Iraq War Senate Resolution Watch: Democrats Run for Cover But the GOP 7 Remain
Hugh Hewitt: Senate’s Resolution Frenzy Over: Democrats Flee Debate
Congrats to Mitch McConnell and the Republican caucus which stuck to its demands for fairness, and forced the Democrats to flee from the prospect of voting on the Gregg resolution. The whole sorry circus has now pulled up stakes and left town, and NRSC Pledge signers are free to resume contributions to the NRSC though, I suspect, they will wait a while to see if the new signs of spine in the Republicans on the Hill carry over until March, April, and beyond.
Sorry, Hugh, not so fast…….
Washington Post: 7 GOP senators back war debate
Senate Republicans who earlier this week helped block deliberations on a resolution opposing President Bush’s new troop deployments in Iraq changed course yesterday and vowed to use every tactic at their disposal to ensure a full and open debate.
In a letter distributed yesterday evening to Senate leaders, John W. Warner (Va.), Chuck Hagel (Neb.) and five other GOP supporters of the resolution threatened to attach their measure to any bill sent to the floor in the coming weeks. Noting that the war is the “most pressing issue of our time,” the senators declared: “We will explore all of our options under the Senate procedures and practices to ensure a full and open debate.”
And the other five?
The other Republican senators who signed the letter were Susan Collins and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, Norm Coleman (Minn.), Gordon Smith (Ore.), and George V. Voinovich (Ohio).
The PLEDGE lives on.
Tell these 7 Senators to GET IT RIGHT OR GET OUT.
Tell them that you support the pledge.
No, Hugh it is NOT over……..

Giuliani Notes: The Energizer Bunny?
UK Telegraph: Giuliani ‘the Energiser Bunny’ puts some spice into White House bid
Rudy Giuliani, his macho credentials already established by his performance in New York on Sept 11, has given his White House campaign a testosterone boost with a steamy photo shoot.
The former New York mayor posed for Harper’s Bazaar magazine with his third wife Judith. In one picture, the couple engage in a tender smooch in which a diamond-festooned Mrs Giuliani, 52, pulls her husband’s head upwards with a hand splayed across his cheek.
In an accompanying interview, she described Mr Giuliani, 62, as “the Energiser Bunny”, gushing: “One of the most remarkable things about my husband, who sleeps three or four hours a night, is his energy level and stamina.
Oh those Brit tabloids…..they love their sex gossip.
One redeeming aspect of this spicy portrayal:
Rudy won’t be doing any ads for Viagra (like Bob Dole), if he loses the campaign.

Giuliani Notes: Florida – Rudy Leads McCain 29-23 and Hillary 47-44
In an early look at the 2008 presidential race in Florida, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has a razor-thin 47 – 44 percent lead over New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, while Sen. Clinton edges Arizona Sen. John McCain 47 – 43 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
Giuliani gets 29 percent of Florida Republican primary voters, with 23 percent for McCain, 14 percent for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and 6 percent for Romney.
“Rudolph Giuliani runs very well in Florida, which is considered to be a socially conservative state, despite his support for abortion rights, gay rights and gun control,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “Whether that is because they don’t know about his stand on those issues or don’t care will be the key question as the campaign unfolds.”
By a 60 – 20 percent margin, Florida voters have a favorable opinion of Giuliani.
Favorability ratings for other contenders are:
* 50 – 21 percent for McCain;
* 51 – 39 percent for Clinton;
* 37 – 18 percent for Obama, with 44 percent who haven’t heard enough to form an opinion;
* 44 – 27 percent for Edwards, with 27 percent who haven’t heard enough;
* 46 – 47 percent for Gore;
* 26 – 48 percent for Gingrich;
* 75 percent haven’t heard enough about Romney.While Giuliani gets a 40 – 36 percent favorability among Democrats and a 59 – 20 percent positive among independent voters, Clinton gets a big negative 15 – 77 percent among Republicans and a 43 – 43 percent split among independent voters.
And this is why Hillary must attack Rudy and erode his support from the independent voters.
Will she be able to do this without losing/alienating her base?
Doubtful……..
Watch for the media attacks against Giuliani – by surrogates.
However, is Hillary worried about political fall-out in her primary contest against Obama and Edwards?Perhaps.
Stay tuned……..

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Trashing Rudy on Speaking Fees and Consulting
Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, right, is seen with Sean Hannity while on the set of Hannity and Colmes on the Fox News Channel in New York on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor whose popularity soared after his response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, moved closer Monday to a full-fledged campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
USA Today: Rudy’s millions: Paper scrutinizes former NYC mayor’s speaking fees
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani “has leveraged his image as ‘America’s mayor’ to his decided financial advantage and in ways that belie his man-of-the-people persona,” according to the Chicago Tribune.
The paper says Giuliani (bio) earns $100,000 — plus expenses — for each speech. And he gives a lot of speeches. In 2002, the former mayor estimated his annual income from speaking engagements at $8 million. He earns millions more as a consultant, including at least $1 million from firms “tied to criminal or regulatory missteps,” according to the Tribune.
This piece written by Andrew Zajac of the Chicago Tribune’s Washington Bureau is crap. It implies by innuendo that Rudy Giuliani has illegally or somehow unethically profited in business. And that he has used the 9/11 terror attacks for his own personal enrichment.
And there is evidence, where?
Because Hizzoner commands a certain fee, contracts and fulfills his contractual obligations, he has done something wrong, unethical or illegal? It is unethical to fly in a private jet, when you pay for it yourself?
Because an Australian organization nets a small sum after expenses, that is Rudy’s fault?
Because courts set aside awards for fees for Giuliani’s consulting company, there is something wrong? Courts set aside and modify fee awards all of the time.
So, what is Zajac’s point?
Look at the Comments at the end of the USA Today article:
*******
sounds like he is smart to me. Nothing illegal about charging a fee for a speach that I am aware of.
I have more respect for him than anyone else running so far.It’s the American way, I’d take 100K for speaking, unfortunately I’m only worth about $10 per speach and that’s to keep my mouth closed.Rudy, Bill, Al, Jimmy, George Bush I, and on and on and on… Go for it. I wouldn’t pay that much but obviously a lot of people will and do.”Only in America” – Don KingThis smells like a desperate attempt for an early derailing of the strongest presidential candidate. Smells like the opposition soiled themselves at the latest polls.No one currently running for president has a stronger executive resume than Rudy. That is why they fear him and have to look for some mud to throw.On second thought, go ahead and smear him. Rudy is way to liberal for my tastes. I think liberals fear him most because he has the best chance of winning New York over Hillary.Bill Clinton. Jesse Jackson. Al Gore.Liberal smear alert! If that is what people are willing to pay Rudy to speak, that is what he is worth. Rudy should charge a whole lot more than that!So what. Why is it an issue that Rudy commands a price, sets stipulations and then honors the contracts he enters into? Why is that an issue?When Clinton charges the same amount, for the same thing, the Media crows how much in demand he is. When Rudy does it, the position becomes “He’s out of touch with the common person”…More Media bias and hypocrisy.“Giuliani earned $200,000 for a speech at a fundraiser for an Australian hospital that netted the organizers only $15,000″If these suckers are willing to pay all this money, they deserve what they get.in regards to his ‘man of the people’ persona… wasn’t this guy always rich?and how much do all the others charge? about the same actually. bill clinton and jimmy carter both get about 100K. al gore is about 50K for him to talk.it really is stupid that places would pay them that much for a lousy speech*******
The comments tell it all.
So, is the Clinton Cabal and the MSM starting to go after Rudy?
And you really thought that the 2008 Presidential campaign was going to be about issues facing the United States?
Sadly NOT.
Stay tuned……
Rudolph Giuliani, seen here at Ground Zero in October 2001, is a charismatic former New York mayor who was catapulted to hero status for his response to the September 11 attacks of 2001, earning the title “America’s Mayor.”
