Mixed Signals from Britain on Iraq War – Is the Alliance Over?
President Bush, right, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown participate in a joint press availability at Camp David, Md., Monday, July 30, 2007.
Mixed signals on the Iraq War are coming from Britain and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
And, Britain insists that they will remove their troops from Iraq irrespective of the United States.
Gordon Brown has paved the way for the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq by telling George Bush he would not delay their exit in order to show unity with the United States.
After four hours of one-to-one talks with the US President at his Camp David retreat, Mr Brown told a joint press conference he would make a Commons statement in October on the future of the 5,500 British troops in the Basra region.
The Bush administration, under mounting domestic pressure to produce an exit strategy from Iraq, has been nervous that a full British withdrawal would add to the criticism. But Mr Brown made clear – and President Bush accepted – that Britain would go its own way, even if that gave the impression the two countries were diverging.
Yet, there was this coming from the White House.
President Bush and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown forged a unified stand on Iraq Monday, aiming to head off talk of a splintering partnership in the face of an unpopular war.
“There’s no doubt in my mind he understands the stakes of the struggle,” Bush said of Brown after two days of talks at the tranquil presidential retreat in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains.
The visit was closely watched for any sign of daylight between the president and prime minister after four years of unwavering support by Tony Blair, Brown’s predecessor. Blair was saddled with the nickname “poodle” by critics at home he felt he was too compliant with Bush’s policies, particularly in Iraq.
Brown told Bush that he shares the U.S. view of gradually turning over security of Iraq to its own people, based on signs of clear progress and advice from military leaders.
“We have duties to discharge and responsibilities to keep in support of the democratically elected government,” Brown said of Britain’s commitment to Iraq.
Still, as the U.S. has built up troops, Britain has been pulling them out.
Let the British wankers leave with their tails between their legs.
Iran bitch slapped them earlier this year and they took it with a stupid smile.
Has the UK – America alliance been broken?
No, but it is headed towards a re-evaluation. America can NO longer count on the Brits.

Fred Thompson Watch: FLOP Response
Earlier today it was leaked by the Politico that the Thompson non-campaign for President has raised a pathetically small $3 million plus since beginning campaign operations in June.
Some Thompson supporters are worried that the Presidential campaign will be a FLOP.
The campaign lagged and finally distributed a “rapid” response piece some four plus hours later.
Thompson’s WEAK response demonstrates this non-campaign is NOT ready for prime time.
A FLOP is kind – how about NON-STARTER?
Update:
Next, read these responses which are pretty much a rewrite of Thompson’s talking points here and here.
Their analyses are so flawed that Flap hardly knows where to start.
But, I will.
- Thompson hasn’t announced, has hired minimal staff and has NO money ($3 million won’t cut it) to run television ads in major Super Tuesday states.
- Giuliani did not announce until February of this year – so their figures are false.
- McCain has raised more, is a declared candidate and has spent alot – but shot his wad, so to speak.
- Also, this is not December 2006 but August 2007 and January 2008 elections loom.
I may have to make these lunacy analyses a separate post.
NOBODY is buying them.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Democrats Want NANNY Government to Control Your Life
Republican presidential hopeful, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, poses for a photo during a surprise campaign stop at R.M. Heath Supermarket in Moultonborough, N.H., Monday, July 30, 2007.
While campaigning in New Hampshire today, Mayor Rudy Giuliani accused the Democrats of favoring a controlling “nanny government.”
Last week, Giuliani called the Democrats the “party of losers” and singled out Edwards and Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for criticism on economics and foreign policy.
Giuliani argued that he favors less government and lower taxes.
“That’s what makes America great, not this nanny government that Democrats want to give us, where government controls your entire life,” he said.
The Mayor has it mostly RIGHT.
The Democrats favor radical socialism of government funded by massive tax increases.
Tomorrow the Mayor will outline more details regarding his healthcare reform proposals.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: The You Tube Debate Flap Continues With CNN Attempting to Reschedule Debate

The infamous Snowman question at the first You Tube Democrat Debate
Patrick Ruffini is optimistic.
If the debate is rescheduled to sometime in October, undoubtedly it would include Fred Thompson and not trap the Mayor with voters in Florida.
But, Flap proposes a tweak – Drop CNN as the sponsor and let Fox News do it. Let the Fox folks pick the questions.
This lefty probably won’t agree:

Nor will these NUTOOTERS:
Flap thinks the idea is stupid. The words trivial, moronic and demeaning come to mind.
I would prefer a panel of educated, and professional questioners who know what the hell they are doing than college kids and unemployed idiots with time on their hands.
But, she thinks it is a grand idea:

Fred Thompson Watch: A FLOP?
Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson, who hasn’t officially entered the presidential race, arrives at the Enterprise Jet Center for a short rally before making his way to an afternoon fundraiser Wednesday, July 25, 2007, in Houston. Thompson has established a ‘testing the waters’ committee that allows him to raise money for a presidential bid. He is expected to formally kick off his candidacy in September, after the Labor Day holiday.
Is the Fred Thompson wannabe candidacy for President a FLOP?
First, some of his staff resigns and now the Politico is reporting fundraising problems.
Flap has maintained that Thompson would NEVER formally announce. With only $3 million on hand, Flap might be RIGHT.
Update:Â
Allah over at Hot Air says the Thompson backlash is in full swing.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani on healthcare reform, June 5, 2007.
Flap just got off a media conference call about the Mayor’s announcement tomorrow in New Hampshire of a package of healthcare reform measures as a “COMMITMENT” to the American people.
Flap will have more later when the audio and transcript are made available.
And, of course, there will be more specifics tomorrow.
Stay tuned……
Update:
The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee today announced key advisors who have been providing input on Rudy Giuliani’s commitment to providing affordable free-market-based solutions to health care aimed at giving Americans more control over and access to their health care.
The Mayor’s group of advisors includes well-known advocates of consumer-driven health care and recognized leaders in their respective areas of expertise. The group consists of Dr. Daniel Kessler, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institute, associate professor at Stanford University, and co-author of Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise. Other advisors include Dr. Scott Atlas, Dr. David Gratzer, Sally Pipes, and Don Moran.

Yvonne Brathwaite Burke Watch: Los Angeles County Supervisor Lives in Brentwood – Out of Her District? Part Two

The Los Angeles Times continues to “FORCE” this piece about Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke and her time spent sleeping in Brentwood.
In a Sunday column by Steve Lopez, Burke is portrayed as an old, confused and befuddled pol who is out of touch with her district because she owns and sometimes sleeps at her Brentwood home. Mind you, she does own a condominium in her district and at 74 years old will not be running for re-election next year.
So, Flap asks again?
What is the point? There has to be more to the story.
Do you want to embarass the Supervisor for some slight to the Los Angeles Times media empire? Or is it, after more than 30 years of public service, Yvonne Burke, the first African American Woman elected to the U.S. Congress from California (1972) has suddenly become a true sell-out because she lives part of her life in Brentwood.
Ridiculous……..
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors
