Joe Wilson Endorses Hillary Clinton for President
Fmr. Ambassador Joseph Wilson Endorses Clinton
The Clinton Campaign today announced the endorsement of leading Iraq war critic and former Ambassador Joseph Wilson.
“I have known Hillary Clinton for a decade. She is the one candidate who, in my judgment, understands the need to get Americans out of harm’s way and to move this to a political process,” Wilson said. “She knows what to do. She has the leadership. On day one, she will be able to reach out to the international community, and I am delighted to fight the fight with her.”
“I admire Joe Wilson’s courage in standing up to this administration and holding it accountable for the misinformation that led us into the Iraq war,” Clinton said. “I’m honored to have his support as we do everything in our power to bring this war to an end and begin bringing our troops home safely.”
Guess Joe wants another ambassador gig now that his wife, Valerie Plame is retired from the CIA.

John McCain Watch: McCain’s Press Staff Quits
Republican Presidential candidate Sen. John McCain gestures while talking about global warming during a town hall meeting hosted by the Churchill Club in Santa Clara, Calif., Monday, July 16, 2007.
The bleeding continues at John McCain’s presidential campaign.
On Monday, five McCain press aides — including his three top communications officials — quit en masse, just days after the campaign lost its chief strategist and campaign manager among dozens of aides being shed as part of aggressive cost-cutting measures.
The aides to resign — communications director Brian Jones, deputy communications directors Danny Diaz and Matt David, and press aides Adam Temple and Amanda Hennenberg — all agreed to stay on a few extra days out of loyalty to McCain, and helped him set up his weekend trip to New Hampshire.
Flap thought the stake was in the heart of this campaign last week.
Well, it is now.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Mirthala Salinas and Bikini Journalism
Veteran WMAQ-TV reporter Amy Jacobson, wearing a halter bikini top and towel, appears in an image from video posted Tuesday, July 10, 2007, on WBBM-TV’s Web site. Jacobson, her two young children and a bare-chested Craig Stebic are also shown in the video captured Friday, July 6, 2007, near a pool at Stebic’s Plainfield, Ill., home. Managers at Chicago’s NBC affiliate were reportedly considering Tuesday how to deal with Jacobson who was assigned to cover the disappearance of Stebic’s estranged wife, Lisa.
Howard Kurtz: Bikini Journalism
Kurtz asks the questions of Telemundo Channel 52 and the Los Angeles MSM:
The episode was reminiscent of the huge embarrassment involving Mirthala Salinas, the Telemundo anchor and reporter in Los Angeles who is having an affair with the city’s mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. Salinas, who had covered the mayor, somehow thought it was a good idea last month to read a story announcing his breakup with his wife, leaving out a certain pertinent fact.
When California blogger Luke Ford broke the story, which was confirmed by the Los Angeles Daily News, Salinas put out statements confirming the relationship, pleading for privacy and insisting she did nothing inappropriate — but not addressing the obvious conflict. She has granted no interviews.
Neither have Telemundo executives who put out a statement praising Salinas as “one of our most respected reporters and a great professional,” only to suspend her — with pay — the following day. Despite conflicting accounts over whether Salinas told her bosses of the affair with Villaraigosa or misled them by saying it was just a friendship, the L.A. station still hasn’t addressed what happened.
“The little firecracker with the Chiclet smile” and Mayor Villaraigosa
While Mayor Villar stonewalls the media and sends forth the spin meisters, what is happening with Telemundo and Mirthala Salinas?Flap tells you – if this were a conservative or Republican politician the Los Angeles Times and the non-Hispanic television stations would be all over all of their asses. But, with apologists like Los Angeles Times columnist Al Martinez who excuses their behavior as “not unusual” what do you expect?
So, again, what you gonna do, Telemundo?
Mirthala Salinas, a Telemundo newswoman, interviews L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at the state Capitol on June 21, 2006. Villaraigosa has now acknowledged that he has “a relationship†with Salinas.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Villaraigosa Skips TV Interview – Dispatches Spin Masters
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, center, directs high school students during a clean-up project in the Chinatown section of Los Angeles, Tuesday, July 10, 2007, as a kick-off event for a summer youth employment program.
Villaraigosa skips TV interview on personal life
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, hoping to move beyond the controversy over his divorce and relationship with a TV anchorwoman, passed up his monthly appearance today on a local television news show.
Villaraigosa had been scheduled to appear on KABC-TV’s Eyewitness Newsmakers, but told producers he would not answer any personal questions, reporter Adrian Alpert said.
“More than two-thirds of the questions we received were about his relationship,” Alpert said. “As a result, spokesman Gil Duran said the mayor would not be appearing this month.”
Without the mayor, the show concentrated on the political impact on the mayor as well as questions over the journalistic ethics of Telemundo reporter Mirthala Salinas, with whom he has been involved for the past year.
The station did post some of the questions it received from viewers. The political redemption strategy for the Mayor is CLEAR: stonewall, spin and hope the voters forget.
However, sending a former staffer, Darry Sragow, to spin his continued political viability will not make the questions of unethical and inappropriate behavior disappear.
There has been little MSM coverage of the flap over Mirthala Salinas’ condominium but there is more to this story and undoubtedly there will be other favors for the Mayor’s mistress discovered.
Mayor Villar will have to answer the questions regarding his personal and political relationship with Mirthala Salinas – the question is when?
And will the MSM demand that he answer? Or will this be up to a Los Angeles Grand Jury?
