U.S. offers aid to Abbas-led Palestinian government.
The United States joined the European Union on Monday in announcing its willingness to resume hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to the new Palestinian government led by President Mahmoud Abbas. The commitment of financial and political support follows last week’s gunbattles between rival Palestinian factions that led to Hamas routing Fatah forces in Gaza loyal to Abbas and the crumbling of a Fatah-Hamas unity government.
In response, Abbas declared a state of emergency and appointed a new Cabinet of political independents based in the West Bank.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she spoke by phone with newly appointed Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Monday. “I told him that the United States would resume full assistance to the Palestinian government and normal government-to-government contacts,” Rice said.
Rice added that the United States will give up to $86 million to help build the government infrastructure, such as improving roads and providing drinking water. …
President Bush called Abbas on Monday and pledged his support to the president and “those Palestinian moderates who are working to better the lives of Palestinians and work toward a Palestinian state living side by side in peace with Israel,” National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.
“Palestinian moderates”? It was Fatah’s Abbas who refused to disarm Palestinian militant groups, including Hamas and the “armed wing” of his own party, even after continued terrorist attacks. It was Fatah terrorists who claimed joint responsibility with Hamas for the suicide-bombing mother who murdered four people. Abbas has called Israel the “Zionist enemy”. It is Fatah whose name means “conquest” and whose logo still includes an AK-47 and a grenade.
There’s so little difference between Hamas and Fatah that you can barely tell them apart: Fatah photo and Hamas photo. The only real difference is that Hamas is more open about its intent to destroy Isreal.

You mean the ENEMY OF MY ENEMY IS MY FRIEND – so give them aid?
Sounds like United States policy with Saddam Hussein, Iraq and Iran.
Doesn’t Foggy Bottom EVER learn?

Suicide Bombers Dispatched to Europe and USA
Inside a Taliban ‘Graduation’
The “graduation” took place on June 9 somewhere in the tribal areas along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.Exclusive: Suicide Bomb Teams Sent to U.S., Europe
Large teams of newly trained suicide bombers are being sent to the United States and Europe, according to evidence contained on a new videotape obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com.
Teams assigned to carry out attacks in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Germany were introduced at an al Qaeda/Taliban training camp graduation ceremony held June 9.
A Pakistani journalist was invited to attend and take pictures as some 300 recruits, including boys as young as 12, were supposedly sent off on their suicide missions.
Tighten up the borders and start the profiling, Homeland Security.
And to think the United States Senate is considering an amnesty plan for illegal aliens, when the United States cannot identify who is currently in the country.
No wonder they were skiddish at the White House today.
This group is prepared to attack Germans. Germany has been a target of the Taliban and al Qaeda since its troops joined the NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Update:
Building Near White House Evacuated
A government building near the White House was ordered evacuated Monday, apparently because of a bomb scare.
Security in the area was heightened because of the visit to Washington of Israeli Prime Minster Ehud Olmert.
Olmert is staying at the Blair House on Pennsylvania Avenue across from the White House. The evacuated building was the White House conference center, which is around the corner. The conference center temporarily houses the White House press corp during a renovation in the West wing.

North Korea Watch: Hill – North Korea to Disable ALL Nuclear Facilities by the End of 2007
*****UPDATE*****
North Korea plans to shut reactor in July: report
North Korea plans to seal its nuclear reactor, the source of weapons-grade plutonium, in the second half of July, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported on Monday, citing an unidentified North Korean diplomatic source.
“To stop the reactor, it will take about a month according to our specialists,” the North Korean source was quoted as saying by Interfax.
“So we are counting on sealing it in the second half of July, in accordance with the agreements reached at the six-party talks,” the source said.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill (L) and South Korea’s chief envoy to six-way talks on ending North Korea’s nuclear program Chun Yung-woo speak to reporters after their dinner at a hotel in Seoul June 18, 2007. The chief U.S. envoy in nuclear disarmament talks with North Korea said on Monday he hopes moves toward ending Pyongyang’s nuclear armament program can return to a tight timeline now that a banking dispute has been settled.
Envoy Sees North Korea Progress
North Korea could be ready to begin shutting its plutonium producing reactor within weeks as the first step toward disabling the unit by the end of this year, the top American negotiator on the North’s nuclear weapons program said here today.
Christopher Hill, an assistant secretary of state, said stalled efforts to dismantle the North’s nuclear weapons program could move ahead after a pivotal weekend when Pyongyang invited inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to visit for talks on verifying and monitoring a shutdown.
â€This is an event we have been looking forward to for some time,†Mr. Hill said following talks with his Chinese counterpart, Wu Dawei.
Today, the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency said it would send a team to Pyongyang next week to discuss how its inspectors would verify the shutdown, The Associated Press reported from Vienna.
Good news but Flap worries that North Korea has reneged before – so TRUST BUT VERIFY.
Also, word from Pyongyang is that the 65 year old Kim Jong-Il is ill and there appears a void in the leadership to succeed him.
Will this spell trouble for the conclusion of the agreement?
Stay tuned…….

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy 28% Thompson 19% McCain 18% Romney 7% in Latest USA Today/Gallup Poll
Sen. Fred Thompson surges into tie with John McCain for second in GOP contest
Giuliani leads the field at 28%, down 4 points from two weeks earlier. Thompson is second at 19%, up 8 points. McCain is at 18%, 1 point lower. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is fourth at 7%, down 5 points.
“It’s a long campaign and it’s only June, and these polls are going to move around,” says Terry Nelson, McCain’s campaign manager. “There’s a lot of campaign for folks still to have and still a lot of issues to be debated.” Most Republicans aren’t firmly settled on any contender, he says.
He predicts that Thompson will get “a bump” when he formally announces his candidacy, likely next month.Although Thompson’s lead over McCain isn’t wide enough to be statistically significant, it underscores the political problems plaguing the Arizona senator. Six months ago, he was tied with Giuliani at the top of the field.
The next benchmark: fundraising reports for the second quarter of the year, due next month. McCain lagged behind Romney and Giuliani in money raised during the first quarter.
When Thompson’s supporters were asked their second choice, 34% picked Giuliani; 16%, Romney; and 14%, McCain. The GOP NUTS:
Head to Head: Rudy vs. Thompson
If the GOP contest came down to Giuliani or Thompson, Republicans and Republican-leaning independents chose Giuliani, 53%-41%.The latest Real Clear Politics Poll Average is:
A good poll for Rudy.
As McCain and Romney fade Giuliani continues as the FRONT RUNNER with a DOUBLE DIGIT LEAD.
The race for the GOP nomination is becoming a two person race although Flap expects Romney to continue into 2008. McCain will probably drop out after Labor Day, particularly if his fundraising continues to dry up.
