Mitt Romney Watch: “Sanctuary Mansion” Landscapers Fired by Romney
Ricardo Saenz, owner of the company that employed illegal immigrants, worked on Mitt Romney’s lawn recently.
Mitt Romney who was CALLED OUT by Rudy Giuliani for having ILLEGAL ALIENS work on his Massachusetts mansion’s lawn has today finally fired the landscaping company.
Standing on stage at a Republican debate on the Gulf Coast of Florida last week, Mitt Romney repeatedly lashed out at rival Rudy Giuliani for providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants in New York City.
Yet, the very next morning, on Thursday, at least two illegal immigrants stepped out of a hulking maroon pickup truck in the driveway of Romney’s Belmont house, then proceeded to spend several hours raking leaves, clearing debris from Romney’s tennis court, and loading the refuse back on to the truck.
In fact, their work was part of a regular pattern. Despite a Globe story in Dec. 2006 that highlighted Romney’s use of illegal immigrants to tend to his lawn, Romney continued to employ the same landscaping company – until today. The landscaping company, in turn, continued to employ illegal immigrants.
Romney when confronted today in New Hampshire by Boston Globe reporters who asked him about the continued work by illegal aliens on his mansion lawn said:
“After this same issue arose last year, I gave the company a second chance with very specific conditions,” Romney said in the statement. “They were instructed to make sure people working for the company were of legal status. We personally met with the company in order to inform them about the importance of this matter. The owner of the company guaranteed us, in very certain terms, that the company would be in total compliance with the law going forward.
“The company’s failure to comply with the law is disappointing and inexcusable, and I believe it is important I take this action,” Romney said.
Romney then terminated the company, Community Lawn Service of Chelsea, Massachusetts.
Romney wrote a letter of termination to the landscaping company’s owner, Ricardo Saenz.
“Today I learned that employees of your company, who were assigned to work on my property, are not permitted to work in the United States. Given your company’s disregard for the clear instructions provided on this issue last year, I am forced to terminate my contract with your company, effective immediate,” he wrote.
Flap has been writing for OVER a year of how HYPOCRITCAL Romney has been on the issue of illegal aliens and illegal immigration. Dang, didn’t he know who was mowing his lawn after last December’s flap?
And, Romney has the AUDACITY to attack Rudy Giuiiani and Mike Huckabee on these issues?
Yet, Mitt throws the poor illegal landscapers “under the bus” just like faux-trooper Jay Garrity and Judge Tuttman because:
Mitt Romney WILL Say and Do Anything to trash his opponents and get himself elected. Is this who American voters want as their next President?
Flap says no!
Update:
As usual, Romney hagiographer, Hugh Hewitt, makes excuses for Mitt.
Update #2:
Andrew Sullivan has it about RIGHT – LOL……RATTLED.

Norman Hsu Watch: INDICTED on 15 Counts
Norman Hsu, 56, is escorted into a Redwood City, Calif., courtorom, Friday, Sept. 21, 2007. Hsu on Tuesday was charged with fraud and campaign finance violations in a case that prompted Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton to return hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions.
Flap told you that this sotry would rear its UGLY HEAD when Hillary Clinton was in the thick of Presidential politics.
Today, Norman Hsu was indicted by a federal Grand Jury and was accused of cheating investors of at least $60 million and using some of the money to to make illegal donations to political campaigns. In the 15-count indictment returned in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, the government accused the 56-year-old clothing-industry entrepreneur of duping investors nationwide with a massive Ponzi scheme. The government said Hsu also violated federal campaign finance laws by making contributions to various political candidates in the names of others.
The indictment charges Hsu, 56, with six counts of mail fraud, six counts of wire fraud and three counts of violating the Federal Election Campaign Act, which limits individual campaign contributions.
If convicted, Hsu could face 20 years in prison on each fraud charge and five years on each campaign finance charge, as well as fines, U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said.
Will this indictment affect the Hillary Clinton Presidential campaign?
Probably not – she returned the money. But every time it is mentioned in the press it reminds voters of the sleazy conduct of her husband and former President Bill (remember Charlie Trie).
Norman Hsu and Senator Hillary Clinton
Although there my be a plea deal in the state of California, these “new” federal charges will, if Hsu is convicted, likely send him to prison for many years – unless he gives up something to federal prosecutors in return for a federal plea deal.
Might Hillary and other Democrat politicians have cause to be worried?
Perhaps
There are other legs to the Chinese connection for the Clintons to be concerned:
- Since former President Bill Clinton has not released the list of donors to his Presidential Library, might Hsu and his Chinese minions somehow be linked to donations there?
- And, if there is a growing federal criminal investigation into the New York City Chinese immigrant donations to Hillary’s campaign, there will be plenty of stories for her campaign to deflect.
Stay tuned……

Mike Huckabee Watch: Surge in Polls Brings Scrutiny and Attacks

It WAS inevitable and did not take long for a discussion of Mike Huckabee’s record as Arkansas Governor and an ANONYMOUS attack to surface like this flier that was slipped under the door of reporters in Iowa overnight:
By the way, anyone associated with GOP politics or has attended a GOP convention is well acquainted with the flier under the door over night.
Is this a dirty trick?
More like standard operating procedure in GOP primary politics.
Stay tuned……

Mike Huckabee Watch: Opposes GITMO and Waterboarding

Mike Huckabee today at Pastors and Pews Conference in Des Moines, Iowa
As Mike Huckabee booms into the first tier, scrutiny of his stand on the issues begins.
After the Iowa poll showed that Republican voters like him but found him much less “presidential” and “electable” than Romney, Huckabee sought to build his foreign policy credentials, meeting with a group of retired generals who are in Des Moines to urge the 2008 candidates to commit to opposing torture. After the meeting, Huckabee joined Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in declaring his opposition to the interrogation procedure known as “waterboarding,” and said he would support closing the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a contrast with the other leading Republicans.
These positions are in stark contrast to Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and most conservatives.
Watch for contrast mail and television on these issues including illegal alien children tuition breaks.
Flap would NEVER support the closing of Gitmo and believes that “Waterboarding” and other interrogation techniques should be reserved to the discretion of the President in time of extreme necessity.
Stay tuned…..
Update:
Mike Huckabee responds at his blog:
The men and women of our Armed Forces have served and acted honorably in their duties at Guantanamo Bay and we greatly appreciate their service in keeping our nation free, safe and secure.
I have visited Guantanamo Bay and know that the detainees are more than adequately cared for.
My concern is that the facility has become a distraction from our Global War on Terror. Other facilities, like Fort Leavenworth, can serve the same purpose without the controversy.
As for specific procedures concerning detainee adjudication, like all Americans, I await the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Boumediene case, which will determine if detainees have habeas corpus rights.
As President, my overriding concern in dealing with the suspected terrorists will always be our national security interests. As I stated in June, my first priority will be the protection of the American people and ensuring that all suspected terrorists remain in our custody.
Distraction? What are you talking about?
Uhhhhhhh NO WAY……And, sir what would you do with the detainees? Move them to SuperMax? or California? Or worse, let them be deported back to their home countries so they can plot again?

Mike Huckabee Watch: Huckabee Tied with Giuliani for GOP National Poll Lead in Latest Rasmussen National GOP Poll
Huckaboom is right.
Mike Huckabee is now TIED with Rudy Giuliani in Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential tracking poll:
- Mike Huckabee – 18%
- Rudy Giuliani – 18%
- John McCain – 14%
- Fred Thompson – 13%
- Mitt Romney – 12%
- Ron Paul – 7%
Results for the Presidential Tracking Poll are obtained through nightly telephone interviews and reported on a four-day rolling average basis. Next update scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Eastern.
So, what has happened in the GOP Presidential race?
- Rudy Giuliani’s collapse?
- Mike Huckabee’s Boom?
- John McCain’s Comeback?
- All of the above?
Last week was a poor one for Mayor Giuliani. The re-emergence of personal ethical lapses reminded GOP voters of potential character challenges in the general election. Rudy also performed poorly at the CNN You Tube debate where he engaged Mitt Romney in mutually assured destruction type negative personal attacks (Illegal aliens mowing Romney’s mansion lawn).
Whereas, Mike Huckabee was personally engaging at the You Tube debate and his comment about Jesus running for public office is destined to be a classic. He was personally engaging as Mitt Romney and Rudy were nasty to each other. John McCain looked Presidential but old and Fred Thompson looked worn out and disengaged.
Mike Huckabee is leading in the Iowa polls and is surging in New Hampshire. However, he has no major campaign operation in any states except Iowa (and Iowa IS debatable). He is dramatically underfunded as compared to Rudy and Romney. Thompson has more campaign cash than Huckabee but will not contend in Iowa or New Hampshire. McCain is out of money and is only contending in New Hampshire.
So, what will happen?
The race is very fluid and events in the next week could change candidate’s prospects.
Mitt Romney delivers his “Mormon Faith” speech tomorrow. If the speech disappoints it could sink his campaign. Would his supporters gravitate to Huckabee or Thompson or even McCain should he lose Iowa and New Hampshire?
If additional personal revelations come out about Rudy, would this drive voters to McCain, Thompson or even Huckabee?
Or, will the race plod along with a protracted state by state and delegate by GOP convention delegate fight through April 2008? Who would have the campaign cash to do this?
Stay tuned…….

Day By Day by Chris Muir December 4, 2007
Clinton’s campaign sent an e-mail Sunday harking back to Obama’s kindergarten and third-grade dreams of being president. The e-mail came after Obama said that, unlike some people, he hadn’t been planning to run for president his whole life. “Sen. Obama rewrites history,” read Clinton’s headline.
The Money Quote:
“It’s the silly season,” Obama said. “I understand she’s been quoting my kindergarten teacher in Indonesia.”
Will the negative attacks by Hillary on Obama backfire like her flip-flop on illegal alien driver’s licenses?
