Michael Ramirez on Ahmadinejad and Lebanon
Michael, are you saying that Iran President Ahmadinejad instructed Hezbollah to provoke Israel to deflect the world’s and specifically the G-8 summit’s attention away from Iran’s nuclear program.
Yes, that is what I thought you said.
And Iran is supplying Hezbollah rockets and elite military missile advisors.

Israel at War Watch: Israel Calls Up Reserves as Condoleezza Rice Announces Diplomatic Trip
Israeli tanks gather near the town of Avivivm, at the Israeli-Lebanese border, July 21, 2006.
Reuters: Israel calls up reservists as Rice announces trip
Israel called up army reservists on Friday for a possible major ground assault against Hizbollah in Lebanon, as Washington announced a diplomatic drive and said the conflict’s root causes had be tackled before any ceasefire.
Fearing a large Israeli ground attack, thousands of Lebanese civilians fled north after the Jewish state warned them to leave border villages and kept up a 10-day-old air bombardment.
Amid mounting world alarm at the crisis, U.S. Secretary of StateCondoleezza Rice said she would visit the Middle East next week and attend an Italian-hosted international conference in Rome on Wednesday in a bid to secure lasting peace.
And a ground invasion is NOT surprising. Hezbollah has been planning for an Israeli air campaign for years burrowing tunnels and setting up bunkers. Israel will need some time to mount a land-based campaign to assure that Hezbollah has been disarmed and defanged as an armed threat.
Now, watch Condi and the President “slow-play” the international community and the United Nations.
The United States, Israel’s main ally, has rebuffed Lebanon’s appeals for an immediate U.N.-backed ceasefire, saying this would not last unless Hizbollah guerrillas, backed by Syria and Iran, were prevented from attacking the Jewish state.
Rice told a news conference in Washington an immediate truce would be a “false promise” if the root causes of the fighting were not addressed. “An immediate ceasefire without political conditions does not make sense,” she said. “What I won’t do is … try to get a ceasefire that I know isn’t going to last.”
A cease-fire will last when Hezboolah is disarmed and no longer a threat to Israel – end of story. So, the terrorists can capitualte or Israel will disarm them forcefully.
Stay tuned……

Representative Cynthia McKinney Watch: McKinney a “NO SHOW” in Congress
WSB Radio: Cynthia McKinney Missing In Action
Rep. Cynthia McKinney was a no-show this week in the U.S. House, as WSB Washington Correspondent Jamie Dupree reports that the Georgia Democrat missed all four days of legislative business and every vote on the House floor as well.
McKinney’s office offered no comment as to why the Congresswoman did not return to Washington after Tuesday’s primary election, where she was forced into an August 8th runoff against Hank Johnson.
Also left unanswered Thursday night was whether McKinney would be back at the U.S. Capitol next week. The House has one more week of work before a scheduled August break.
Flap is taking bets on where McKinney is (you can leave them in the comments section)
Did she go on a fast with Mother Sheehan?
And thus lacked the energy to get her ASS to D.C.?
or…..
Is McKinney on an extensive fundraising tour for campaign paid dance lessons?
To raise MORE funds since the Capitol Police Officers Union (fraternal Order of Police) is supporting her opponent, former DeKalb County Commissioner,Hank Johnson?
In any case, Representative McKinney should be in Washington representing her Georgia constituents.
On the bright side: She won’t be there for long…….

Israel at War Watch: Lebanon Invasion Imminent?
AP is reporting that Israeli tanks and troops are massing on the Lebanese border.
Israel massed tanks and troops on the border Friday and warned civilians to flee Hezbollah-controlled southern Lebanon as it prepared for a likely ground invasion to set up a deep buffer zone.
Hezbollah militants fired at least 11 rockets at Israel’s port city of Haifa, wounding five people. Israeli warplanes pounded Lebanon’s main road link to Syria, collapsing part of Lebanon’s longest bridge. A U.N.-run observation post near the border was hit, but no one was hurt.

Israel at War Watch: Condoleezza Rice To Leave on Mideast Trip on Sunday
Reuters: Rice to leave on Mideast trip Sunday: diplomats
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will leave for the Middle East on Sunday and begin a round of visits there on Monday to seek to reduce fighting between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas in Lebanon, diplomats said.
The United States has said it hopes the trip will lay the foundation for a long-lasting solution to the conflict.
Resisting pressure from the United Nations and its European allies, the United States has refused to publicly call for a ceasefire because it says Israel needs time to deal with Hizbollah, which it blames for the fighting.
Rice is expected later on Friday to make the announcement of her trip, which will also include a leg in Asia to attend a regional forum, said one of the diplomats, who asked to remain anonymous to avoid pre-empting her publicly.
It looks like the reports that President Bush had laid the groundwork for a weeks worth of Hezbollah destruction were correct. Once Condi arrives in the Middle East, look for a cease-fire within a matter of days not weeks.
Now, how much disarmament of Hezbollah can the Israeli military accomplish in about ten days?
A sufficient amount…..
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice passes a note to National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley in the Oval Office, July 20, 2006.

North Korea Watch: Iran Military Representatives Attended North Korea’s July 4 Taepodong-2 Missile Launch – Confirmed
A U.S. soldier (L) and South Korean soldiers conduct a joint landing operation at Mallipo beach in Taean, about 106 miles southwest of Seoul, March 30, 2006. U.S. Forces Korea announced its next military drills with South Korean troops on Friday, a move likely to heighten tensions on the peninsula after North Korea’s defiant missile tests on July 5.
Reuters: US says Iranians witnessed N.Korea missile test
One or more Iranians witnessed North Korea’s recent missile tests, deepening U.S. concerns about growing ties between two countries with troubling nuclear capabilities, a top U.S. official said on Thursday.
Asked at a U.S. Senate hearing about reports that Iranians witnessed the July 4 tests, Assistant Secretary of State Chris Hill, the chief U.S. negotiator with Pyongyang, replied: “Yes, that is my understanding” and it is “absolutely correct” that the relationship is worrisome.
Hill’s comments are believed to be the first public U.S. confirmation that Iranian representatives observed the seven tests, which involved one launch of a long-range ballistic missile, which failed soon after being fired, and six tests of short and medium-range missiles. Hill said the six succeeded in hitting their target range.
This was previously reported and does Iranian presence surprise anyone?
NOPE…..
Iran has the petro dollars for a cash starved North Korea and what does North Korea have that Iran COVETS?
ENRICHED URANIUM and the technical knowledge and expertise to manufacture nuclear weapons.
Is there any doubt in light of the Israel-Hezbollah War that Iran who has supplied thousands of rockets to Hezbollah would be hesitant to give them sophisticated missile technology and a nuclear warhead?
A few days ago Elite Iranian troops reportedly attacked an Israeli warship with a “guided missile” and sunk an Egyptican luxury liner.
But U.S. officials have long said that Iran and North Korea have been collaborating and have expressed serious concerns that cash-strapped Pyongyang was keen to sell missiles and possibly also nuclear material. “Our understanding is that North Korea has had a number of commercial relations in the Middle East with respect to missiles,” Hill said.
North Korea-Iran ties are of even more concern now as the militant Islamic group Hizbollah, which is backed by Iran, is trading rocket fire with Israel, Hill and Republican Sen. George Allen of Virginia said during the hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Stay tuned as the United States conducts military manuvers in and around the Korean Peninsula and as the United Nations tightens the lesh around Kin Jong-Il’s neck.
