Global War on Terror Watch: Nancy Pelosi – Just Afghanistan?
LOOK WHERE AL QAEDA & CO. HAVE STRUCK SINCE 9/11
NY Post: JUST AFGHANISTAN?THE woman who will become Speaker of the House, should Democrats pick up sufficient seats on Tuesday, believes passionately that the War on Terror is only the war in Afghanistan.
Reality check: The map above shows a selection of the major, memorable terrorist attacks world-wide since Jan. 1, 2002, as well as indicating nations which the Rand Corp. Terrorism Database lists as hosting a significant al Qaeda presence.
(Just a selection, of course – a map of attacks in Israel or Iraq could fill the whole page.)
Only Afghanistan? It is staggering to think that anyone of such naivete could soon leading one house of Congress.
Nancy Pelosi’s defenders will point out that she answering the question, “Do you not think that the war in Iraq now, today, is the War on Terror?”
But her full answer was, “No. The War on Terror is the war in Afghanistan.”
Mind-boggling. She doesn’t even deny that terrorists have flocked to Iraq, “but that doesn’t mean we stay there,” she says. “They’ll stay there as long as we’re there” – implying . . . what? That they’ll just retire if we go?
True, some would leave – but only to do killing elsewhere. How many would come here?
None of this is to defend every particular of Bush policies in Iraq – would that that were all that divided America’s two political parties.
But it’s not. No, the overriding divide is that one party generally understands that America faces a determined and utterly ruthless enemy of global reach and ambition, an enemy that will keep on coming and keep on killing until it is stopped . . . and the other party just doesn’t want to think about it.
Sure, there are exceptions – one honorable one is Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.
But he was rejected by his state party because of his firm stance in the War on Terror. He’s not the mainstream of the Democratic Party.
Nancy Pelosi is.
The political consensus is the GOP WILL lose majority control of the House. But, will the next Speaker of the House be Nancy Pelosi?
Flap is not so sure. It depends upon the nature of the majority.
But, then again, is the GOP in the midst of a “COMEBACK?”
Stay tuned……

Iran Nuclear Watch: Russia Won’t Bargain Over Bushehr
A general view shows the Bushehr nuclear power plant in the Iranian Persian Gulf port of Bushehr, 1,200 Kms south of Tehran, in June 2006.
AFP: Russia refuses to bargain over Iran nuclear facility
Russia will not bargain at the UN Security Council over its construction of Iran’s first nuclear power station at Bushehr, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said yesterday, Russian news agencies reported.
Lavrov said that European powers were trying to win Russian support for UN sanctions against Iran in exchange for allowing Moscow to continue construction of the Bushehr facility — a key building block in Iran’s controversial nuclear program.
“What they say between the lines is: `Support us on all points and we will allow you to build Bushehr.’ We don’t need that,” Lavrov was quoted as saying by Interfax.
“These plans will go ahead,” he was quoted as saying by ITAR-TASS news agency.
Washington has asked Moscow to reconsider the Bushehr project, saying that Iran could use an atomic power capability to disguise a secret military program.
However, Lavrov said the lucrative construction project would in fact help keep Iran’s nuclear ambitions under international control.
“Bushehr is a real anchor which will hold Iran in the non-proliferation regime,” he was quoted as saying by ITAR-TASS. “The atomic energy station is being built under full control” of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Russia is NOT America’s friend and the Bushehr nuclear power station is an easy bombing target, in any case. So, who cares if the Russians don’t wish to negotiate. The plant is not operational either.
After Tuesday’s election, Moscow had better redeploy their engineers, because Bushehr will not be standing very long.
Note that Kargh Island is just north of Bushehr.
Looks like a TWOFER to Flap (two bombing targets for the price of one).
Read more about military options against Iran here.
Stay tuned for more feckless and useless negotiations in the UNSC this week.

Mark Steyn Watch: Canada’s Indigo Books NOT Boycotting “America Alone”
National Post: Indigo is not ‘boycotting’ Steyn
Re: Steyn’s Book Can’t Be Found In Canada, Nov. 3.
Charges that Indigo is “boycotting” Mark Steyn’s book, America Alone, are ludicrous. Mr. Steyn’s book was for sale at Indigo’s channels in September of this year and it promptly sold out. Indeed we should have purchased more initially but the moment we realized the error, we immediately placed a reorder for several thousand more books. As of this moment, we, as well as most other book retailers in Canada, are still awaiting new copies from the publisher, which we are told will arrive in mid-November.
It is regrettable that Mr. Steyn doesn’t acknowledge that he wrote his Maclean’s piece even though his Canadian sales representative had fully informed him of his book’s reorder status with Indigo. We find it also curious that he chose to unfairly attack Indigo, while most other book retailers in the country are also sold out.
While one has to admire Mr. Steyn’s self-promoting efforts, there is a fine line between publicity and defamation. To make an accusation of “boycott” is a serious allegation and one should not be able to make it just to create buzz and sell more books.
Sorya Ingrid Gaulin, vice-president, public relations, Indigo Books & Music Inc., Toronto.
Well, that is good to hear. The new printing of Steyn’s book will have Flap’s photo credit on the back flap.
The reader can purchase the book here.
And lookie lookie Steyn’s book is doing well on Canada’s Amazon list. The list is here.

Iraq War Watch: Saddam Huissein Convicted and Sentenced to Hang For Crimes Against Humanity
Former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein yells at the court as he receives his verdict as a bailiff attempts to restrain him during his trial held under tight security in the heavily fortified Green Zone, in Baghdad, Iraq, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006. Saddam and two others were convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for war crimes in the 1982 killings of 148 people in the town of Dujail.
AP: Iraqi tribunal sentences Saddam to hang
Saddam Hussein was convicted and sentenced Sunday to hang for crimes against humanity in the 1982 killings of 148 people in a single Shiite town, as the ousted leader, trembling and defiant, shouted “God is great!”
As he, his half brother and another senior official in his regime were convicted and sentenced to death by the Iraqi High Tribunal, Saddam yelled out, “Long live the people and death to their enemies. Long live the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!” Later, his lawyer said the former dictator had called on Iraqis to reject sectarian violence and refrain from revenge against U.S. forces.
The trial brought Saddam and his co-defendants before their accusers in what was one of the most highly publicized and heavily reported trials of its kind since the Nuremberg tribunals for members of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime and its slaughter of 6 million Jews in the World War II Holocaust
“The verdict placed on the heads of the former regime does not represent a verdict for any one person. It is a verdict on a whole dark era that has was unmatched in
Iraq’s history,” said Nouri al-Maliki, Iraq’s Shiite prime minister. The world has NO use for this EVIL.
Hang him HIGH.
