Giuliani Notes: Rudy in Reno, Nevada

    giulianimarch10gweb

Presidential candidate Rudy Guiliani is interviewed by the media outside of Costco in Reno, during a campaign stop suprising locals Saturday, March 10, 2007.

Giuliani in Reno, stops at Costco

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani is in Reno today, where he greeted shoppers at Costco off Harvard Way.

He stopped there to buy some supplies before a fundraiser this evening at a private Reno residence.

Guilani talked and greeted people while shopping through the aisles, purchasing socks, power bars, DVDs and a book about Richard Nixon’s relationship with a former Chinese leader.

One of the CDs Guilani bought was “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

At Costco, Giuliani signed autographs and posed for photographs with customers and employees. He also bought the book “Nixon and Mao,” and several movie DVDS, including “My Fair Lady,” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

“I love old movies,” he said. “They have much better prices here than back home.”

Shoppers were pretty surprised to see him at Costco, taking his picture and getting his autograph.

“It’s pretty exciting to come to Costco,” Debbie Zener said. “Buy groceries. Thank God I had a camera in my purse.”

“Last place I expect to see him,” Josh Aguilar said. “Kinda cool, everybody’s rushing him.”

    ******

But interestingly, using a Newt Gingrich analogy Rudy offered a “MEA CULPA”, admited mistakes and offered an apology of sorts for his family problems.

    Giuliani defends Gingrich in Reno

Newt Gingrich’s admission of having an extramarital affair as he pursued President Clinton’s impeachment in the Monica Lewinsky affair has been defended by Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani.

Giuliani, speaking to reporters during a campaign stop late Saturday afternoon in Reno, said the episode shows no one is perfect and the former House speaker can improve by learning from it.

“I think the American people realize, and I’m speaking for myself now, we’ve made a lot of mistakes, and hopefully we’ve done some good things in our lives and it’s probably always been that way,” he said.

“The American people have to judge who is the most effective leader. They will not find a perfect person, and that’s probably good because we all have imperfections. Sometimes when you go through things like that in your life, you can become a better person,” he said.

Giuliani, who has been married three times and has chilly relations with his children, visited Reno for a private, $1,000-per-person fund-raiser.

While he called Gingrich “one of the smartest people in American politics,” the former New York City mayor said it was premature to say whether he would consider him as a running mate.

The unofficial BUZZ from New York is that Rudy has always considered Newt as a very well qualified running mate – if only he, like Rudy, could surmount politically embarassing family infidlities.

Will the American people forgive Rudy and Newt?

Probably or either one of them will NOT be elected to another office.

Many people have problems in their family and personal lives. No one is perfect. And isn’t redemption and repentance from sin well established in our Judeo-Christian culture?

    You bet…….

The polls in the next few weeks will give us an indication if American voters will accept Rudy’s apology and move on to evaluating the issues of the campaign.

Republican strategists said the fund-raiser at the Reno home of developer and casino owner Roger Norman was expected to net more than $200,000 for Giuliani.

His visit comes three days after Nevada Republicans approved a presidential caucus for next Feb. 7, six weeks earlier than previously scheduled.

The Mayor returns to Washington Monday where he has scheduled an early morning news conference at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.

Bill Richardson Watch: Richardson for VP?

    richardsonmarch10aweb

Democratic presidential hopeful New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson speaks to college Democrats, Friday, March 2, 2007, at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

    Richardson Rising

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is viewed by Democratic insiders as rising to the top of the party’s second-tier presidential candidates, becoming a leading vice-presidential prospect and an increasingly possible nominee for president.

Richardson’s past service as a member of Congress, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and secretary of energy makes him a more experienced public servant than any of the first-tier Democratic candidates: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards. A Mexican-American and a Westerner, Richardson is seen as strong in the critically important bloc of states that include Arizona, Nevada and Colorado, in addition to New Mexico.

Bill Richardson is a SHILL for Hillary and will protect her in the debates.

    Just watch…..

Of course, payment will be the vice presidency, unless Richardson has more “TOUCHING” problems with women.

Iraq War Watch: The Iraq Talks

    cox&forkum07.03.08.IraqTalk

AP: U.S. and Iran hold rare direct talks

U.S. and Iranian envoys exchanged direct talks Saturday on efforts to end Iraq’s violence and bolster its government, opening limited but potentially significant contacts that could ease their nearly 28-year diplomatic freeze.

The discussions were confined to one session during a conference on Iraq stability, but they appeared to offer room for further interaction between the two nations — which find themselves increasingly drawn toward common issues in Iraq as the nation’s most influential allies.

The U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, said he exchanged views with Iranian delegates “directly and in the presence of others” at the gathering led by Iraq’s neighbors and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.

He declined to give details of the contacts — calling them only “constructive and businesslike and problem-solving” — but noted that he raised U.S. assertions that Shiite militias receive weapons and assistance across the border from Iran.

Yeah, talking to the representatives of a country that supply arms to kill American soldiers help how?

Talking to Iranians who covet a nuclear weapon to threaten nuclear armageddon, wipe Israel off the face of the earth and to nuclear blackmail the world, helps how?

    And whats does Iran want?

Well, how about the United States leaving the area so they can expand their hegemony over the region. This helps American interests how?

Iran continues to foment sectarian violence in Iraq in order to achieve their interests.

Negotiation with the Iranians serves no American purpose.

But, a blockade or seizure of Iranian oil facilities would.

Fox News Watch: Nevada Democrats Whimp Out to NUTROOTS

    foxnewsmarch10bweb

Faces of news: Daytime anchor Jane Skinner and Fox News chief Roger Ailes.

The Nevada Democrat Party wimps out to the pressure from the NUTROOTS and Moveon.org.

So, the Democrats like John Edwards and Bill Richardson are going to pick and choose the coverage of their candidates? And object if the sponsors or venue do not meet their ideological litmus tests?

GOP candidates have been dealing with the acknowledged left-wing slant of the major media outlets for years.

    The Fox News response:

News organizations will want to think twice before getting involved in the Nevada Democratic Caucus which appears to be controlled by radical fringe out-of-state interest groups, not the Nevada Democratic Party. In the past, Moveon.org has said they ‘own’ the Democratic party—while most Democrats don’t agree with that, it’s clearly the case in Nevada.

The NUTROOTS have won – but the Democrat candidates for President have LOST.
