Iran Nuclear Watch: Vice President Cheney Warns Iran

Vice President Dick Cheney, left, accompanied by USS John C. Stennis Strike Group Commander Rear Adm. Kevin Quinn, speaks to sailors and Marines during a rally aboard the aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, Friday, May 11, 2007.

In Gulf, Cheney warns Iran of U.S. resolve

Vice President Dick Cheney used the deck of an American aircraft carrier just 240 kilometers off Iran’s coast as the backdrop Friday to warn the country that the United States was prepared to use its naval power to keep Tehran from disrupting oil routes or “gaining nuclear weapons and dominating this region.”

Little of what Cheney said in the cavernous hangar bay of the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis, one of two carriers whose strike groups are now in the Gulf, was new. Each individual line had, in some form, been said before, at various points in the four-year-long nuclear standoff with Iran, and during the increasingly tense arguments over whether Iran is aiding the insurgents in Iraq.

But Cheney stitched all of those warnings together, and the symbolism of sending the administration’s most famous hawk to deliver the speech so close to Iran’s coast was unmistakable.

Yawn…..all said before and the “NUCLEAR POINT OF NO RETURN” is at hand. The Bush administration and Israel have to decide to shit or get off the pot.

Iran has ignored these United Nations resolutions:

UNSC Resolution 1696 (2006)

UNSC Resolution 1737 (2006)

UNSC Resolution 1747 (2007)

So, now what?

Iran, of course had a bellicose response:

But the commander of Iran’s armed forces warned on Friday that his men would respond to any attack.

“The West… is murmuring threats, and… our armed forces are taking these threats seriously,” General Hassan Firouzabadi told a military graduation ceremony, according to the state IRNA news agency.

“They have been realistically identifying the enemies’ weak and strong points, and based on them, have been devising plans to confront these threats and have kept themselves ready,” said Firouzabadi, who did not appear to be reacting directly to Cheney’s remarks.

And we have heard this all before……

Time for action or surrender to Iran and an nuclear Iran at that……
