Iran Watch: Iran Urges UK to Respond with Goodwill
15 British Soldiers last Video Interview in IranCNN: Iran urges UK goodwill on sailors
Iran has urged Britain to respond with goodwill to the release of 15 British sailors and marines held captive in Tehran for 13 days.
The naval crew members were on Saturday beginning two weeks’ leave with their families in Britain.
Ambassador Rasoul Movahedian told the Financial Times newspaper that Iran had “showed our goodwill” by freeing the sailors.“Now it is up to the British government to proceed in a positive way,” he was quoted as saying on Saturday.
The newspaper said Movahedian spoke before the group’s officers told a news conference the naval crew were subjected to “psychological pressure” and kept in isolation during their detention.
“We share in the British people’s happiness and we believe it is the right time for the British government to affirm its willingness to establish sensible lines of communication with Iran,” the ambassador was quoted as saying.
He said “the prime issue for Iran” was recognition from the West of its right to a nuclear power program.
More humiliation for the Brits.

First, there is the conduct of their sailors as evidenced in the video above and, now, Iran rubs their nose in their release by requesting accomodation for their nuclear program.
Flap bets the Brits are feckless enough to give Iran a few nukes.
It is no big deal – Chirac said so.
American World War II veterans must be rolling over in their graves and to think they fought the Nazis to save these WANKERS and their system of government.

Update #2
Anger as hostages sell stories to highest bidders
The 15 British military hostages released by Iran were accused last night of cashing in on the ordeal by selling their stories in a string of lucrative media deals.
The sailors, who spent 13 days in captivity and at times feared for their lives, have been given permission by the Ministry of Defence to give exclusive interviews. The MoD justified lifting the ban on military personnel selling their stories while in service because of the ‘exceptional circumstances’ involved.
The former captives are expected to make around £250,000 between them. Faye Turney, the 26-year-old seawoman, is likely to get the most profitable deal. She is said to have sold her story for £150,000 in a joint contract with a newspaper and ITV.
The development was criticised by politicians and relatives of victims killed in the Iraq war. Liam Fox, the shadow Defence Secretary, said: ‘One of the great things about our armed forces is their professionalism and dignity. Many people who shared the anxiety of the hostages’ abduction will feel that selling their stories is somewhat undignified and falls below the very high standards we have come to expect from our service men and women.’
The Mullahs of Iran must be REALLY laughing their asses off in Tehran.
Good Grief…..

NHS Dentistry Watch: NHS Dentistry Reforms Are Failing
January sales or a queue for an NHS dentist?
Reforms to NHS dentistry are failing, the British Dental Association said yesterday as thousands of would-be patients besieged a practice near Portsmouth offering NHS care.
In scenes more typical of the January sales, patients arrived at first light at a new practice in Titchfield Common, Hampshire. Before the doors had opened, 2,000 people had registered online and over the phone. Hundreds more arrived in an attempt to grab the 1,000 remaining places. By the time the surgery opened at 10am, the queue stretched around the block.
Manori Ambrose, who set up the surgery, said: “There are a lot of people who need a dentist who are not even on the waiting list.â€
The British Dental Association (BDA) wrote to Barry Cockroft, the Chief Dental Officer of England, yesterday and called for changes to the dental contract, which has been in force for a year.
Flap wants to know why the British people are putting up with a government that fails to solve their problems?
The Labour government of Tony Blair’s solution: queues or self-treatment?
A better solution is easy – private dentistry with minimal government involvement.
The Brits have been humiliated by Iran, now by a government run (socialized) bureaucracy?
Hat Tip for this piece to NHS Blog Doctor who is fighting the UK NHS System first hand.

Missile Defense Watch: THAAD Missile Defense Test is Successful
Missile-Defense System Test Succeeds
The military shot down a Scud-type missile in this year’s second successful test of a new technology meant to knock down ballistic missiles in their final minute of flight, the Missile Defense Agency said Friday.
A ship off Kauai fired a target missile before 9 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time Thursday. Three minutes later, soldiers with the U.S. Army’s 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade launched an interceptor missile from Kauai that destroyed the target over the Pacific, according to the agency.
The military says it already can shoot down missiles in their last stage of flight by using Patriot anti-missile batteries. But the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system would be able to protect larger areas than the Patriot system because it intercepts targets at a higher altitude, said agency spokeswoman Pam Rogers.
The new system had its first successful test last year at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. It had another successful test Jan. 27 at the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai.
Flap wrote about the first successful test last year in New Mexico. Since last July the Missile Defense Agency has moved the test site to Hawaii due to space requirements.
The press release from the Missile Defense Agency is here.
Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD)
Remember what Brig. Gen. Patrick O’Reilly, deputy director of the Pentagon’s Missile Defense Agency said in January – United States Missile Defense will be operational within the year.
Another successful test and another segment of missile defense goes online.
Flap wonders how many of these THAAD systems will be initially sold to Israel?
Flap bets many………
Here is a video of presumably the January 2007 THAAD test in Hawaii:
