Representative William Jefferson Watch: Boehner Seeks Jefferson Expulsion from the House

U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg (L) is joined by Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher (R) as they announce the indictment of Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) on 16 counts of public corruption, including bribery, in Washington, June 4, 2007. Jefferson was indicted on Monday on 16 criminal counts for conspiring to solicit bribes and pay off a Nigerian official, with $90,000 of an intended bribe found hidden in his home freezer wrapped in aluminum foil.

Boehner seeks Jefferson expulsion

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) moved quickly to force the expulsion of Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) from Congress following his indictment Monday on federal corruption charges.

The Republican leader will ask members of the House to vote on a resolution requiring the ethics committee to review the indictment filed against him in order to seek his expulsion from the House, according to his office.

Boehner will offer a privileged resolution on the House floor as early as Tuesday calling for the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct to review the 94-page indictment filed against Jefferson Monday. The House will then vote on his resolution calling for the ethics panel to act.

The Justice Department indicted the Louisiana Democrat Monday on federal charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes and money laundering.

And the Speaker should immediately ask Jefferson to resign from all House Committees pending his trial.

A 16 count federal indictment does not look good for Jefferson or the Democrat’s “Culture of Corruption.”

Flap thinks Jefferson should resign but Jefferson will only do that after his “plea deal.”

And just when is Ronnie Earle about to bring that slime of a man known as Tom DeLay to trial so that justice may be administered for his crimes?

  • Flap

They already GOT Delay by chasing him out of office and taking over the House in Fall 2006.

Now, the polls show the Democrats in Congress have the same polling numbers as the GOP.

    What can it all mean?

But, but, but… Tom DeLay was …so ….so….EVIL!! Are you implying that he was forced to resign from office by the dimmos solely for their political gain? But they care so deeply for others! I thought the dumboRATs were going to lead us to Nirvana and now you’re telling me that’s not the case? Oh, the HUMANITY!!!!

the reason polls are so low is because the dems thought they won on ideas and are trying to get them rolling. dems didnt get voted FOR, republicans got voted AGAINST and the president didnt help anything….i just cant believe it happened any other way….i know thats how i went about it and i cant be alone….they betrayed everything almost that a conservitive is supposed to be about, took a right turn down bible lane then into fanatics alley…at the same time buying and selling out just about any and everything…i dunno man they deserved it…..hope its a wake up call or a third party comes forward republicans are worn out.
