Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Mirthala Salinas Transferred to Riverside
City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa is interviewed by reporter Mirthala Salinas of Telemundo at Factor’s Famous Deli on May 19, 2005 in Los Angeles
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s girlfriend, suspended Telemundo Channel 52 reporter and news anchor will PERHAPS be returning to work next week but NOT in Los Angeles.Mayor’s girlfriend being transferred to Riverside
Newscaster Mirthala Salinas, who was suspended without pay for two months in August after her affair with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa became public, is scheduled to return to work next Monday. But she won’t be taking up her old job as a fill-in anchor on the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts for Telemundo KVEA Channel 52, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Instead, Salinas will be sent to the station’s Inland Empire bureau in Riverside as a reporter, sources said, a notable fall for a one-time rising star who has become one of the most recognizable faces in local Spanish-language news.
Which is what a reputable and ethical news organization would have done many months ago – transfer her to a venue where there would be NO conflict of interest.
Mirthala’s contract expires with NBC Telemundo in December and there have been rumors that she may resign and not report to the Inland Empire assignment.
There have also been rumors that her contract will not be renewed in any case.
Anybody out there stalking Getty House? Is she living with the Mayor? Or is the Mayor living with her in the Valley at her Los Angeles lobbyist sponsored condo?
It is reasonable to believe that Mirthala will stay home and play first lady of Los Angeles – after the Mayor’s nasty divorce is over in a few months.
Stay tuned……….
Villaraigosa and Salinas wait out a pause in filming on the north steps of the state Capitol. Salinas is now a news anchor on Telemundo 52, June 19, 2006 (now on leave).

Iran Watch: Ahmadinejad – We Don’t Have Homosexuals
Iran’s president: ‘We don’t have homosexuals’
Columbia University President Lee Bollinger excoriated Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday, going through a long list of documented actions and remarks by the firebrand Iranian leader and his government.
“Mr. President, you exhibit all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator,” Bollinger said to applause from many of the 600 people in the room for a speech from the Iranian leader. …
Asked about widely documented government abuse of women and homosexuals in his country, Ahmadinejad said, “We don’t have homosexuals” in Iran. “I don’t know who told you we had it,” he said.
Sharia Law says NO homosexuality and Mahmoud is the grand enforcer of Sharia Law in Iran – hence the denial.

From Gay Republic News: Interview with Iranian Gay Couple.
Q: What is the problem of an Iranian homosexual?Kaveh: The first is that we cannot discuss any of our problems. We have a problem with the government due to our sexual orientation; the Islamic government does not accept us and we are condemned to hanging and stoning. In comparison the rest of the problems are minor.
Mere Rhetoric has graphic photos of how the Islamic regime treats homosexuals.
Now, does anyone understand why this Islamic terrorist dictator should NOT have been invited to spread his BS at Columbia University?

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy on Ahmadinejad at Columbia University

Rudy Giuliani on Iran President Ahmadinejad’s appearance today at Columbia University:
SEAN HANNITY: “You had as Mayor of New York a number of confrontations with some of these leaders and now we have this controversy at Columbia today with Mahmud Ahmadinejad and the invitation by Columbia. Your thoughts?â€
MAYOR GIULIANI: “My thoughts are he should never have been invited in the first place. I think this is a distinguished lecture series, what it suggests is you make a selection right? But thousands of people conceivably would want to speak at Columbia, they only pick a certain number, and it would seem to me you don’t pick somebody who is the biggest—the head of the government that’s the biggest sponsor of state terrorism in the world, a government that is by every indication that we have presently engaged in activities that are resulting in the death of American troops., someone who has threatened the existence of the state of Israel, denied the Holocaust. I heard some of his answers on the Holocaust, of course they were absurd. The idea that it needs further research. I think the fact of the Holocaust has been pretty darn well established, doesn’t need further research. This is just part of his constant refrain of anti-Semitism, threats on Israel, threats on the United States. … Doing this, giving him this kind of status–even though the President of Columbia introduced him with an insult, he just responded with an insult–I believe this may underscore some of their fantasies that they really do have a world stage and that they really should be taken seriously and maybe they can fool us and maybe they can fool a certain number of us. So I think this is a damaging thing doing something like this with someone as deranged as Ahmadinejad is. You have no idea what you’re playing with here. So why would you invite him to a distinguished lecture series?â€
HANNITY: “While Bollinger in his introduction said his views were ridiculous, the Holocaust is not an issue in dispute, that his arguments were absurd.â€
GIULIANI: “But then he turned the podium over to him.â€
HANNITY: “Well then he turned the podium over to him and I’ll tell you what was more frightening to me, immediately thereafter, here was Ahmadinejad basically saying he found the introduction insulting but more importantly I want you to listen to the students’ reactions and clapping for Ahmadinejad in the background. … Does that student reaction frighten you as much as it does me?â€
GIULIANI: “Well here’s—this is really to my point, Sean. It frightens me because I don’t know what kind of reaction Ahmadinejad has to that, which means he comes away from this thinking, hey there’s a strong level of support for me in the United States of America, maybe I can push these people a little further, maybe I can take advantage of them a little bit more. That’s why I say in spite of the fact that the president of Columbia introduced him with an insult, he turned the podium over to him and he comes away from it. Ahmadinejad comes away from it saying, ‘Sure there are people there that don’t like me and opposed me and booed me, but hey, there were an awful lot of people there that applauded for me too. So I have some support there.’ And who knows what that results in when you’re dealing—look we have to come to the conclusion that Ahmadinejad is an irrational man. You don’t say the things he says if you’re working on, kind of a rational script. The denial of the Holocaust, the threat of—against Israel, the ways in which he gives five different versions of every single answer. This is a man who’s living in this fantasy world of jihad and world domination by Islamic extremism.â€
HANNITY: “And providing the weaponry to kill American troops.â€
GIULIANI: “And providing weaponry right now, right as we’re speaking possibly taking the lives of American troops. And we hand him a podium at Columbia University. And have no idea of what impact that can have on him? And the idea that it’s in the name of free speech, well that isn’t correct. Not everybody gets to speak at Columbia. …â€

Arnold Care Vs. Hillary Care 2.0: Arnold Care Covers Illegal Aliens
Senator Clinton’s announcement that her “universal” health care plan will not cover illegal aliens puts her at odds with Governor Schwarzenegger of California on that issue, as well as some of her most prominent backers in the Hispanic community.
“Illegal immigrants would not be covered,” Mrs. Clinton, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, said yesterday on ABC’s “This Week” program. “I will continue to have a safety net, which I think is in the best traditions of our country and, also, for public health reasons, absolutely necessary. But we did not cover them in ’93–’94, and my plan does not cover them now.”
This is WHY California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s plan will fail at either the polls or via a later referendum. California voters do not KNOW that they will be asked to vote themselves a hefty tax increase to fund more health care for illegal aliens.
And, why Hillary Care 2.0 is ill-conceived and nothing but a PANDER.

Mitt Romney Watch: He Gets It?
Presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney hosts an ‘Ask Mitt Anything’ town hall at Chapman University Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, in Orange, Calif.
Romney Tries to Show Voters He ‘Gets It’
Mitt Romney: Opportunistic flip-flopper? Or the rare Republican who “gets it” at a time when his party is losing favor with the general public?
In the battle to define his presidential candidacy, the former Massachusetts governor is trying to swat away charges that he has changed positions on hot-button issues such as abortion, immigration, gun ownership and gay rights to appeal to his party’s conservative base.
Yet, even as he tries to distance himself from his moderate record, Mr. Romney also embraces it to reach voters in the middle — both Republicans uncomfortable with the direction of the party and independent voters he would need in a general election.
Mitt “GETS IT.”
He will do anything and say anything to get himself elected President.
Like Hillary Clinton, Romney is NOT someone Flap would choose as his next President.

Hillary Clinton Watch: Cannot Pledge Iraq Troop Withdrawal
Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D-NY) speaks during a candidates’ debate on health care and financial security issues in Davenport, Iowa, September 20, 2007. President George W. Bush believes Democrat Hillary Clinton will win her party’s presidential nomination but that the Republican nominee will beat her in the November 2008 election, a new book said.
Sen. Clinton Can’t Pledge Troop Withdrawal
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said this morning that she will not make any pledges regarding a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq.
“We don’t know what we’re going to inherit,” she said on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “None of us do. We don’t know what’s going to be done in the last 15 months of the Bush-Cheney administration.”
But Clinton reiterated her desire for an immediate troop withdrawal.
“I hope it happens in the next 15 months — but if it doesn’t, it will happen immediately upon my becoming president,” she said.
The senator called for limited missions to remain in place but declined to estimate remaining troop levels.
“Clearly, withdrawing is dangerous,” she said. “It has to be done responsibly, prudently, carefully, but we have said that there will be a likely continuing mission against al Qaeda in Iraq. … So I think that there are some limited missions, but the numbers we’re talking about are very much smaller than what we have there, and … the missions would be better defined.”
In other words, Hillary will do and say whatever is politically expedient – just like her husband, Bill.
This may play today but will NOT in the general election debates.
Stay tuned……

Iran Watch:The Ahmadinejad Show
The above image was originally posted last October. It’s an optical illusion called an “inversion.” If you look at the upside-down version just below, you will see a caricature of Iranian President Ahmadinejad. For more about the image and why came to be, see the original post. I’m reposting it because, with Ahmadinejad speaking at Columbia University, comparisons of Ahmadinejad to Hitler are making the news.
Ahmadinejad Arrives for New York Visit
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, facing protests and tabloid headlines calling him “evil” and a “madman,” stirred debate Monday about free speech ahead of his appearance at Columbia University.
Columbia President Lee Bollinger has promised to grill Ahmadinejad on subjects such as human rights, the Holocaust and Iran’s disputed nuclear program. The Iranian leader previously has called the Holocaust “a myth” and called for Israel to be “wiped off the map.”
Bollinger said Monday it was a question of free speech and academic freedom.
“It’s extremely important to know who the leaders are of countries that are your adversaries. To watch them to see how they think, to see how they reason or do not reason. To see whether they’re fanatical, or to see whether they are sly,” he told ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Ahmadinejad is to speak and answer questions at a Columbia forum Monday, followed by a scheduled address to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday.
Flap will love the questions from the students and academics. But, will Ahmadinejad allow them?
Ahmadinejad loves to play the Western Media cycle from afar but will he be able to withstand scrutiny of an open forum?
Stay tuned as his appearance at Columbia University begins at 1:30 PM EDT.
Charles Johnson has a list of the various protests here.
