John McCain Watch: McCain LIES in South Carolina Flyer
Washington Post: McCain’s Negative Flyer
To date the leading candidates for president have largely avoided any direct confrontations with one another, believing — perhaps rightly — that any sort of major scuffle will leave both sides damaged in the eyes of voters.
But, behind the scenes an all-out war of information (and misinformation) is going on as each campaign seeks to ensure that reporters, activists and other political hangers-on are made aware of each and every negative article, misstatement or controversial policy position made or advocated by their opponents.
While most of these attacks fly below The Fix’s radar screen we managed to get our hands on a flyer that was handed out last Friday night at a gathering of the Charleston (S.C.) County Republican Party.
The McCain campaign paid for the flyer and confirmed its authenticity.
Flap has not seen such fabrications, distortions, and LIES on candidates’s positions EVER in a Presidential campaign.
I have seen such antics in college campus campaigns and for California GOP office.
But, in a Presidential race?
So, what does this mean?
Senator McCain will do whatever it takes to win, including intentionally misrepresenting his opponents views.
Senator McCain is disingenuous and a LIAR.
Senator McCain is DISQUALIFIED from the Presidency.

Giuliani Notes: Rudy 33% McCain 19% Thompson 13% Romney 12%
Rasmussen Reports: 2008 Republican Presidential Primary
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Senator John McCain both gained support this week in the race for the GOP nomination. Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney held steady and remain the only other Republicans earning double digit support.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of the Republican Presidential Primary competition finds Giuliani at 33%, fourteen points ahead of McCain’s 19%. Thompson is still in third at 13% slightly ahead of Romney at 11%. For Giuliani, that’s his highest level of support in three weeks. It’s McCain’s best showing since early March. Last week, it was Giuliani 27% McCain 16% Thompson 14% and Romney 12%.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was consistently in third place before Thompson’s name was thrown into the ring. He is now in fifth place as and is the top choice for just 8% of those likely to vote in a Republican Primary.
The GOP NUTS:
Rudy – 33%
McCain – 19%
Thompson – 13%
Romney – 12%
Gingrich – 8%
Rudy continues a double digit lead and there is a sense of “inevitablility” in the air for the GOP nomination. None of the other candidates are catching fire.
When will the lower tier candidates start to drop?
Probably after the May 3rd Presidential debate at the Reagan Library.

Virginia Tech Tragedy Watch: Gunman is Cho Seung-Hui
Law enforcement officials have provided this official photo of Cho Seung-hui, the man they identify as the killer at Virginia Tech. Cho was a 23-year-old student of Korean descent who lived on campus. Sources tell ABC News he was carrying a backpack with a receipt for the purchase of a 9 mm handgun.
POLICE: Campus killer is Cho Seung-Hui, 23, native of South Korea….

Killer’s Note: ‘You Caused Me to Do This’
The gunman suspected of carrying out the Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 people dead was identified Tuesday as a English major whose creative writing was so disturbing that he was referred to the school’s counseling service.
Professor Carolyn Rude, chairwoman of the university’s English department, said she did not personally know the gunman. But she said she spoke with Lucinda Roy, the department’s director of creative writing, who had Cho in one of her classes and described him as “troubled.”
“There was some concern about him,” Rude said. “Sometimes, in creative writing, people reveal things and you never know if it’s creative or if they’re describing things, if they’re imagining things or just how real it might be. But we’re all alert to not ignore things like this.”
She said Cho was referred to the counseling service, but she said she did not know when, or what the outcome was. Rude refused to release any of his writings or his grades, citing privacy laws.
Virginia Killer’s Violent Writings
The play by Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old English major, was submitted last year as part of a short story writing class. Entitled “Richard McBeef,” Cho’s bizarre play features a 13-year-old boy who accuses his stepfather of pedophilia and murdering his father. A copy of the killer’s play can be found below. The teenager talks of killing the older man and, at one point, the child’s mother brandishes a chain saw at the stepfather. The play ends with the man striking the child with “a deadly blow.”
First victim … Emily Hilscher, 18, after which another 31 students and staff were executed
Eighteen-year-old Emily Jane Hilscher was one of the first two victims to be identified in the Virginia Tech massacre, along with 22-year-old Ryan Clark.
The pair were neighbours in rooms 4040 and 4042 on the fourth floor of the West Ambler Johnston Hall dormitory where a gunman began the first of 33 campus shootings on Monday morning just after 7am, US time.
