Illegal Immigration Watch: LAPD to Review immigration Rally Clash

Telemundo TV Crew Caught In MacArthur Park Clash

Los Angeles Times: Bratton oversees LAPD inquiry at critical time

Officers’ use of force after pro-immigrant rallies occurs days before chief is up for reappointment.

Only days before officials will decide if Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton deserves a second term, he found himself Wednesday overseeing another high-profile investigation into allegations of police abuse on his watch — this time, whether officers used excessive force against immigrant rights protesters in MacArthur Park.

Even as organizers of the May Day march called for the chief to be fired and police union officials winced when he said he was “disturbed” by some video scenes, Bratton was impressing others, including one member of the Police Commission, the body that will decide his fate, with quick and decisive action.

As he has done in the past, Bratton moved fast to get in front of the controversy, postponing a planned trip to El Salvador and holding two news conferences in two days to assure the public that the latest videotaped incident would be fully investigated.

In the frank style that made him a favorite of the tabloids when he headed the New York Police Department, Bratton told reporters early Wednesday that he was “disturbed” by videotapes that showed the confrontation and thought that the actions of some officers who used batons and foam bullets to clear the park were “inappropriate.”

He later took a barrage of aggressive and challenging questions at a news conference at City Hall, where he voiced “regret” for the incident.

So, the LAPD cops under the leadership of Chief William Bratton and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa go after the news media covering an immigration rally instead of the illegal aliens themselves.

    My My!

But, then, when the immigrant demonstrators get caught up in the fray, the LAPD beats them.

LAPD Chief Bratton speaks at a press conference at Los Angeles City Hall today in response to events that occured during an immigrants rights march that ended at MacArthur Park.

What about the assinine LAPD Special Order 40?

Obviously, the new media was an easier target than illegal immigrants who fragrantly break the law.

Good grief…..couldn’t the cops tell the difference between Mark Coogan in a blue suit and this fella…..?

Even the Los Angeles Press Club has sent an open letter to Chief Bratton:

    Bush’s veto survives House challenge

Congress failed to override President Bush’s veto of legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq on Wednesday, a defeat for anti-war Democrats that triggered immediate talks on a new measure to fund the conflict.

The House vote was 222-203, 62 shy of the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto. With few exceptions, Republicans stood fast with Bush in the wartime clash. The original vote on the bill was 218-208.

“I’m confident we can reach agreement,” the president said moments after the vote as he sat down at the White House with leaders of the Democratic-controlled Congress, who have vowed repeatedly to force him to change his war policy.

Democrats flashed defiance, yet signaled they were ready to make significant concessions such as jettisoning the troop withdrawal timetable and cutting some of the domestic funds that are part of the bill and Bush opposes.

In turn, the president defended his decision to send more troops to Iraq. “The question is, Who ought to make that decision?” Bush said in answer to a question after a speech. “The Congress or the commanders? And as you know, my position is clear — I’m the commander guy.”

The Congress ultimately will fund the troops after the Democrats “MILK” the bill for as much political advantage as they can get.

If the Democrats were principled (which they are NOT) they would vote to cut off funds for the troops and accept the wrath of the American people.

But, alas, they are “SURRENDER MONKEYS.”

Mitt Romney Watch: Yet Another Scientology Book Gaffe

The Eye is all over the latest Mitt Romney gaffe.

Asked about his comments during a Fox News interview Monday that L. Ron Hubbard’s Battlefield Earth is his favorite novel, Romney said Huckleberry Finn is his favorite fiction and that the book by Hubbard, who founded Scientology, is his favorite science fiction reading.
`It’s a great science-fiction book,” Romney said. `He hadn’t founded Scientology at that point.”

    Except………

Joan Baez Watch: Baez Banned from Walter Reed Hospital

    joanbaez28klweb

Folk music legend Joan Baez performs at an anti-war protest camp near U.S. President George W. Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, August 21, 2005. Baez joined anti-war protesters near the ranch on Sunday to meet military families who want troops pulled out of Iraq.

AP: Joan Baez banned at Walter Reed hospital

Folk singer and anti-war activist Joan Baez says she doesn’t know why she was not allowed to perform for recovering soldiers recently at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as she planned.

n a letter to The Washington Post published Wednesday, she said rocker
John Mellencamp had asked her to perform with him last Friday and that she accepted his invitation.

“I have always been an advocate for nonviolence and I have stood as firmly against the Iraq war as I did the Vietnam War 40 years ago,” she wrote. “I realize now that I might have contributed to a better welcome home for those soldiers fresh from Vietnam. Maybe that’s why I didn’t hesitate to accept the invitation to sing for those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. In the end, four days before the concert, I was not ‘approved’ by the Army to take part. Strange irony.”

Baez, 66, told the Post in a telephone interview Tuesday that she was not told why she was left off the program by the Army. “There might have been one, there might have been 50 (soldiers) that thought I was a traitor,” she told the paper.

Tammy thinks that Baez is clueless because of all of the GANJA.

Flap thinks she is clueless because she is a LIBERAL MORON.

    Maybe both……..

GOP Presidential Debate Watch: Republicans Get Ready to Square Off

    gopdebatemay2web

Republicans square off in US presidential debate

Ten Republican presidential hopefuls trade their first face-to-face shots in a debut 2008 campaign debate Thursday, courting core conservatives in the symbolic shadow of party icon
    Ronald Reagan.

A week after Democratic counterparts opened their debate season, the packed Republican field will gather at the former president’s library in California, a gruelling nine months before first votes are cast for the nomination.

“There’s a lot at stake … no Republican has established himself as a viable nominee,” said Allan Lichtman, a professor at American University.

“If any of these candidates can establish himself, it can shake up the race quite a bit.”

Former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani, running a campaign rooted in his leadership during the September 11 attacks in 2001, will be in the crosshairs as he tries to shield his clear early lead in opinion polls.

An average of recent polls puts Giuliani at around 33 percent of likely Republican voters, well clear of his closest rival, Senator John McCain .

McCain, once viewed as the clear favorite of the Republican establishment, must use Thursday’s debate to shore up his bid after a tepid start and a lacklustre showing in the multi-million dollar fundraising stakes.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney will relish the exposure before a national US television audience, while lesser candidates will hope to break out from the pack.

But analysts said, given the size of the field, stuffed with little known longshot candidates, and the absence of some likely key contenders, a decisive development was unlikely so early in the race.

“There may be a jab here or there, but I see it more as a first round, they’re not necessarily going to go for the knock-out blow,” said David Corbin, of the University of New Hampshire.

Nancy Reagan will attend the event as well as her guest, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Flap will be at the Giuliani event and will live blog the debate.

Looks like the Democrat National Committee isn’t waiting until tomorrow to open up on the candidates. Check out this 42 page briefing book.
