; while the swine are the Christians, the infidels of the communion of Jesus.” …
NINTH GRADE:
“The clash between this [Muslim] community (umma) and the Jews and Christians has endured, and it will continue as long as God wills.”
“It is part of God’s wisdom that the struggle between the Muslim and the Jews should continue until the hour [of judgment].”
“Muslims will triumph because they are right. He who is right is always victorious, even if most people are against him.” …
TWELFTH GRADE:
“Jihad in the path of God — which consists of battling against unbelief, oppression, injustice, and those who perpetrate it — is the summit of Islam. This religion arose through jihad and through jihad was its banner raised high. It is one of the noblest acts, which brings one closer to God, and one of the most magnificent acts of obedience to God.”

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Fox News Poll Rudy Beats Hillary
Fox News: 05/22/06 FOX News Poll: Clinton-McCain 2008 Race Would Be Nail-Biter
In the latest FOX News national registered voter poll, McCain bests Clinton by a slim 4-percentage point margin — 46 percent to 42 percent — in a hypothetical matchup. Given the poll’s 3-point margin of error, that means this race could go either way.
The Republican edge widens outside the error margin when the choices are between Clinton (40 percent) and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (49 percent).
Women are slightly more likely to favor Clinton over McCain (by 4 percentage points), though they give the edge to Giuliani (by 4 points). Self-identified independents are somewhat more likely to say they would vote for McCain (by 8 points) and for Giuliani (by 9 points) than for Clinton.
It is Rudy’s election – if he wants it.
Remember Flap’s prediction:
2008 GOP Presidential Ticket: Giuliani and Allen
2008 Democrat Presidential Ticket: Clinton and Richardson
Favorability Ratings are even higher for Giuliani.
Likeability is seen as an important quality. The poll asked voters whether they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of several current and former candidates and finds that Giuliani has the best net positive rating.
Almost two-thirds (64 percent) of Americans have a favorable opinion of Giuliani and 15 percent unfavorable, giving him a 49-point net positive rating.
That puts him ahead of first lady Laura Bush, who has a 40-point positive (64 percent favorable, 24 percent unfavorable); and well ahead of the others, including McCain, who has a 24-point positive rating (49 percent favorable, 25 percent unfavorable); former President Bill Clinton, who has a 23-point positive (58 percent favorable, 35 percent unfavorable); and Hillary Clinton, who has an 8-point positive (50 percent favorable, 42 percent unfavorable).
Others included in the poll have a net negative rating. Slightly more voters have an unfavorable than a favorable view of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry (41 percent favorable, 44 percent unfavorable); Gore (41 percent favorable, 45 percent unfavorable); George W. Bush (40 percent favorable, 55 percent unfavorable); and Jeb Bush (28 percent favorable, 45 percent unfavorable, 27 percent unsure).

Iraq War Watch: Debunking Anti-War MYTHS
Saddam Hussein reacts as he responds to chief judge Raouf Abdel-Rahman after Bushra Khalil, the sole woman in Saddam’s defense team was forcibly removed from the court after she clashed verbally with the judge during Saddam’s trail in the heavily fortified Green Zone, in Baghdad, Iraq, on Monday May 22, 2006.
Wall Street Journal: Revisionist History
Iraqis can participate in three historic elections, pass the most liberal constitution in the Arab world, and form a unity government despite terrorist attacks and provocations. Yet for some critics of the president, these are minor matters. Like swallows to Capistrano, they keep returning to the same allegations–the president misled the country in order to justify the Iraq war; his administration pressured intelligence agencies to bias their judgments; Saddam Hussein turned out to be no threat since he didn’t possess weapons of mass destruction; and helping democracy take root in the Middle East was a postwar rationalization. The problem with these charges is that they are false and can be shown to be so–and yet people continue to believe, and spread, them. Let me examine each in turn:
The president misled Americans to convince them to go to war.
The Bush administration pressured intelligence agencies to bias their judgments.
Because weapons of mass destruction stockpiles weren’t found, Saddam posed no threat.
Promoting democracy in the Middle East is a postwar rationalization.
It is certainly important to DEBUNK these anti-war urban legends.
But, the Bush-hating, BDS Cindy Sheehans and Howard Deans of the world will NOT listen.
They hate Bush.
They hate America….

Hillary Clinton Watch: State of Clinton’s Marriage Affects Political Calculations
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton (L) and former first lady Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) sit together at the unveiling of new portraits of the couple in Washington, April 24, 2006. The portraits will hang in the newly-restored National Portrait Gallery, which is scheduled to reopen July 1.
New York Times: Clintons Balance Married and Public Lives
Mr. Clinton is rarely without company in public, yet the company he keeps rarely includes his wife. Nights out find him zipping around Los Angeles with his bachelor buddy, Ronald W. Burkle, or hitting parties and fund-raisers in Manhattan; she is yoked to work in Washington or New York — her Senate career and political ambitions consuming her time.
When the subject of Bill and Hillary Clinton comes up for many prominent Democrats these days, Topic A is the state of their marriage — and how the most dissected relationship in American life might affect Mrs. Clinton’s possible bid for the presidency in 2008.
Democrats say it is inevitable that in a campaign that could return the former president to the White House, some voters would be concerned or distracted by Mr. Clinton’s political role and the episode that led the House to vote for his impeachment in 1998.
So, are Democrat Party operatives getting nervous over Hillary’s prospects? They are probably more nervous over the likelyhood of Bill sabotaging her campaign and this “leaked story” is a shot across his philandering bow.
But, it could be Al Gore. No love lost between him and the Clintons.
Hillary is still the front-runner but the GOP can only hope for some Democrat Party angst.
RUN Al RUN……..
Approaching 60 and with major heart surgery not yet two years behind him, Mr. Clinton has been more reflective in public about the marriage than Mrs. Clinton, who is 58.
When they appeared together at a Manhattan fund-raiser in December, the former president said he had sometimes “kicked myself” for encouraging her to run for office. There were times he wished she were not in the Senate so they could travel more, learn more, he said.
When Mrs. Clinton joined him onstage, Mr. Clinton gave her a kiss on the forehead, and then stepped away. Mrs. Clinton appeared a little choked up. Moments later, as she recalled their 30 years of marriage, she looked out into the dimly lighted room to try to find him.
“I’m so grateful to you, Bill, wherever you are,” she said.
Obviously he is NOT in HER bed………
