Michael Ramirez on the Turkey Armenian Genocide Flap
Murtha: Armenian Genocide Vote to Fail
Rep. John Murtha, a prominent Democrat, said Wednesday that his party’s leadership underestimated opposition to a resolution on Armenian genocide and predicted that such a vote would easily fail.
Murtha’s comments came as President Bush urged Congress not to infuriate Turkey, considered a key U.S. and NATO ally that has facilitated the flow of critical cargo to American troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The House proposal, which would label as genocide the killing of Armenians a century ago by Ottoman Turks, has inflamed U.S. tensions with Turkey, which says the death toll has been inflated and was the result of civil unrest. Support for the nonbinding resolution deteriorated this week after Turkey recalled its U.S. ambassador to Ankara and congressional opponents including Murtha, D-Pa., warned their colleagues that it would cripple U.S. relations with Turkey.
During the Clinton Administration, President Clinton asked the GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert to not bring up this resolution in the name of national security. President Bush asked the same of Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Pelosi would not accomodate the President and has brought up this resolution that will now likely fail.
Is there any wonder why the Congress under her Democrat leadership is languishing in the polls? And alienating allies.

Cynthia McKinney Watch: McKinney for President?
Former Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D), who lost her congressional seat last year after her publicized scuffle with a Capitol Hill police officer, registered to vote in California — and is being pushed by some to run for president as a Green Party candidate, the AP reports. Despite McKinney posting a letter on her Web site last month, saying she is not interested in the Green Party nomination, a group called “Run! Cynthia! Run!” is trying to draft her as a candidate in California. McKinney and six other Green Party candidates, including Ralph Nader were nominated by the Green Party Convention in September, and McKinney has yet to remove her name from the ballot.
Only in Marin County, California.
But, should McKinney decide to tun she will be reunited with her old buddy Cindy Sheehan who is running against House Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi in another Northern California Congressional District.
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, right, gathers with Cindy Sheehan Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at her campaign headquarters in DeKalb, Ga.

Presidential Primary Election Calendar Begins to Finalize Part Two
Graphic Courtesy of the Politico
The Presidential Primary calendar is becoming quite convoluted.
Believe it or not, we’re inside of 80 days and the candidates still don’t know when all of the January (or even December) election days are going to be. Last night, this is what we learned:
— Iowa Republicans will hold their caucuses Jan. 3
— South Carolina Democrats will hold their primary Jan. 26
— Nevada Democrats will hold their caucuses Jan. 19.Here’s what we don’t know:
— will the Iowa Democrats join the Iowa Republicans on Jan. 3?
— will the New Hampshire primary accept being on Jan. 8, or somehow jump into December and risk some candidates skipping the contest?
— will the two parties have two different January calendars? As it stands now, Republicans could start on Jan. 3 in Iowa, head to Wyoming for a Jan. 5 caucus, travel to New Hampshire for the Jan. 8 primary, then participate in a Jan. 15 Michigan primary, a Jan. 19 South Carolina primary and end in Florida on Jan. 29. The Democrats are ONLY committed to participating in contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, with Iowa and South Carolina on different January days from the Republicans.
— If Iowa Democrats are convinced that by going the 14th, they’ll preserve their first-in-the-nation status for 2012 and 2016, they’ll do, mark our words on this one.Who are the winners and who are the losers?
Soren asks some questions but until New Hampshire and the other states make a decision everything is fluid.
There is NO doubt in Flap’s mind that the national parties will decide on either a national primary date or regional dates for the next Presidential election cycle.
Stay tuned……..

Texas Governor Rick Perry Endorses Rudy Giuliani for President

Texas governor Rick Perry endorses Giuliani
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday won the endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, despite their differences on abortion rights.
Perry, an abortion opponent, said his biggest concern had been Giuliani’s support for abortion rights but that he was satisfied Giuliani would appoint judges who view the issue conservatively.
“The one (issue) that I wanted to hear him give me an answer and look me right in my eyes was that issue of who can I expect, what type of individual can I expect on the Supreme Court,” Perry said at a news conference with Giuliani.
“He clearly said … you can look for people like Scalia and Roberts and Alito. Let me tell you, I can live with that,” Perry said, referring to conservative Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts.
Perry said when he buys a pickup truck, he doesn’t rule it out simply because it has one option he doesn’t like.
Giuliani, who is addressing social conservative voters this weekend in Washington, said he wants conservatives to focus on areas where he agrees with them.
“I’m not going to get every vote,” he said. “The idea is going to be that there’s enough we agree about and enough we’re facing — foreign threats and domestic problems — that it may just be if they think about it, that I’m the best candidate.”
“What I really want is a relationship in which we respect each other, even if we disagree,” Giuliani said.
An important endorsement for the Mayor from a social conservative Governor in a very red state.
Perry has drawn the conclusion that the Mayor is not a one issue candidate and nor should the GOP nominee be.
Will California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who agrees with Rudy on abortion be the next endorser?
