Air America Watch: Al Franken is OUT at Air America
Allah at Hot Air: Report: Franken leaving Air America in early December
Brian Maloney’s hearing December 8th. KQKE in San Francisco reported ten days ago that it’s December 10th. No word on why, but I think we can take an educated guess.
He wasn’t good enough, he wasn’t smart enough, and gosh darn it, nobody liked him.

House Democrat Leadership Watch: Pelosi Named Speaker – Hoyer Majority Leader
Democratic nominee for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) (L) and Democratic House Majority Leader nominee Steny Hoyer (D-Md) (C) raise their arms while Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa) (R) applauds following the House Democratic Caucus Leadership elections on Capitol Hill November 16, 2006.
Updated: Allah has the video of Pelosi, Hoyer and Murtha making nice here.
Murtha compliments Nancy Pelosi’s support for “redepolyment” by noting she “led that flight.” Then he corrects himself to say “fight.”
AP: House Democrats Name Hoyer to No. 2 Post
House Democrats on Thursday chose Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer to be House majority leader over Rep. John Murtha, the choice of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, in line to become speaker.
Hoyer was elected on a vote of 149-86.
The balloting marked a personal triumph for him, but also a snub to Pelosi, moments after the rank and file selected her unanimously to become speaker when the House convenes in January.
“We made history and now we will make progress for the American people,” Pelosi told the party caucus moments after her selection.
She vowed that after 12 years in the minority, “we will not be dazzled by money and special interests.”
House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md) walks into the House Democratic Caucus Leadership elections on Capitol Hill, November 15, 2006.
A very weak start for Pelosi.
Will she be able to hold the NUTS and moderates together for party line votes or will the GOP forge a Blue Dog Democrat-GOP coalition?
The latter as in the Reagan years.
So, Jack Murtha lied to Chris Matthews yesterday?

North Korea Watch: Bush Warns North Korea – “Don’t Transfer Nukes”
Singapore’s Prime Minster Lee Hsien Loong (L) speaks during a meeting with US President George W. Bush in the East Room of the Istana presidential palace in Singapore. Bush urged Asian leaders to send a forceful message to North Korea that it cannot share nuclear weapons know-how and must stay on the “peaceful path” of disarmament talks.
AP: Bush warns N. Korea: Don’t spread nukes
President Bush on Thursday warned North Korea against transferring nuclear weapons or material to other countries, saying such an act would be considered a “grave threat” to the United States.
The standoff over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program is atop the agenda in most of the meetings the president will have during his eight-day, three-nation Asian trip, which kicked off with a speech in Singapore.
“The transfer of nuclear weapons or material by North Korea to states or non-state entities would be considered a grave threat to the United States and we would hold North Korea fully accountable for the consequences of such action,” Bush said in the speech at the National University of Singapore.
Ahead of its Oct. 9 nuclear test, North Korea pledged not to launch a first strike or allow its bomb technology to be spread outside the country.
Bush also urged allies in the region to stand firm against a nuclear-armed North Korea and enforce U.N. sanctions against the country for conducting a nuclear weapon test last month.
“For the sake of peace, it is vital that the nations of this region send a message to North Korea that the proliferation of nuclear technology to hostile regimes or terrorist networks will not be tolerated,” he said.
In the meantime, the United States should be quickly building and deploying theater missile defense for Japan and Taiwan.
Talk is cheap with the North Koreans.
Stay tuned……..

EU Airlines Green Tax Watch: £27 Green Tax on Long flights
TimesOnLine: American fury at plan to charge £27 green tax on long flights
AIRLINE passengers would pay up to £27 extra for a return ticket to cover the environmental damage caused by their flights, under European Commission proposals to address climate change.
Draft legislation to be published next month would require all flights arriving or departing from European Union airports to buy permits to cover their carbon dioxide emissions.
The document, a copy of which has been obtained by The Times, says that airlines would join Europe’s emissions trading scheme by 2011 and predicts that they would pass on the costs to their passengers.
The report estimates that passengers on flights within Europe would pay an extra €9 (£6) for a ticket, with the actual sum depending on the price of the permits. Those flying long haul would pay up to €39.60 (£27).
This will infuriate the United States and many other countries because it would affect all flights into and out of Europe, regardless of their origin or destination. US airlines would have to buy permits to cover their emissions on their European routes.
Trade War.
One that the European Union with their heavily subsidized airlines will lose.
But, hey, Europeans will either have to impose higher taxes or import more Muslim immigrants to pay for their economically failing economies. The EU’s decline will be exacerbated by this move.
Flap’s guess is that after the ruination of their tourism industry from the United States there will be some reconsideration/recapitulation.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Russia Continues to Disagree on Iran Sanctions
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Ahmadinejad on Tuesday said Iran would soon celebrate completion of its controversial nuclear fuel program.
AP: Russia, U.S. disagree on Iran sanctions
After three weeks of talks, the United States and key European countries remain locked in fundamental disagreement with Russia about the scope of U.N. sanctions that
Iran should face for refusing to rein in its nuclear program. The Europeans and Americans want tough sanctions to punish Iran but Russia says it will agree only to limited measures targeting the nuclear program. Neither side is budging, setting the stage for lengthy negotiations and the possibility of no immediate action against Iran.
U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said Wednesday that there were still “wide gaps” after six rounds of closed-door talks between the Russians and Europeans.
“We are still basically where we have been,” said Bolton.
Flap does not know what President Bush said to Russian President Putin regarding Iran’s nuclear program on Bush’s Asian tour. However, it is very evident that the attempt to mediate or broker a deal with the Russians for United Nations Iran sanctions is nearing an end.
The United States and wiling allies should immediately impose economic and poilitical sanctions on Iran outside the framework of the United Nations.
And the Russians may find their Bushehr nuclear power plant which they are building for the Iranians in ashes from a military action.
Is a military operation what Russia REALLY wants?
Iran thinks a war is coming. A war to WIPE ISRAEL OFF THE MAP.
A general view shows the Bushehr nuclear power plant in the Iranian Persian Gulf port of Bushehr, 1,200 Kms south of Tehran, in June 2006.
Iranian technicians work inside the reactor building of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, in southern Iran , February 2006. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced ambitions to enrich uranium on a scale that the United States warned would give the Islamic republic the capacity to produce an atomic bomb.
Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin echoed that view, saying that senior foreign ministry officials from the five veto-wielding U.N. Security Council members — the U.S., Russia, China, Britain and France — and Germany failed to bridge the differences during a telephone discussion Tuesday. He also said that there was “a rather intense exchange of opinion” at a Wednesday meeting of U.N. ambassadors.
Time for talk is over.
Time for sanctions or……
The “POINT OF NO RETURN” looms.
Stay tuned……
