CBS News: Poll: Giuliani Leads McCain For GOP Nod

Senator John McCain of Arizona and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani – two of the front-runners for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2008 – both enjoy favorable views from both Republican primary voters, a new CBS News poll finds, but early on in the race, voters favor Giuliani in a head-to-head match up.

Views of Giuliani are especially positive among both moderates and the conservatives that he and McCain are courting.

Voters planning to take part in a Republican primary next year think both McCain and Giuliani share their values, but would currently prefer Giuliani over McCain if the nomination fight came down to just the two of them.

Is Senator McCain in trouble before he even announces?

Perhaps………

Patrick Ruffini, Team Giuliani’s blogger offers some rationale for massive yet early Rudy-mentum in the polls.

Update:

Just some thoughts…….should Rudy become the inevitable GOP candidate early, might someone from the social conservative right run as a third party candidate like Ross Perot did against Bush I in 1992?

Along those lines shouldn’t Rudy ask all the announced GOP candidates to sign a pledge that if they lose the GOP presidential nomination that they would not run as a third party or independent candidate?

This pledge idea, Flap thinks, has some legs……..
