Israel at War Watch: USA to Israel – One More Week to Blast Hezbollah
Armed Palestinian women, members of the Popular Resistance Committees, protest against Israel’s operations in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, in Gaza City, Tuesday, July 18, 2006. Israel’s two-front offensive against Islamic militants began on June 25 when Hamas-linked guerrillas in the Gaza Strip carried out a cross-border attack on a military outpost in Israel, killing two soldiers and capturing one. Lebanon’s Hezbollah guerrillas joined the fray on July 12, attacking a military patrol on the border in northern Israel, killing three soldiers and capturing two.
Guardian: United States to Israel: you have one more week to blast Hizbullah
Bush ‘gave green light’ for limited attack, say Israeli and UK sources
The US is giving Israel a window of a week to inflict maximum damage on Hizbullah before weighing in behind international calls for a ceasefire in Lebanon, according to British, European and Israeli sources.
The Bush administration, backed by Britain, has blocked efforts for an immediate halt to the fighting initiated at the UN security council, the G8 summit in St Petersburg and the European foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels.
“It’s clear the Americans have given the Israelis the green light. They [the Israeli attacks] will be allowed to go on longer, perhaps for another week,” a senior European official said yesterday. Diplomatic sources said there was a clear time limit, partly dictated by fears that a prolonged conflict could spin out of control.
US strategy in allowing Israel this freedom for a limited period has several objectives, one of which is delivering a slap to Iran and Syria, who Washington claims are directing Hizbullah and Hamas militants from behind the scenes.
A week? Possibly but the lefty Europeans and whining Muslims are already crying “uncle.” Remember Hamas and Hzbollah provoked Israel – but watch the spin in the Islamic media.
Kuwaitis chant in solidarity to Hibollah under an anti-Bush poster in Kuwait city July 18, 2006.
President Bush should give free rein to the Israeli military since they are fighting for the USA as well. Hezbollah is a proxy for Iran and Syria. Israel has a right to bloody them up and eliminate them as a threat.
Israelis sleep inside a shelter in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, late July 18, 2006. Israeli warplanes battered Lebanon on Tuesday, killing 31 people, and more Hizbollah rockets hit northern Israel, killing one, with no sign that diplomacy would halt the week-old conflict any time soon.
Flap handicaps that the countdown towards a cease-fire will begin when Condoleezza Rice touches down in Israel.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Ahmadinejad Promises a “REJOICING” in the Middle East Soon
A woman looks at posters of Hizbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah (L), Syrian President Bashar al-Assad (top right poster, C) and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (top right, L), displayed by a street vendor near Damascus July 16, 2006.
The Jerusalem Post: Ahmadinejad promises Muslims will ‘rejoice’ soon
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday promised a “rejoicing” for Muslims in the Middle East “soon,” the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
Speaking to university officials in the town of Mashhad, Ahmadinejad said the “volcano of rage” at the “arrogant powers” was “on the verge of eruption.”
Referring to escalating violence in Lebanon and northern Israel, he was quoted as saying, “The Zionists themselves have realized that they have launched a risky move and are aware that the flame of the fury of the regional states will set them ablaze.”
And what “rejoicing” might this be?
Hezbollah is getting its ASS kicked militarily by Israel and Israel will not stop until Hezbollah is disarmed and neutered as a force in southern Lebanon.
Iran will NOT dare enter the war against Israel by, say, firing, a missile because this will be an open invitation for Israel and the United States to bomb their nuclear facilities at Natanz.
It is doubtful that Iran would even come to the aid of Syria should Israel bomb Hezbollah there.
Ahamdinejad has a big mouth but no substance.

Israel At War Watch: Iranian Hezbollah Ready to Attack United States and Israeli Interests Worldwide
Iranian men hold posters of Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, during an anti-Israeli demonstration at Palestine Sq. in Tehran, Iran, Tuesday, July 18, 2006. Speaking to a crowd of thousands of anti-Israel demonstrators, Iranian parliament speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel told Israelis: ‘The towns you have built in northern Palestine (Israel) are within the range of the brave Lebanese children. No part of Israel will be safe.’
Reuters: Iran’s Hizbollah says ready to attack US, Israel
Iran’s Hizbollah, which claims links to the Lebanese group of the same name, said on Tuesday it stood ready to attack Israeli and U.S. interests worldwide.
“We have 2,000 volunteers who have registered since last year,” said Iranian Hizbollah’s spokesman Mojtaba Bigdeli, speaking by telephone from the central seminary city of Qom.
“They have been trained and they can become fully armed. We are ready to dispatch them to every corner of the world to jeopardise Israel and America’s interests. We are only waiting for the Supreme Leader’s green light to take action. If America wants to ignite World War Three … we welcome it,” he said.
Iranian religious organisations have made great public show of recruiting volunteers for “martyrdom-seeking operations” in recent years, usually threatening U.S. interests in case of any attack against the Islamic Republic’s nuclear programme.
But there is no record of an Iranian volunteer from these recruitment campaigns taking part in an attack.
Iran’s Hizbollah (Party of God) says it is spiritually bound to Shi’ite Muslim guerrillas in Lebanon but its command structure and funding are unclear.
And this is why President Bush is “slow-playing” the American hand while Israel has at the Syrian and Iranian client state, Hezbollah. Israel is fighting for United States interests in the Global War on Terror – and winning.
Flap agrees with Bill Kristol – It’s OUR War.
And Hugh Hewitt explains why George Will is WRONG about appeasement.
The United States must affirm its support for Israel and take it to Syria and Iran, if need be.
Iranians demonstrate in support of Hamas and Hizbollah in Tehran, July 18, 2006.
Despite Iranian Hizbollah’s insistence that it takes orders from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, government ministries say Hizbollah does not implement official policy. Iran’s government has said it hopes for a diplomatic solution to the Israeli offensive in Lebanon.
While Iran did fund and support Lebanese Hizbollah during the 1980s, Tehran says it has not contributed troops or weapons in the latest violence. Israel says Iranian armaments have been fired against it.
Yeah, right…. Iran has not made any contributions to this war. These comments remind Flap of the old Soviet Union and how they manipulated their Eastern European satellite client states. And the Iranian missile technicians in Lebanon are there on vacation, right?
Iranian women hold posters of Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah and Hezbollah’s emblem during an anti-Israeli demonstration at the Palestine Sq. in Tehran, Iran, Tuesday, July 18, 2006.
President Bush will “allow” Israel to wipe out most of Hezbollah in Lebanon before he calls for diplomacy. Hezbollah is an illegitimate terrorist state controlling the southern part of Lebanon. Israel should and must drive out and disarm Hezbollah from Lebanon.
Nothing more BUT nothing less…..

Israel At War Watch: Richard Cohen – “Israel Itself is a MISTAKE”
Washington Post: Richard Cohen – Hunker Down With History
The greatest mistake Israel could make at the moment is to forget that Israel itself is a mistake. It is an honest mistake, a well-intentioned mistake, a mistake for which no one is culpable, but the idea of creating a nation of European Jews in an area of Arab Muslims (and some Christians) has produced a century of warfare and terrorism of the sort we are seeing now. Israel fights Hezbollah in the north and Hamas in the south, but its most formidable enemy is history itself.
Liberally DEFICIENT neural thought from the LEFT.
Cohen does not know or UNDERSTAND history, does he? He does not answer the question,
Does Israel have the “RIGHT” to exist?
What say you, Richard Cohen?
Blogosphere:
Stop The ACLU: Cohen: Israel Is A Mistake
So there you have you it, straight from American media’s mouth, it is the creation of Israel itself that has created terrorism. That is where the blame lies in the mind of Richard Cohen. He doesn’t blame the terrorists, he blames the creation of Israel. Sickening.
No doubt Mr. Cohen, and his editors need to hear from you, badly. You can them contact here as well.
Captain Ed has a historical perspective: You Are A Fluke Of The Universe …
Jews have lived in the area for thousands of years. The Romans, the Ottomans, and finally the British ruled them as their numbers waxed and waned, but the area has always been home to the Jews. In the late 19th century, the Zionists began buying land from Arab owners and resettling in the harsh environment of the Trans-Jordan. Arabs at that time were only too glad to sell them what looked like worthless land for far more than its market value. By the time World War I loomed at the Ottoman Empire breathed its last, the Jews had started to tame the land and expand their settlements. Britain recognized this during World War I — not World War II — and obtained a mandate from the League of Nations to administer a Jewish homeland in the Trans-Jordan.
The Holocaust did not create Israel. The Jewish homeland had existed for two decades prior to it, but Arabists in the British government did not make it easy for Jews to emigrate to the new homeland, fearing the wrath of the Arabs in the area. Only three years after the end of World War II did Israel win its independence from the British mandate by a United Nations that opposed such mandates in any case, seeing them (rightly) as a rationalization for colonialism.
The Balfour Declaration in 1917 declared the intent of the British government to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. We should remember that the British intended that two homelands be established in Palestine, one for the Jew and one for the Palestinians — and that the demarcation was supposed to be the Jordan River. The Hashemites stole a march on the British and declared an independent kingdom in what is now Jordan, leaving the British with a much-reduced spot of land for the two homelands. One of the best histories of the region in the 20th century is A Peace To End All Peace by David Fromkin. It’s always on my sidebar, as it’s a must-read for anyone wishing to understand the politics of the Middle East.

New York Times Watch: Will Reduce Space for News and Close Printing Plant
A taxi drives by the New York Times building in Times Square, NewYork, in an undated file photo. The New York Times Co. plans to make the size of its flagship newspaper narrower and close a printing plant, resulting in the loss of 1,050 jobs, the company said in a story posted on its Web site late on Monday.
Reuters: NYT to cut paper size and close plant
The New York Times Co. (NYT.N: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to narrow the size of its flagship newspaper and close a printing plant, resulting in the loss of 250 jobs, the company said in a story posted on its Web site late on Monday.
The changes, set to take place in April 2008, include the closure of a printing plant in Edison, New Jersey. The company will sublet the plant and consolidate its regional printing facilities at a plant in Queens, the paper said.
The newspaper will be narrower by 1 1/2 inches. The redesign will result in the loss of 250 production jobs, the company said.
The New York Times said it expected the changes to result in savings of $42 million.
The narrower format, offset by some additional pages, will reduce the space the paper has for news by 5 percent, Executive Editor Bill Keller said in the article.
Winning Pulitzer Prizes for printing America’s secret anti-terrorism programs cannot possibly SELL newspapers. Subscribers are voting with their feet and walking out…….
